(Dover, Del.) — The fact that it was Christmas Day didn’t deter one Laurel, Delaware, resident from disrupting her daily routine of buying a Delaware Lottery Instant Game ticket. On December 25, she made her way to the Royal Farms at 8800 Concord Road in Blades, Delaware, and purchased a ticket for the Delaware Lottery’s 50X Instant Game, which turned out to be a $50,000 winner.
“I made my purchase, returned home and scratched off the ticket with my husband and son,” said the retiree, who wished to remain anonymous. “As soon as we saw what we thought was a $50,000 win, I went right back to the Royal Farms to make sure. Sure enough, they confirmed that I had won. Besides me thanking the clerk, I was speechless.”
The woman returned home, safeguarding her ticket. Her $50,000 win on December 25 represented the final top prize available in the 50X Instant Game.
“My husband was so happy,” said the mother of four and grandmother of seven. “Then he told me to make sure I go to the Lottery office first thing on Tuesday, then directly to the bank after that and deposit the money!”
“I don’t plan on changing my Lottery habits,” said the winner. “But I also don’t expect this wonderful win will change my life much either. We’re going to put it in the bank and use it responsibly to pay some bills as well as to have some safekeeping for unexpected medical bills or other expenses.”

(Dover, Del.) — One lucky warehouse associate started the holiday season with an early gift. The 51-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, won $25,000 playing MEGA MILLIONS® with Megaplier. The man purchased his winning ticket from Acme of College Square in Newark, Delaware.
The longtime player, who wished to remain anonymous, said this is his biggest Lottery win to date.
“I usually check my tickets online and was sitting at home when I found out that I won,” he said. “I really couldn’t believe this was happening and had to keep checking the ticket, because you never expect to see your numbers!”
The man was shocked and wanted to share the news with his longtime partner, who he mentioned was really excited about the win. The winner picked his own numbers, which were the birth years of his brother, sister, mom and dad. Ironically, his birth year was the only white ball that wasn’t picked.
The man claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Friday, December 23, 2016.

(Dover, Del.) — Gregory Brown, a 54-year-old Delaware business owner, made the business transaction of his lifetime when he converted one $25 winning ticket into a $250,000 prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. Here’s how it went down for the Mullica Hill, New Jersey, resident.
Brown, who owns Gregory Automotive Group in New Castle, Delaware, decided to walk across the street from his company to cash in a ticket at North DuPont Shell on DuPont Highway. The salesperson asked him if he wanted his winnings in cash or tickets. As it turns out, Brown made the right decision! His $250,000 prize represented the last top prize for this game, which debuted in February of this year.
After scratching off the ticket, Brown said to himself, “This can’t be real.” After staring at the ticket and rechecking it about 20 times, he confirmed his suspicion with one of his salespeople. He wasn’t able to tell his wife until he got home later that day, and she immediately wanted to go out and buy a new coffee machine.
Brown, a father of two children, says he has been playing the Lottery for about eight years. His largest prize to date is $500, which he has won about five times. He told Lottery officials he plans to pay off an equity loan and “put the rest in the bank until I get older.”
The winner claimed the $250,000 prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Thursday, December 15.

(Dover, Del.) — A retired Delaware resident has upgraded his plans for holiday gift buying after winning $10,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. The man purchased his winning ticket at Express Food Market on Pulaski Highway in Bear.
“I don’t have any system for how often I buy tickets or which tickets I buy,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous. “I don’t typically buy the $25 Instant Games, but for some reason the mood struck me to buy two of them. Now here I am, with an extra $10,000 to contribute to my Christmas present funds!”
The man, proudly identifying himself as “79 years young,” told Lottery officials he has been playing the Lottery for approximately four years. Although he has won smaller prizes on Instant Games before, this $10,000 win is by far his largest.
“I was shocked when I took the ticket home, scratched it off and discovered how much I had won,” said the man. “It’s a great feeling and I wish other Lottery players good luck, too.”

