He told Lottery officials that he was shocked when he found out he was a winner, and doesn’t plan to share the news with anyone other than his parents. He said he hasn’t decided yet what he will do with his winnings, other than to save the money for now.

(DOVER, Del.) — True to the name of the game, Win Big!, a 69-year-old retiree from Selbyville, Delaware, who wished to remain anonymous, won $50,000 in the Delaware Lottery Instant Game on Saturday, Dec. 23. The woman’s son bought a variety of Lottery tickets at the Super G in Millville for her Christmas present.
After her son dropped the tickets off at her home, two of her eight children were there to witness when she scratched them off and revealed the winning $10 ticket. The woman claimed she remained calm, but her son who bought the ticket could not control himself. “[He was] jumping around and was super excited,” she said.
The winner said she’s been playing a lot of $1 scratch-off Lottery games for about a year, but this was her first big win. With her winnings, she plans to visit relatives in Texas and fix up her house. She says she will still only buy $1 scratch-off tickets in the future.
The winner claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

The woman, single and retired, has played the Lottery on and off over the years because “You never know when you are going to win.” She was with her niece at home when she scratched the ticket.
“We were both so shocked that it was a winning ticket,” the winner said.

Cannon told Lottery officials that she likes to play for the entertainment, the excitement and the chance at winning big money. In addition to Instant Games, she also plays the POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® when the jackpots are high.
“I have a 1-year-old son and can’t wait to make this Christmas extra special for him,” Cannon said. “I’m already planning to decorate his room and purchase a nice recliner.”

(DOVER, Del.) — A 37-year-old welder from New Castle, Delaware, had several winning tickets on a recent lucky Wednesday at Bedford’s Pleasantville Country Maid in New Castle. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased three scratch-off winners—one for $100, another for $25 and the third for a whopping $250,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game.
The man said that he regularly stops at the store on Wednesdays and Thursdays to buy several tickets for different scratch-off games. On Nov. 8, he first purchased a ticket that made him an instant $100 winner. He used some of that money to buy two more tickets on the roll for the $250,000 Cash game. When he got home, he then scratched off a $25 winner. Much to his surprise, the last winning ticket had four more zeros attached to it.
“As I peeled off one zero after another, I got increasingly excited,” the man said. “When I got to the 2 of 250,000, I freaked out and went bonkers!”
A 20-year veteran of playing the Lottery, the winner said his largest win previously was $500. He plans to buy a truck for his business, put a new roof on his mother’s house and save the rest in the bank. Only his family and best friend know the good news so far. He claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The young bachelor said he purchases Delaware Lottery Instant Games and/or POWERBALL® tickets about four times a week.
“I’ve only been playing the Lottery for about a year, so I didn’t expect to win such a large amount so soon,” exclaimed the winner, who works as a retail clerk. “I took my ticket home to scratch it off. When it revealed I had won $15,000, I was happy—very, very happy!”
The man immediately shared the news with his uncle, who drove him to Delaware Lottery Headquarters to claim his prize on Nov. 9, 2017.
“I’m very happy, too,” the winner’s uncle said. “My nephew deserves to be happy and have some money to spend on himself.”
The winner said he has no concrete plans yet for how to spend the money, but said he knew he’d spend it responsibly.

(DOVER, Del.) — A typical Sunday for a 40-year-old warehouse worker from Atlantic City, New Jersey, includes watching and playing football. To make the game more interesting, he played the Delaware Lottery’s Sports Lottery $100,000 Parlay Card, which involves testing his football knowledge to try and pick all 15 games correctly.
“I looked at my card about 100 times and knew that I only needed one more win, and it all came down to the Monday night game,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “I had to stay up and watch the whole game because the adrenaline was hitting me. Needless to say, it was worth it to be a little tired at work on Tuesday after winning $50,000!”
The winner plays Sports Lottery every week, usually getting in on the teasers, but recently has been playing the $100,000 Parlay Card. He told Lottery officials that his friends told him he would never hit all 15 games. Well, that only motivated him to prove his friends wrong.
“I said a prayer asking to be the winner,” the man said. “Then it happened. It’s so crazy that I won—I’m truly in a state of awe.”
The man purchased the winning parlay card from Delaware Park in Wilmington. Since there were two winning tickets in Week 8, the $100,000 prize was divided, and each player was awarded $50,000.
The man is planning to save some of his prize money, but knows for sure that he wants to take his wife on a tropical vacation this winter. His wife took him on a trip for his birthday, he said, so now it’s his turn to return the favor.

(DOVER, Del.) — For the past seven years, a group of 13 co-workers known as “The Club” have been playing POWERBALL® twice a week with the hope of hitting the jackpot. After winning small prizes over the years, the group hit big last Saturday, winning $50,000 by matching four of the five white-ball numbers plus the POWERBALL® in the Aug. 19 drawing. One woman representing the group of winners claimed their prize from Lottery officials on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The group purchased 13 tickets—including the winning ticket—from Airport News & Tobacco in New Castle, Delaware.
“It didn’t take long for the good news to travel around the office,” said the single 52-year-old administrator. “I was in the middle of a conversation when one of the club members interrupted to ask for help checking numbers. Once we realized we were winners, everyone who normally doesn’t get in the game was quick to give money for this Wednesday’s drawing.”
The winners, who all wish to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that “The Club” has stood the test of time. Even as co-workers retire or move on to a new job, the original 13 players always get in on the game each week.
“It’s a game that we are going to keep playing and trying our luck,” said the woman. “It’s crazy that we were only off by one number to win the jackpot! The Club is so excited, and hopefully our group will keep growing.”
In the past, the group has won smaller prizes, which they’ve reinvested into the next game.
“We are planning to distribute the winnings between the 13 people,” said the woman. “People are already planning how they are going to use their winnings, from paying off credit cards to sharing with family and even putting toward an upcoming rehearsal dinner.”
The winning numbers from the Aug. 19 drawing were 17, 19, 39, 43 and 68. The POWERBALL® number was 13, and the Power Play number was 4x.

(DOVER, Del.) — Rusty Rivas, a 35-year-old driver from Dover, Delaware, had an unusual Labor Day weekend. On Sunday she was at home with her husband, where she scratched her Lottery Instant Game tickets—not expecting to see three zeros appear on the ticket. Rivas, who started playing the Lottery about eight months ago, when her husband got her into the games, told Lottery officials that she likes to play because she is “always looking for that winner.” Now she can say that she found $15,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s 7 Spot.
“I saw the number 5, and then I saw the comma,” said Rivas, who has two children. “We couldn’t believe it to be true. I immediately signed the back of the ticket and put it away until I was able to go to Lottery Headquarters.”
Rivas regularly plays KENO®, POWERBALL®, MEGA MILLIONS® and Instant Games. When she wins, she usually puts the prize money toward new tickets for a chance of a bigger payout. The $15,000 is her largest win to date.
“I’m not sure what we’ll do with the winnings,” Rivas said, who purchased the winning ticket from Shore Stop #234 near Briar Park in Camden. “I have to talk to my husband about our plans, but right now we are enjoying this time since it’s all very new and exciting.”