(Dover, Del.) — A 34-year-old hotel manager from Smyrna, Delaware, has a big secret that he hasn’t shared with his family. On Friday night, he stopped at Minquadale Liquors in New Castle, Delaware, and to his amazement won a $100,000 top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s In the Money Instant Game.
The winner told Delaware Lottery officials that the timing of the big win couldn’t have been better. “I’ve been house hunting with my wife for some time now, and this will be the perfect down payment for our new house. A house is the biggest thing in someone’s life, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, has only been playing the Lottery for about six months and likes playing the Instant Games.
“When I was in the store I didn’t react, to avoid unwanted attention. I even kept the secret from my wife and family all weekend just so I can surprise her with the news and check when I come home today!”
In addition to putting a down payment on a house, the man plans to donate a portion of his winnings to a charity of his choice. He claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on December 5.

(Dover, Del.) — After working years as a bus aid for autistic children, an 86-year-old Newark woman experienced good karma this fall when she won $30,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s October 19 HOT LOTTO® drawing by matching 5 white balls. She purchased her winning ticket the same day as the drawing at the ShopRite in Chestnut Hill Plaza in Newark, Delaware.
The winner told Delaware Lottery officials that the timing of the big win couldn’t have been better. “I just picked up my new car on Saturday,” said the Newark resident, who claimed her prize the following Thursday. “Now I can pay it off and not have to worry about monthly payments.”
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, has been a regular Lottery player for about a decade and usually buys $5 worth of HOT LOTTO® tickets each week when she does her grocery shopping. She discovered her $30,000 win one week after purchasing the ticket, when she decided to scan her old tickets during her shopping trip.
“I handed all my tickets to the clerk, and she quickly came out from behind the counter to show me that I had won $30,000,” said the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. “I didn’t believe it and asked her to scan it again, which she did. After she double-checked the ticket and got the same result, I was in shock. I remember her asking me if I needed a chair until I caught my breath!”
Before this big win, the woman had a few successful HOT LOTTO® tickets, including two $500 winners and a handful of wins ranging from $1 to $5. After discovering she had won $30,000, the woman immediately called her daughter, who lives with her, as well as her other children.
“Everyone was so excited for me. I still sometimes can’t believe it happened. I guess everyone gets lucky now and then. You just have to remember that you have to play to win!”
In addition to paying off her new car loan, the woman plans to spend her winnings on her great-grandchildren. She claimed her prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on October 27.

(Dover, Del.) — James Craig, a 50-year-old water and wastewater operator from Kent County, Delaware, started out his “staycation” by winning a $10,000 prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. He purchased the winning ticket the morning of October 11 at Stop & Shop on White Oak Road in Dover, Delaware.
Craig, a single man, told Lottery officials that he plays for the excitement of the game. “I was still standing in the store and realized the first ticket I purchased wasn’t a winner, so I scratched the second ticket. I knew right when I saw the first three numbers it was a winner. I immediately dropped to my knees in shock. I was so excited that I even went over and hugged the attendant at the store. I truly wasn’t expecting it. It was as if my wish had come true.”
Craig told Lottery officials that he only told his best friend about the win and wants to keep the news mostly to himself. “My friend kept asking me if I was serious. I had to keep reminding him that I wasn’t making it up!”
Craig mentioned that the win won’t change his life, but this money gives him peace of mind. He plans to put his winnings into the bank to save. “I’ll continue to play the Lottery, and today’s win definitely made it worthwhile!”

(Dover, Del.) — Alex Smith, a 49-year-old operations manager at Aqua Pro Incorporated, discovered he was five times lucky after playing a variety of Delaware Lottery Instant Games. That’s because all five of his tickets were winners, including a $15,000 top-prize-winning Bronze 7 ticket. The lucky player purchased those five tickets Tuesday, October 4 at Royal Farms in Smyrna on DuPont Highway.
Smith, a married man and father of two, told Lottery officials he doesn’t have a specific strategy, but that he always purchases $20 worth of tickets at random. Smith is a regular Lottery player and said he decided to stop at Royal Farms on his way to work. He then took the five tickets back to his car to scratch them.
“I was in the car and did the first one, and it ended up being $15,000. I immediately took a picture of it and thought that since I have four more tickets, maybe there’s another big one here! The luck kept going, and each ticket after that ranged from $1 to $100.”
Smith was shocked and immediately called his wife to tell her the exciting news. “She was still sleeping when I called, but I had to wake her up for news this big! My wife has been wanting to buy a dress for our son’s wedding, and now we have the money to get her the one that she wants.”
Since this was his largest win to date, Smith thought he deserved the day off from work. “My boss was very happy for me and told me to take the day, but mentioned that I’d have to buy him lunch in the future,” Smith said jokingly.
Smith told Lottery officials that the win won’t change his life, but it will definitely make him happier for the next few months. He plans to buy his wife a dress for the wedding and put the rest into savings.