(DOVER, Del.) — A 34-year-old woman from Dover, Delaware, was enjoying a typical Sunday with her husband and two children when the unexpected happened. After church and attending to chores around the house, the woman and her husband stopped by Shore Stop #248 in North Dover to pick up Lottery tickets; they found themselves in the same store three different times—because she kept winning.
“I won on three different tickets!” said the woman, who works in production and wished to remain anonymous. “We kept going back into the store after we scratched the ticket in the car, to see if we could keep the streak going. I thought we should play one more time to see what happened, and what do you know—third time’s the charm!”
Her husband returned to the car to let her scratch the winning ticket.
“I thought, here we go again,” the woman recalled. “I started shaking once I saw the zero … and another zero!”
The couple returned to the store one final time so that the woman could confirm the ticket a winner with the self-ticket checker. The ticket proved to be worth $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game. The woman told Lottery officials that she likes to play Lottery games for amusement and the chance to win. This is her largest win to date.

(DOVER, Del.) — A 58-year-old Delaware native who resides in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is $10,000 wealthier after winning in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that her husband purchased the lucky ticket from Brookside Package Company in Newark. It was the only Lottery ticket he purchased that day.
The couple regularly plays POWERBALL®, MEGA MILLIONS®, KENO® and, occasionally, Instant Games. “When my husband called and told me that we’d won, I was like, ‘Are you kidding?’” exclaimed the woman, who works as a bookkeeper. “I’m still shocked!”
The couple has been playing for “the fun of it” for many years, but this is their largest win to date. When asked what they will do with their prize money, the woman said that “a million” ideas ran through her mind.
“I don’t have any plans for the money right now, but I’m going to put it in the bank until we decide on how we want to use it,” she added.
While the couple is thrilled about their prize, the woman said that it will not change their lives. She claimed the prize at Lottery Headquarters on Thursday, Aug. 31.

(DOVER, Del.) — A longtime Delaware Lottery player had his loyalty rewarded after winning $40,000 in the Power 7’s Instant Game. Since the 60-year-old business owner from Elkton, Maryland, had an extra $50 in his pocket when he was at the New Castle Gulf, he decided to purchase five $10 tickets. To his surprise, he took home a top prize.
“I immediately took a picture of the ticket and sent it to my wife,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. At first, his wife thought it was someone else’s ticket. The man told her, “It’s real—it’s $40,000!”
The winner, who has eight children and 10 grandchildren, is already planning a fun way to bring his family together with the prize money.
“Two years ago, my wife won a large amount playing the Lottery, so we took a vacation to Bald Head Island in North Carolina,” the winner said. “I think we are planning to use this money for a kitchen renovation, but we may have to use some of the winnings for another vacation down there with everyone!”
The man said he regularly plays POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®, and occasionally Instant Games. He told Lottery officials that he will continue to play because he likes the fun of scratching tickets and the thrill of the game.

(DOVER, Del.) — A 58-year-old retired woman from Hartly, Delaware, recently won $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 20X Lucky Instant Game. The woman, who has been married for 21 years, and has two children and two grandchildren, has worked out a system with her husband where he purchases her tickets and she gets to do the fun activity of scratching them. The winner’s husband purchased the winning ticket from Nik’s Corner Store at Pearson’s Corner in Dover.
“Scratch-offs are my go-to out of all the Lottery games, and sometimes when I’m feeling optimistic I get in on the draw games too,” said the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous. “At first my husband thought I only won $5 or $50—since he has bad eyes—but then we realized the prize was much larger.”
The woman told Lottery officials that she was home making her husband’s favorite lunch when he came home with the tickets.
“I told my husband that this plate of jambalya will cost you,” the winner said, jokingly. “We both thought this was unbelievable, and we are excited to put the money in our savings for a rainy day.”
The winner claimed her prize at Lottery Headquarters Monday, Aug. 21.
Now on a roll, the winner said, “We are definitely going to keep playing!”

(DOVER, Del.) — Good fortune came to a 74-year-old retired Dover woman last Sunday when she scratched her way to a top prize of $50,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 50X Lucky Instant Game. The woman, who says she likes to play the Lottery on occasion, purchased the winning ticket from Royal Farms on Lebanon Road in Dover to try out her luck.
“I was in the store with my friend, who was saying that he wasn’t having any luck with the games and suggested that maybe I try to play,” said the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I have never won anything in my life, and couldn’t believe it when I found out that I was a winner!”
The winner says she plans to keep playing in the future, and she may bring along her friend—and good-luck charm—again.
“I usually play during the Christmas season, and enjoy giving tickets as gifts,” the winner said. “Can you imagine giving a winning ticket as a gift?”
The woman says she plans to use her prize money to pay bills. She claimed her $50,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Monday, Aug. 21.

(DOVER, Del.) — Just a few days before his 48th birthday, a lucky banker from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, won $25,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s $5 Instant Game 25 Grand. The man purchased a strip of the final eight tickets in the pack from Shore Stop on McKennans Church Rd. in Wilmington, Delaware, and one turned out to be a big winner.
“I stopped at a gas station on my way home after traveling for work and decided to buy some tickets for my birthday,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “I have never won anything in my life. I had to keep looking at the ticket—it didn’t feel real.”
Even though he had just won a life-changing amount of money, the winner, who is married with three young children, said he remained calm.
“It was funny—I called my wife when she was hurrying out the door with our kids, and she was wondering why I was calling her because she thought I only won $100,” he said. “After I told her the full amount, she was completely silent.”
The winner was born and raised in Delaware but moved to Pennsylvania about five years ago. He has been playing the Lottery occasionally since he was 21 and always likes to buy tickets in a strip of eight because he thinks there is a better chance of winning.
Saving for his children’s college fund is a big priority for the winner, so he plans to put the prize money toward their 529 plans. “Even though my children are so young, I know they are all college-bound,” he added.
The winner claimed his $25,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Wednesday, August 9.

(DOVER, Del.) — For a 74-year-old Newark man, it only took one ticket to win $50,000 in the July 29 POWERBALL® drawing. The winner, who moved to Delaware in 1970, has been playing his birthday number, 12, for many years, and it paid off big time after he correctly matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the POWERBALL®. The winner told Lottery officials he typically chooses the Quick Pick option for the first five white-ball numbers and his birthday as the POWERBALL® number – and it turned out to be a winning combination. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the single winning ticket from Super G in Bear.
“I was at home and hopped on the Lottery website to check my numbers,” said the winner. “I had to look at the ticket a couple of times—I was that shaken up.”
The winner immediately called his wife to tell her about the win.
“He called me on the phone and I was like, ‘Huh?’” said his wife. “We weren’t sure of the amount, so we went back to the Super G to check the ticket. I thought the woman at the store was going to fall over the counter when she saw the prize amount!”
The couple claimed the prize at Lottery Headquarters on Monday, July 31.
This isn’t the first time the winner got lucky playing POWERBALL® —he previously won $5,000. He told Lottery officials that before the win, he was about to start a new job to help pay off some debts.
“I was semi-retired before, but now I can actually retire and relax,” he said. “I can quit worrying about money—and that’s a big relief.”
The winning numbers from the July 29 drawing were 01, 28, 40, 45 and 48. The POWERBALL® number was 12, and the Power Play number was 2x.

(Dover, Del.) — A retired woman from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is experiencing a “gold rush” after winning $100,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $20 Instant Game, Gold. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the lucky ticket from Stop & Shop in Dewey Beach. The woman told Lottery officials that she always goes to this particular Lottery Retailer with her friends in the morning to buy tickets—and now they have a reason to celebrate.
“When I scratched off the ticket, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said the woman. “I even asked the person working at Stop & Shop to double-check it. I was so excited that I hugged the person and my friends in the store.”
The woman frequently plays the Lottery, and this is her largest win to date. When asked what she will do with the prize money, the woman said she plans to put all of it toward bills.
“I look forward to being bill free,” said the woman, who claimed the last top prize of the Gold Instant Game ticket.
The winner claimed her $100,000 at Lottery Headquarters on Tuesday, July 18.

(Dover, Del.) — A 34-year-old rookie Lottery player from Dover, Delaware, won $50,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 50X Lucky Instant Game after buying a ticket for the first time. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the single winning ticket from Super 9 Liquors on North DuPont Highway in Dover, on Wednesday, July 12.
“This was my first time playing a scratch-off game,” said the winner, who works as a manager. “I was in the store, and just decided to get a ticket. When I found out I was a winner, I couldn’t believe it. I’m still in a daze.”
The man told Lottery officials that the money couldn’t have come at a better time. “My daughter just got accepted to college, and I’m going to buy her a new car to celebrate,” he said, noting that he plans to put the rest of the money in the bank.
Once the news set in, the man said he told his girlfriend about the win.
“My girlfriend was screaming and crying when I told her the about the money. She’s very happy for me since I’ve been through a rough patch the last few months.” The winner told Lottery officials that his mother recently passed away, and he thinks she had a part in his winning.
He later added, “I still think this is unbelievable. I am very blessed and happy.”

(Dover, Del.) — A 33-year-old truck driver got the maximum “mileage” out of a Delaware Lottery Play Money Instant Game ticket, winning the top prize of $50,000. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven on Red Mill Road in Newark.
The man was in the 7-Eleven with his wife when he discovered that he had a winning ticket. At first, he only revealed and scanned the barcode, not expecting to win anything big.
“I scanned the barcode, and it revealed I had won $50,000,” the man said. “My wife said the scanner must be broken, and I, too, thought there must be some kind of mistake.”
After the man scratched off the entire ticket—and scanned it several more times, in disbelief—the reality of the $50,000 win began to set in.
“We didn’t want to draw attention to ourselves—I guess we were as nervous as we were excited,” the winner said. “My wife whispered to me, ‘Hurry up and sign the ticket!’ So we asked the clerk for a pen as calmly as we could, and I signed it.”
The man, a relatively new Lottery player, says he prefers to play Instant Games, although he has also purchased POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® tickets on occasion. He is careful to play within his means, and typically only buys a few Instant Game tickets when he has some extra spending money.
“I don’t have a special system. I just pick whatever catches my eye,” the man said. “This is, by far, is the most I’ve ever won. It’s a wonderful blessing!”
The man claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Monday, July 10, and then humbly proceeded to go to work, as he does every Monday morning.
“I know the game is called Play Money, but we plan on doing just the opposite,” the winner added. “We haven’t told anyone, and don’t plan to. We’re putting this money in the bank and saving up for a home. We’re going on with our lives as usual, being smart with our winnings and being very grateful that we have this nice safety cushion in case of an emergency.”

(Dover, Del.) — An 80-year-old retiree and father of four from Camden, Delaware, recently experienced the big moment his daughters were hoping for when he discovered that he’d won the top prize of $15,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Extra Funds Instant Game. One of the man’s daughters purchased the winning ticket on July 1, 2017, at Redner’s Market in Camden.
“I was working in the yard when my daughter stopped by and insisted I come in and scratch off the two tickets she’d bought for me,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “I told her I won $15,000, and she immediately replied, ‘No, you didn’t.’ Then I showed her the ticket, and we both were very excited. It still didn’t seem real until just now, when I held the check in my hands at Delaware Lottery Headquarters.”
Several years ago, the winner’s daughters began buying Instant Game tickets daily for their father.
“My sister and I had won a substantial prize, which got my father interested in the Lottery,” said one of the man’s daughters. “So we decided to buy him at least one ticket every day until he experienced his own big win. Now that he’s had that experience, we’re going to keep up the daily tradition, because he has so much fun scratching off his tickets.”
The daughter added that her father especially likes games like Extra Funds because you have a second chance to win on the other side of the ticket. While they are always sure to play within their means, she adds, the entire family enjoys playing and “giving the gift” of the Delaware Lottery.
The winner served in the Air Force for 20 years, during which time he fought in Vietnam and traveled to many cities across the U.S. and around the world. When he claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on July 5, he told officials he didn’t plan to use his winnings to travel, like many people do.
“I’ve experienced a lot in my life, including many places that most people only dream of,” the man said. “So most of this money is going into the bank to be used for what is necessary and practical; however, I am going to splurge and get the house a new front door—after 30 years, it needs one!”

The man, who has played Lottery games for about seven years, purchased the winning ticket from Castle Tobacco & Convenience in New Castle.
“I didn’t think someone could win a prize of this amount,” said the man, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I wasn’t too shocked when I checked the ticket, but thought that it was good news.”
The winner told Lottery officials he also likes to play POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®. And, while he doesn’t have a method or process for buying tickets, he also tends to play when he’s feeling lucky.
The winner doesn’t have any plans for the prize money; however, he said that if he wins the top prize in the future, he’ll put that money toward paying off his house.
Before the man left, he added, “I have a smile on my face, and that’s all I needed.” This is his largest prize to date.

(Dover, Del.) — A 34-year-old woman from Smyrna, Delaware, experienced a rewarding lunch break on Monday, May 22. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, scratched her $25 Instant Game ticket while on lunch break and, to her surprise, won a top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game. The married woman purchased the winning ticket at Speedway on N. DuPont Highway in New Castle, Delaware.
“It was just like any other day when I scratched the ticket during my lunch break, until I realized I was a big winner” said the woman, who works in billing. “I called my husband repeatedly until he answered.”
The winner told Lottery officials that she previously won $5,000, but this is her largest win to date. She has been playing the Lottery on and off for about two years and doesn’t have a specific method or process for buying tickets.
“My husband didn’t believe me at first,” she said. “In addition to telling my husband, I shared the news with my parents, who were also very excited for me.”
The winner plans to use her prize money to pay off bills and, most importantly, spoil her children. While the money will provide a lot of relief, it’s not going to change her life drastically.