(Dover, Del.) — A 27-year-old construction worker from Delmar, Delaware, was feeling the luck on his mother’s birthday, so he took his chances playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large, and it paid off. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Seaford BP in Seaford, Delaware, on September 24.
“My mother recently passed away, and I told my five siblings to make sure they play the Lottery on her birthday since it was coming up,” said the winner.
The man told Lottery officials he has been playing the Lottery for years and that this is his largest win to date.
“I was with my girlfriend when we purchased the ticket. We went back into the car, and I told her to scratch it, but she didn’t want to because she thought she was unlucky. I convinced her to give it a try, and she got to the last number and thought I won $10. I immediately went crazy and shouted that it wasn’t $10, but $10,000!”
The winner was shocked and called his siblings to tell them the good news. “I told them I was going to win, but no one believed me at first! Now they all wish they played on mom’s birthday!”
The winner told Lottery officials that the win won’t change his life, but it will make things a little easier. He plans to save the money and give some to his girlfriend.

The married man told Lottery officials he doesn’t have a specific strategy, but that he does buy tickets at random whenever he is out.
“I purchased the tickets early Tuesday morning and then left to visit family out-of-state. When I got home last night, after settling in from our trip, I went to check the tickets online.”

(Dover, Del.) — Patience has paid off for a 71-year-old man who had to wait to purchase his tickets for the Delaware Lottery’s Cash Bonus Instant Game until an employee at the Super G on Concord Pike in Wilmington installed a new pack of tickets. The man purchased the first ticket of the new pack on September 7, 2016, and later that day, he discovered that his patience had earned him the game’s top prize of $15,000.
“I had my mind set that I was going to buy at least one Cash Bonus ticket, and installing a new pack of tickets in the dispenser didn’t take long,” said Steven Welch of Wilmington, Delaware. “I didn’t scratch off any of the tickets immediately. I always take my tickets home to scratch off while I relax with a little wine, cheese and olives. I guess you can call it my lottery scratch-off ritual!”
Welch, an elementary school librarian, has been playing the Lottery since he moved to Delaware approximately 20 years ago. He mainly plays Instant Games but also likes to participate in POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® drawings when the jackpots get large. His Cash Bonus top prize was by far his largest win to date.
“When I got home on the day I purchased my tickets, I proceeded with my lottery scratch-off ritual while my wife was cooking dinner,” said Welch. “She’s used to me scratching off tickets and either shouting out that I won a few bucks or cursing that I have nothing. But this night, she sensed something was up, because I was absolutely silent. When she finally asked me about the silence, I commented that I just had chicken scratch.”
As soon as his wife heard that comment, she knew something was different and hurried over to her husband to look at his tickets. Both husband and wife then started shaking with excitement.
“We hid the ticket in our breadbox for five or six days,” said Welch. “I was so afraid to sign it in case something happened to me before we could cash it in. But today, I signed it and headed to the Delaware Lottery Office. Still, other than my wife, I haven’t told a soul about this unexpected blessing.”
Soon, however, Welch will be telling a few other close friends and relatives about the big win. He claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on September 13.

(Dover, Del.) — A retired Georgetown, Delaware, woman is celebrating a “change of routine” that resulted in her winning a top prize of $25,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Super Cash. She purchased her winning ticket on Saturday, September 10 at the Dot 108 Discount Store in Georgetown, Delaware.
The 79-year-old woman plays a Lottery Instant Game once a week, a tradition that is part of her son’s weekly visits.
“He always brings me one scratch-off game when he stops in to see me every week,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “He’s been bringing me a Bronze 7 ticket for as long as I can recall. But for some reason this week, he decided to change it up and get me the Super Cash. Whatever gave him the itch to make a change now made me a $25,000 winner.”
The winner went on to say that she didn’t believe her son when he first looked at her ticket and told her she had won the top prize.
“My son’s a big jokester, so I just assumed he was pulling my leg. I didn’t believe him until just a few minutes ago, when we arrived at Delaware Lottery Headquarters and they handed me the check!”
The retiree claimed her prize on Monday, September 12, 2016, and told Lottery officials that now that she has the check in hand and knows she really has won, she can’t wait to share the news with her friends. Even though the woman has been playing the lottery for so long that she can’t remember exactly when she started, she does know without a doubt that this $25,000 win is by far her largest prize to date. When asked if she had any plans for the money, the woman very humbly stated that the prize will not change her life significantly.
“I already have everything I could ever want or need, and I love my life just the way it is. Except for me maybe buying myself a nice lobster dinner and cashing in on a few friendly bragging rights with my friends, I don’t plan on making any changes to my life.”