Lopez, who is married with three children, purchased her winning ticket from the 7-Eleven on West Market Street in Newport, Delaware.
“When I first scratched the ticket in the store, I didn’t think the ticket was a winner,” said Lopez, who works as a custodial employee at a local school. “I scanned it under the machine, and ‘Winner’ came up on the screen.”
Lopez told Lottery officials that the ticket was the last one in the pack, so she just decided to buy it—and it paid off. Once the news set in, Lopez called her mother to tell her the exciting story.
“My family is so happy for me,” said Lopez. “The prize money will make things a lot easier, especially since I need to purchase new carpet in my house and fix my car. Plus, I want to save some money for my kids.”
Lopez says she might buy another ticket in the future, but for right now she is walking on sunshine with her new prize money.

(Dover, Del.) — A 53-year-old man from Magnolia, Delaware, who considers himself a “jack-of-all-trades,” is excited to get started on a few home renovation projects after winning $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash. The Pennsylvania native purchased the winning ticket at Felton Goose Creek in Felton, Delaware.
“I was home alone when I scratched off the ticket,” said the winner, who is married with a son and a daughter. “I remember thinking that if I broke even with $25 it would be great—then I continued to scratch, and it said $10,000!” It was his largest win to date.
The winner told Lottery officials that in addition to his career in military flight stimulation, he also freelances as a photographer.
“I enjoy having a camera in my hand,” he said. “Delaware really has so much to offer and it gives me a chance to travel a lot all over the state. While I’m jumping from place to place, I like to stop at different Lottery Retailers to pick up tickets.”
The winner has played the Lottery more frequently over the past 10 years. He likes to play POWERBALL® and pick his own numbers; however, he concentrates a lot of his playing on the $25 and $20 Instant Game tickets because of the bigger prize.
“[Although] I couldn’t see my wife’s face through the phone, I just know she had tears in her eyes when I called her to tell her what happened,“ he said.
The couple has already been shopping for a patio door, which they’ve been planning to purchase for some time and will now use the prize money for that purchase. In addition, they plan to put some money aside to repave their driveway.
The winner added: “While we are not retiring anytime soon, this win is a blessing. It allows us to get some projects done around the house that I have been pushing off, and we are really grateful.”

(Dover, Del.) — George Niblett, a 61-year-old man born and raised in Millsboro, Delaware, learned an important lesson in reinvestment. Niblett went to his hometown store at Bodie’s Market in Millsboro on Saturday morning, May 6, to purchase a $10 Instant Game and his usual PLAY 3 and PLAY 4 day tickets. To George’s surprise, he won $50 on the Instant Game ticket. He reinvested the money into a $25 Instant Game ticket and left the Lottery Retailer winning $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, $250,000 Cash.
“The guys at the store tell me I’m pretty lucky,” said Niblett, who is married with three sons and five grandchildren. “I got the ticket and went back out to my truck and stared at it for 10 minutes in pure shock.” It was his largest win to date.
Niblett said he generally stops at Bodie’s Market before or after work to purchase his PLAY 3 and PLAY 4 tickets, and occasionally an Instant Game. He’s been playing his father’s favorite numbers and the last four digits of his home phone number in the PLAY 3 and PLAY 4 games for 10 years. Those numbers are extra special to him, especially since his father isn’t with him anymore.
“When I got home from the store, I immediately woke up my wife,” said Niblett. “Of course she didn’t believe me at first, but once she realized it was real, she started making her dream wish list.”
Niblett plans to use the money to pay off a few bills, then put the rest into savings. By chance, it was his granddaughter’s birthday the day he won, so she got something a little extra special with the prize money.

The winner told Lottery officials she was relaxing at home and couldn’t believe her eyes when she scratched the ticket. “Nobody was in the room when I scratched it, but my husband was home,” said the winner. “I couldn’t believe it. I told him what happened, and even today, we both still have trouble believing this happened to us.”
The married couple doesn’t think this win will change their lives drastically, but they do plan to use the winnings to purchase some new living room furniture, including a brand-new TV.
This is the winner’s largest win to date. She claimed her $100,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Friday, April 28.

(Dover, Del.) — A 62-year-old man is looking to upgrade his car after he won $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game. The loyal Lottery player purchased the winning ticket on Sunday, April 23 from Uncle Willie’s in Millsboro, Delaware, an establishment he has become friendly with over the years.
“The store in Millsboro is very close to my work, so I usually pick up my tickets before I head to the job,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I got the ticket and went back out to my car to scratch the ticket. When I realized I was a winner, I thought, ‘This isn’t happening.’ I swear it made my heart skip a beat.”
The winner told Lottery officials he regularly plays MULTI-WIN LOTTO, POWERBALL®, MEGA MILLIONS®, LUCKY FOR LIFE® and HOT LOTTO®—depending on the jackpot size. This is only the third time the winner purchased a $25 Instant Ticket, and it paid off.
“Usually I can’t sleep when I win in any of the Lottery games because I’m so excited and nervous,” said the winner. “For whatever reason, I fell right asleep last night. I woke up and of course, headed right down to Lottery Headquarters.”
This is the winner’s largest win to date, and he already has big plans for his prize. The man wants to put some of his winnings towards a new car, however, he is still in the process of picking one out. In addition, he plans to “share the wealth” and give some of the money to his mom.

The ticket was purchased at 7-11 on Centerville Road in Wilmington, Delaware.
“I went to the store and checked the ticket, which was a gift from Easter,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I had to have the clerk double-check the ticket under the scanner, and once he confirmed it was a winner, I thought, ‘This is the biggest Easter egg ever!’”
While the win won’t change his life in any way, he already has set his sights on a new motorcycle.

(Dover, Del.) — A 70-year-old retiree who purchased a $5 Extra Funds Instant Game ticket at the local Shore Stop on Long Neck Road in Millsboro, Delaware, was finally able to say, “It’s a big winner!” The woman, originally from Maryland, won $15,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Extra Funds Instant Game. The winner purchased the ticket on the morning of Tuesday, April 18, but it wasn’t until she was home later that night with her husband that she found out she was a prize winner.
“I used the winnings from a $2 Instant Game to purchase the $5 Extra Funds scratch-off,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I had to look at the ticket six different times. I couldn’t believe it. The last thing on my mind was that I would become a winner, and then it happened.”
The winner told Lottery officials that when she realized she won, she immediately told her husband, who also joined her at Lottery headquarters on Thursday, April 20 to claim her $15,000 prize. The married couple plans to use the money as a cushion since they are on a fixed income now that they are retired.
“This win will definitely change our lives significantly,” said the woman. “Now we don’t have to worry about tapping into our reserve money for repairs around the house or for a trip. We’re very practical and want to use the money the right way.”
The winner is excited to tell the “friendly” staff at the Shore Stop about the win, since that’s her hometown store. This is the winner’s largest win to date, and she mentioned she will certainty continue to play her favorite games, which include the Instant Games HOT LOTTO® and MEGA MILLIONS®.

(Dover, Del.) — A 57-year-old flagger and rock band singer found the luck he needed, winning $40,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, 7. Originally from Staten Island, New York, the winner has made Delaware his home since 1968. On a whim about two years ago, he decided to play his first Lottery Instant Game ticket—and won $50 on the first try. Since then, he has won occasionally playing a variety of Instant Games. But on April 7, 2017, he celebrated his largest win to date. The man believes his “good fortune” came in April because that month is a special one for his family.
“I was pretty down on my luck for the last three months,” said the winner. “I recently lost my sister, and some other things weren’t going my way. So I tried to change my luck by going to play a $10 Instant Game.”
The man went to Shore Stop #249 on S. Governor’s Avenue in Dover, Delaware, and purchased two $10 Instant Game tickets. “I went back to the car with the tickets, and it wasn’t until I scratched the last number on the second ticket that I knew something was different,” he said. “I immediately thought I had to be reading this wrong. I took the ticket inside the store and showed it to the guy behind the counter, who knows me from coming into the store often. He ran it under the scanner and started jumping up and down!”
The man claimed his $40,000 at Lottery Headquarters on Friday, April 7, and brought one of his closest friends with him. “The guy who is with me today was sleeping when I found out I won. I called and woke him up because I was too nervous to drive. He has helped me out when I needed it, so it’s time I return the favor with some of my winnings.”
The winner told Lottery officials that he doesn’t have any big plans for his money. But he does want to get some advice on saving from his father, a “military man” and former accountant who taught him a lot about saving and stretching his funds. He plans to speak with his father and share the exciting news with the rest of his family.
The winner added, “I feel very blessed and believe that everything happens when you need it most. My sister and brother celebrated their birthdays in April, and while they aren’t here anymore, I think this was their way of doing something nice for me. It’s really special.”

(Dover, Del.) — A dental assistant from New Castle County, Delaware, who only started playing the Lottery six months ago because she heard you have to “play big to win big,” took home a top prize of $150,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s new $150k Blowout Instant Game. The winner purchased the winning ticket from Books and Tobacco on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington.
The woman told Lottery officials she was still in the store when she found out she was a big winner.
“I scratched the ticket and really, without looking, just scanned it using the bar code,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “When the $150,000 popped up on the screen, I thought the machine was broken. I had to scan it a couple of times to double and triple check it was real.”
The woman called her twin brother immediately after finding out she was a top-prize winner. “I called my brother, and he started crying when I told him the news. What an amazing experience to share with someone. This type of thing doesn’t happen often, and I’m very fortunate.”
When asked if she has plans for the money she won, the woman humbly said she plans to focus on making this money stretch as far as possible. She plans to use a portion of the winnings for an upcoming surgery, but most importantly, she wants to purchase a home.
“This money is going to give me a house and really make the future bright,” said the winner. “I can’t say if I will continue to play, because what more do I really need? I feel so lucky and blessed that this happened to me. It’s a huge relief.”
She claimed her $150,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Friday, March 31.

(Dover, Del.) — A 72-year-old man from Seaford, Delaware, who always plays the Lottery with the hope of winning big, scratched his way to a top prize of $10,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Quarter Million Large Instant Game. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, has lived in Delaware for the last 15 years and started playing once he moved to the state.
“I occasionally play Instant Games and sometimes like to get in on the POWERBALL® as well,” said the winner. “While this is a large amount, it’s not going to change my life in any way. I’m going to continue to remain happy with my new winnings.”
The man purchased the ticket from Bridgeville Discount Liquors in Bridgeville, Delaware. He told Lottery officials he doesn’t plan on telling anyone about the big win and wants to keep it a secret, at least for now.
“I don’t have any big purchases or plans for the winnings,” he said. This is the winner’s largest win to date.

(Dover, Del.) — It’s no surprise that an 82-year-old mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who has moved more than five times to be closer to her family plans on letting everyone enjoy the $50,000 she won after correctly matching four of the five white-ball numbers plus the POWERBALL® in the March 22, 2017, POWERBALL® drawing. The woman purchased her winning ticket at the ACME Market on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
“I typically purchase three POWERBALL® tickets each week—one for my husband and me, one for each of my sons—but this week I had $10 cash in my purse, and I knew I’d be getting more to do my grocery shopping,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “So, my instincts told me to purchase two more tickets, which I did.”
The mother of two, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of four took her tickets home from the ACME and checked the POWERBALL® numbers online the following morning.
“I started screaming so loudly my son came downstairs thinking I was having a heart attack,” said the winner. “He double-checked the numbers and confirmed we’d won $50,000. Then my husband joined us and was remarkably calm. He insisted that I sit down before I did actually have a heart attack!”
When the woman claimed her prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on March 29, she shared that she couldn’t remember quite how long she has been playing the Lottery, but that she started around the time the Delaware Lottery started offering the POWERBALL®. She said she buys tickets for the POWERBALL® once a week and occasionally purchases a Delaware Lottery Instant Game ticket.
When asked if she has plans for the money she won, the woman humbly said she didn’t have any grand ideas because she and her husband have everything they need and have done everything in life they’d hoped to do.
“We’re already living at the beach. Our family is nearby. There’s nothing left on my bucket list. My husband and I are very content,” she said. “I believe that if you don’t laugh, you cry... and I prefer to laugh. So, no, I’m not going to make big plans or travel to far-off places and create potential bumps in the road. I most love being with family, so all I have planned right now is to share this with them and let everyone enjoy it a little bit!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 35-year-old woman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, finished off what she called a bad week on a spectacular note when she won a top prize of $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s 20X Lucky Instant Game. The woman purchased her winning ticket from the Claymont Exxon in Claymont, Delaware, on March 25, 2017.
“I didn’t have a great week, but I felt that this time might be my lucky day playing the lottery and that something would turn my week around,” said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous. “Before I purchased my tickets, I was even dreaming a bit and planning what I’d do with the money if I won. So I purchased more tickets than I usually do.”
The woman, who works as an administrative assistant for an engineering firm, was visiting her sister and two nieces in Delaware, and stopped to purchase three Instant Game tickets on her way back home to Philadelphia. She scratched her tickets in the car outside of the Claymont Exxon.
“I visited my sister on Friday and hadn’t intended to stay over, but my nieces begged me to stay, so I did,” said the winner. “Who knows? If I had purchased my ticket Friday night on my way home instead of Saturday morning, I might not be a winner. This has made my year!”
After she discovered she had won $20,000, the woman screamed with excitement for a few seconds then called her sister several times without getting an answer. She then texted her sister a photo of the winning ticket and eventually received a return call.
“We were both so excited,” said the winner. “My family has been urging my sister to move back to Pennsylvania to be closer to us. But now, I think I’ll encourage her to stay in Delaware! This has made me one of the state’s biggest fans.”
The woman told Delaware Lottery officials that she is a casual Lottery player and is very conscientious about always playing within her means. She has been playing the Lottery since she was 18 years old and likes to play Instant Games as well as POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® when the jackpots get large or if she is feeling that good karma is on her side.
When she claimed her prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on March 27, the winner told officials this was by far her largest Lottery win to date. She also said that in addition to paying a credit card bill, she will use her winnings to get started on one of her dreams as a young woman.
“I’ve been looking at houses, hoping to buy my own, but I haven’t been able to afford the huge down payment,” she said. “Now, with the $20,000, I’m going to pick the house I want and make that down payment!”

The 35-year-old man, from Smyrna, Delaware, purchased two $20 and $25 Instant Game tickets from Minquadale Liquors in New Castle and took home a top prize of $150,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, $150,000 Payout.
The man, who works as a manager and wishes to remain anonymous, likes to play the Lottery based on instinct. When he feels luckier then usual, he goes that day and purchases a ticket.
“I was still in the store when I scratched it,” said the man. “I handed over the ticket to the clerk and couldn’t believe the news when it was confirmed I was a winner.”
The first people he told about the win were his wife and a close friend. The man and his wife plan to use the money to remodel their kitchen, something his wife has been wanting to do for a long time.

(Dover, Del.) — A 46-year-old charter school administrator is looking forward to upgrading his smoker to a custom deluxe model after he won $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s $250,000 Cash Instant Game this spring. The man purchased his winning ticket the morning of March 23 at the Shore Stop on S. DuPont Highway in Townsend, Delaware.
“I stopped to purchase the ticket on my way to work, scratched it off in the car and for a minute contemplated calling in sick,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “But I couldn’t let my good fortune get in the way of what I do for the school. So I tried to contain my excitement, went on with the workday and then headed to the Lottery office.”
When the man claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters late in the afternoon of March 23, he said that aside from the Lottery officials, he hadn’t told anyone about his winning ticket. The man, a father of two teenagers, shared that he purchases Instant Games tickets several times a week and occasionally plays POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®. His largest win before this one was $1,000, but he doesn’t feel this win will change his playing habits.
“I always get my Instant Games tickets at the Shore Stop, and I’m in there frequently enough that all the clerks know me,” said the man. “I play POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® on occasion, but not necessarily when the jackpots are large. I figure whatever the jackpot is, it is more than I have.”
The man told Delaware Lottery officials that he has had his eye on a custom smoker for a while and now plans to treat himself by purchasing it in time for the warm weather and summer fun. In addition, he will use part of his $10,000 for bills, car payments and to help with tuition for his daughter, who will soon be starting college.

(Dover, Del.) — It was just another day on the job for a 33-year-old construction worker from Magnolia, Delaware, until he scratched his $5 Instant Game tickets during his lunch break. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased five of the Delaware Lottery’s 7 Spot Instant Game tickets from Uncle Willie’s in Woodside, Delaware, and one turned out to be a $15,000 winner.
The single man told Lottery officials he just started playing about two years ago, since he saw all the big-winner names at Lottery retailers across the state. He thought if other local people could win, then he could too.
“I was on my lunch break with two other co-workers,” said the man. “I scratched it and originally thought it said $15. I had to have the guys double- and triple-check to make sure it was a winner. Sure enough it was!”
The man doesn’t have any plans for the winnings right now, but is thinking he may use some of it for a future vacation to Florida. The winner will continue to play the Lottery every once in a while with the hope of winning big.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased four of the Delaware Lottery’s Bronze 7 Instant Game tickets, and one of them was a $15,000 top-prize winner.
“It was actually a really nice day, so I was enjoying the weather outside on the lawn with my mom and son,” said the winner. “We always like to check our tickets together because it adds to the excitement. So I pulled mine out and started scratching. Once reality set in that I won, I couldn’t help but shout my mom’s name over and over again until I finally got her attention.”
The woman told Lottery officials she went back to where she purchased the ticket, Books & News in Newark, to scan and make sure the ticket was a winner. She noted this is her largest win to date.
“The games are really a lot of fun,” said the winner. “We may be sitting at home watching TV and go pick up a few Lottery tickets just for some fun. Now that I know it really only takes one ticket to win, I’ll be back to play some more.”

(Dover, Del.) — A service tech from Laurel, Delaware, celebrated his 67th birthday in an unusual way, claiming a top prize of $50,000 at Delaware Lottery Headquarters for playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Money Madness. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, kept the signed ticket safely locked up until the calendar landed on March 6, his birthday.
“I normally buy a couple tickets, but I was teasing the clerk behind the register, saying I’m only going to buy one ticket from her today,” said the winner. “Of course that ended up being the winning ticket! I didn’t find out I was a winner until two hours later when my service call was finished. I had to clean my glasses to make sure I was seeing it right.”
The man purchased the winning ticket at Royal Farms #125 in Blades, Delaware, and noted this is his largest win to date. He previously won $10,000 years ago.
“I travel for work, so I usually buy tickets when I stop at the Royal Farms, and I’m lucky enough that most times I am able to buy lunch or dinner, or reinvest my winnings into Lottery tickets,” said the single man. “I normally buy scratch-off games, but my rule of thumb is if I win over $20, then I can at least get $10 in POWERBALL® or MEGA MILLIONS® tickets.”

“I normally buy my Lottery tickets at the local Pep-Up in Long Neck before work, but I was out of the area that day since I was off from work,” said the winner. “I was running morning errands and stopped at the Pep-Up store in Lewes, Delaware, for my Coca-Cola fix—and to check my tickets. I was so nervous after finding out I won that I left the store without my soda—which never happens!”
The single man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials he plans to use the winnings to remodel his mother’s house, where he is currently living.
“I’m from a large family, the youngest of six kids, and currently living with my mom and sister,” said the winner. “My sister and I are living with our mom right now to take care of her, so I was very excited to tell both of them that I will finally be able to give my mom the bathroom with all the upgrades she has been dreaming of. Our friends call our family ‘The Brady Bunch,’ because we are a family of three boys and three girls, so it will be nice to have a renovated area we can all use.”
In addition to remodeling the house, the man plans to use his winnings to pay off debt. He told Lottery officials the money will make things a bit easier and allow him to live stress-free.
“I can’t wait to tell the clerk at the Pep Up store about the news,” said the man. “I see him every morning, and it will be nice to have something exciting to chat about.”
The winner won the jackpot by matching 6 of 6 numbers on one line in the March 6th drawing. He claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Tuesday, March 7.

(Dover, Del.) — A 68-year-old retiree from Ocean View, Delaware, who does all the cooking for his two grandchildren, decided to upgrade their afternoon snack to going out to dinner to celebrate a special Instant Game win. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, won $10,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s new Instant Game $250,000 Cash. He purchased his ticket from Weis Market in Millville, Delaware.
“I was in the kitchen having my usual afternoon chat with my son, and scratched the ticket while I was sitting at the table,” said the winner. “I was in a little bit of shock, but my son was in total disbelief. Not long after I realized I won, my grandchildren got home from school. They are two growing boys and are always hungry—so taking them out for a nice dinner to celebrate the win really hit the spot for everyone.”
The winner told Lottery officials that he mainly plays Instant Games but also likes to participate in POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® drawings when the jackpots get large. The winner doesn’t have a method or process for buying Lottery tickets. He just picks them up whenever he happens to be in a store. The $10,000 prize from the $250,000 Cash Instant Game was his largest win to date.
“It’s really great timing because I just bought my son a new Ford Escape, and we paid $23,000, so now I can have fewer car payments,” said the man.

(Dover, Del.) — A 47-year-old customer service representative from Wilmington, Delaware, turned a $50,000 winning POWERBALL® ticket into $100,000 by adding Power Play to her POWERBALL® purchase. The married woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning ticket at Market Street Shell in Wilmington, Delaware.
“I scanned the ticket in the machine, and it made a beeping sound,” said the winner. “I didn’t remember it making that sound before, so I took it to another machine, and it made the same sound. That beeping sound meant it was a winner! I’ve been playing a couple of dollars here and there, but I never expected to win anything major—and certainly not this big.”
“Instead of bringing in one ticket at a time to check them, I like to bring in a stack,” said the woman. “I get encouraged when I hear about big winners in the area, so when I bring them in all at once, I’m usually guaranteed to walk away with something!“
The woman is not planning to tell anyone about the win, but wants to use her winnings to send her son to college. Her son is currently a freshman in high school. In addition, she is going to put the money toward her mortgage and pay off debt.
The woman claimed her $100,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Wednesday, March 1.

(Dover, Del.) — This past Friday was unlike any other for a 32-year-old Camden, Delaware, resident. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was purchasing her HOT LOTTO® tickets at Willow Grove Food Mart on Willow Grove Road in Camden, Delaware, when a gut feeling led her to impulsively purchase a ticket for the Delaware Lottery’s new Instant Game, $250,000 Cash. Though the winner didn’t take home the top prize, her unplanned decision paid off in a $10,000 win.
“I went to my car to scratch the ticket, and was in complete disbelief after seeing I was a winner,” said the woman, who is an employee of the state of Delaware. “This is the first time I’ve won a prize of this size, and it’s very exciting.”
The winner told Lottery officials that her parents live close by and she told them about the exciting news. “They are so thrilled for me and now even say they are going to get in on the Lottery games.”
The winner plans to use her new cash to pay off some debt. She told Lottery officials she has even more enthusiasm to play now that she knows becoming a winner is possible.
She claimed her prize of $10,000 at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Friday, February 24.

(Dover, Del.) — This spring, a 70-year-old Delaware man will be celebrating his fifth anniversary as a resident of the state with a small, one-man celebration and a big addition to his bank account. The man visited Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover the day after the February 22 POWERBALL® drawing to claim his $50,000 win. The man purchased his winning ticket on February 20 at the Redner’s Warehouse Markets in Dover, Delaware.
“When I checked the numbers online the night of the drawing, I could not believe it,” said the winner, who relocated to Delaware from Alexandria, Virginia, nearly five years ago. “I also don’t think I got much sleep that night, waiting until I could verify my win in the morning. I’ve been playing the lottery pretty much from the time it began, but I never expected to win anything major—and certainly not this big!”
“This time, I had been buying POWERBALL® tickets for about four or five weeks, and always took the random-draw option,” said the retired higher education professional. ”This past fall, I won about $3,000 in Las Vegas. At the time, I thought that was something great, but that was nothing compared to this!”
The man joked with Delaware Lottery Officials that his $50,000 win makes him even more of an eligible bachelor. When he claimed his prize on February 23, he hadn’t yet shared his news with anyone, because he had spent most of the day at home, alone, while he waited for a local charity to pick up furniture he was donating.
“I’m looking forward to using some of this money to take a nice trip this summer—to the national parks out west. Yellowstone. Yosemite. Glacier National Park. They are beautiful places, and thanks to my winnings, I can experience them.”
The man shared that he doesn’t expect his $50,000 win to impact his lottery habits. “I’ll just play as usual when the jackpot begins to grow, and if I win, so be it.”

(Dover, Del.) — Having spent a portion of his career as a private investigator, one recent Delaware Lottery winner possesses a keen sense of following instinct. That sense paid off for him significantly when he acted on a feeling that he should purchase a few extra Lottery tickets on his birthday. One of those tickets was an $82,107 winner in the Delaware Lottery’s MULTI-WIN LOTTO. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket on February 9, 2017, at the ACME Market at Suburban Plaza in Newark, Delaware.
“I had already purchased my usual number of tickets earlier that week: five MULTI-WIN and two POWERBALL® tickets,” said the man, who is retired but continues to work part time. “But I was feeling good on my birthday when I got out of work and decided to take the one-minute drive to ACME to treat myself to three more MULTI-WIN tickets. I just had a feeling, so I did it.”
The following Friday, February 17, the man returned to the location where he purchased his extra tickets to see if any were winners.
“I remember that day quite well,” said the winner. “I followed almost the same routine. I left work at 2:30, drove one minute to the ACME and went to the machine to scan my MULTI-WIN LOTTO tickets. I scanned the first ticket and was happy to have won $25. The second was a non-winner. When I checked the final ticket, I thought for sure I was seeing things because I hadn’t put on my glasses. I asked the man next to me if he saw what I thought I was seeing—a dollar sign with seven digits after it. We both just stared at the ticket for a while in disbelief!”
Seconds later, an ACME staff member verified that the ticket was an $82,107 winner and told the man that they knew the ticket had been sold at their store. The winner thanked him, went to his car and called his fiancé.
“I had planned to tease her and tell her we’d won enough to pay off her cell phone, which was $50,” said the 72-year-old man. “But she didn’t answer the phone. By the time she called back, I had already talked to the Delaware Lottery and was so excited that I more or less blurted out the news.”
“I didn”t believe him,” said the winner’s fiancé. “I’m standing here now looking at the check, and I’m still not sure it’s sunk in yet!”
When he claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters on February 20, the man told Delaware Lottery officials that he has occasionally won $25 or $35 playing the Lottery, but nothing nearly as substantial as this $82,107. He also indicated that this win was not going to drive him to increase his frequency of playing.
“However, I do intend to win again!” said the man with a large smile. “This was a godsend for us, as we’ve had some rough times over the past 10 years. I can’t thank the Delaware Lottery staff enough for their kindness. A Delaware Lottery employee stayed late on the Friday I discovered my winnings so that they could verify my win and get the paperwork ready so we could pick up our check today. Everyone here is so sweet and truly wonderful.”
The couple said their plan for the money is to simply enjoy being debt-free, as well as to take a mini vacation some place tropical.
“We’re not going to go crazy with this,” said the man. “We’re just grateful that we can live a more relaxed life without the financial stress of the last several years.”

(Dover, Del.) — Brenda Mason, a 59-year-old credit consultant who occasionally plays scratch-off games for the “thrill,” can now put a down payment on a car. Mason won a top prize of $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, 20X. She purchased two tickets, including the winning ticket, from Cutrona’s Liquors in Wilmington, Delaware.
After purchasing the ticket, Mason returned home, where she scratched off both tickets and discovered her top-prize win.
“I called my sister and really couldn’t believe it,” said Mason. “My sister lives only down the street, so she came right over. We headed to a local Lottery Retailer to verify the ticket with a scanner. The scanner only proved the same results—that I was a winner!”
Mason told Lottery officials that she already has big plans for her winnings. “While this win won’t change my life, because I still have to work, it really helps with putting a down payment on a new car. I’ve had a Lexus in the past, so I think I’ll stick with that brand and will purchase a new one.”
The winner claimed her $20,000 prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Thursday, January 26.

(Dover, Del.) — A 70-year-old married man from Sewell, New Jersey, is feeling very grateful after winning a top prize of $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, 20X. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket from Airport News & Tobacco in New Castle, Delaware.
“Every week I buy POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® tickets plus some scratch-offs,” said the winner. “I was completely shocked when I found out I won. I thought it was a joke at first, because you never really expect to win.”
The winner told Lottery officials this win isn’t going to change his life, but he plans to use the money to do good things for others. “I’ve been very blessed with terrific family and friends. I have three children and six grandchildren, and play with the hope that if I won the Lottery, I would be able to help them and share the wealth.”
In addition to giving some of his winnings to his family, he plans to use the money to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary by taking his wife on a surprise trip to Italy.

(Dover, Del.) — While many people believe that Friday the 13th is unlucky, five Delaware Lottery players would argue otherwise. David Reagen, Christopher Geiger, Dan Newman, Dennis Cardamone, and Mike Blachowics, who refer to themselves as the “Fantastic Five,” purchased 13 group POWERBALL® tickets from Brookside Country Maid Deli in Newark, Delaware, in honor of the mysterious holiday. And their instincts paid off. The group won $50,004 in the January 14 drawing and have agreed to split the prize.
“We get together with a group of guys a fair amount over the football season to watch the games at the local bar,” said 53-year-old Geiger. “We were celebrating Dan getting a promotion, and he mentioned we should get POWERBALL® tickets because he was feeling the 13th magic. And it’s good we did.”
“I woke up Sunday morning and checked the tickets—not even thinking any would be winners,” said 62-year-old Cardamone. “I was completely shocked when I realized we had won, and sent everyone a text. Of course, no one believed me at first until I sent them a picture of the ticket as proof.”
The group has been enjoying their weekend tradition of watching football and playing the Delaware Lottery games for a long time, and they feel very lucky about their win. The winners told Lottery officials that this is their largest win to date, and it won’t be their last.
The winners have their own special plans for how they will use their winnings, such as paying for their children’s education, giving to the poor, fixing a treasured mountain bike, paying down debt and even playing Delaware Lottery games.
The winning numbers for the January 14 drawing were 23, 55, 59, 64 and 69. The POWERBALL® number was 13, and the Power Play number was 5x.
The winners claimed their prize (less 25 percent after federal tax) at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

The single man, who wants to remain anonymous, is a state of Delaware employee who usually plays various Instant Games three or four times a week.
On January 10, he followed his regular after-work routine and proceeded to the Shore Stop in Rising Sun-Lebanon, Delaware, to purchase some tickets. While there, he scratched off the winning ticket and immediately exclaimed, “Oh, I think I won!” The store clerk verified his happy finding.
The winner claims he hasn’t told anyone so far and does not plan to in the future. He said he wants to use his winnings to “pay off Christmas.”
After spending what he called a sleepless night, he claimed his prize at the Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on January 11.

(Dover, Del.) — It’s a dream start to the new year for one lucky Delaware retiree, who won $50,000 after correctly matching four of the five white-ball numbers in the December 31, 2016, POWERBALL® drawing. The 64-year-old man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket from Weis Market in Lewes, Delaware.
“I was completely shocked when I read the ticket in the store,” said the winner. “I had the guys from behind the counter double check the ticket, and they got the same result. I told them I wasn’t going to believe it until I got the check. Now here I am, with an extra $50,000!”
The man plays Instant Games but also likes to participate in POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® drawings. He usually purchases his tickets at Weis Market because he has become friendly with the workers there.
“It was a Tuesday, and I was looking to buy my usual MEGA MILLIONS® ticket when I accidently bought a POWERBALL® ticket,” he said. “I kept the ticket anyway, and it turned out to be the lucky one.”
The winner told Lottery officials he already has big plans with his prize money. “My 93-year-old mother lives with me, and I plan to take her to a nice dinner out on the town,” said the winner. “Ironically, I was looking into buying a new Kia Sportage, but now I won’t have a car payment.”
The winning numbers for the Saturday, December 31 drawing were 01, 03, 28, 57 and 67. The POWERBALL® number was 09, and the Power Play number was 2x.

(Dover, Del.) — Parents go to great lengths to make holidays memorable for their children, but this year a mother of three from Dagsboro, Delaware received a special gift of her own. Maria Del Carmen Riveria Cruz, a stay-at-home mom, made a trip to Savannah Discount Liquor in Dagsboro, Delaware, and purchased a ticket for the Delaware Lottery’s Cash Bonus Instant Game, which turned out to be a $15,000 winner.
“I made my purchase, returned home and scratched off the ticket,” said Cruz. “In the few years I?ve been playing the Lottery, I never realized I was supposed to scratch the back of the Cash Bonus ticket. Out of curiosity, I finally scratched the back—that’s when I knew I was a winner!“
The woman went with her daughter to claim her prize at the Lottery offices. “I was the only person home when she realized she won,” said Cruz’s daughter. “My mom was so excited she was running around in circles. I jokingly said, “what did you win the lottery?” and to my surprise she really did!”
“This is the first time I’ve won a prize this large,” said Cruz. “I usually play the Cash Bonus Instant Game because some of our friends have won big on this game. For whatever reason, it felt luckier then others so it turns out my instincts were right.”
When the winner claimed her $15,000 prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on December 28, she told Lottery officials she plans to put the money into savings and to use some of it to help her family bounce back financially after the Christmas holiday.
“While the win won’t dramatically change my life, it will just make things a little easier,” said Cruz. “I will definitely check the back of the Cash Bonus ticket from now on. It was definitely a mistake I won’t ever forget!”