(Dover, Del.) — A 52-year-old from Seaford, Delaware, learned an exciting lesson in reinvestment this week when he won $10,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. He reinvested the money from another Quarter Million Large win to purchase his $10,000-winning ticket at Concord Liquor in Seaford.
The local business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, was with his wife at the time of the purchase. “We stopped in and decided to play while we were in the store,” said the winner. “Instead of pocketing the $100 winnings, we took a chance and put it toward the Quarter Million Large game, and it paid off!”
The man is a relatively new Lottery player. “My son won $250,000 six months ago playing the Quarter Million Large, and that’s when I decided to try my luck with the Lottery. “I go in once a week and if I have a few extra dollars, I play a few games.”
The father of three told Lottery officials that his first reaction was excitement, but that the win didn’t make him go nuts. “It’s not a whole lot of money, but extra money is always a bonus. We plan to put half into savings, and the other half we will put to the side for a rainy day.”
“I enjoy playing the Lottery obviously to win, but it’s great because it helps the state,” he added.

(Dover, Del.) — A 50-year-old resident of Smyrna, Delaware, now believes that anything is possible after winning a $50,000 top prize playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Mega Bucks. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Royal Farms on DuPont Highway in Cheswold, Delaware.
The winner joked with Lottery officials, saying that he almost gave up playing because he thought winning a big prize would never happen to him.
“I purchased three tickets earlier that day, but then on my way home I realized I needed to stop and get gas,” said the winner. “So I went into the Royal Farms and noticed there were only four Mega Bucks tickets left, and I purchased one. What do you know, that ticket turned out to be the lucky $50,000!”
“At first I thought I was going blind,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. I had to be seeing things!”
He plans to use the money to pay off his credit card, pay bills and get something extra special for his mom. The man claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on September 1.

(Dover, Del.) — A driver who works three jobs recently took a route straight to the Delaware Lottery Headquarters to claim the $250,000 prize he won playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. The 41-year-old resident of Wilmington, Delaware, purchased his top-prize-winning ticket the morning of August 31, 2016, at the Dash In on Delaware Avenue in Wilmington.
Just last week, the winner joked with his son that he felt lucky and was going to win the top prize one day soon. After an unusual chain of events that led him to purchase the winning ticket, the winner made good on his prediction.
“I purchased one ticket somewhere else and won $200, but they weren’t able to cash it immediately,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “So I went to the Dash In to get something to eat while I waited, and I noticed they also sold tickets. So I purchased one and cashed my $200 winner. When the clerk asked if I wanted to purchase one more, I decided why not? I had no intention of getting three tickets that day, but thank goodness I did! That third ticket was my top-prize winner.”
The man, a father of three, discovered his win right then and there at the Dash In counter. “I started screaming. After the shock wore off, I did what any good father would do. I went to work,” he said. “Later in the day, I shared the news with my kids and my father. My one son insisted I send him a picture of the winning ticket. He and I were joking earlier that I would win the big prize, so I had to prove to him I wasn’t joking anymore!”
The man has been playing the lottery for about a year. Soon after he started playing, he won $2,500. After that win, he started playing more regularly, typically purchasing one ticket a week.
The man claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on September 1. Although it was only one day later, he told Lottery officials he planned to use the money to take a well-needed vacation somewhere tropical, pay off his car loan, purchase cars for his children and buy a house—which he had an appointment to look at the very next day.
“These have been my plans for a while, and I was just trying to figure out how to pay for it,” said the winner, who shared that he never had been on a legitimate vacation. “Now I have the answer!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 51-year-old Bear, Delaware, resident won’t have to worry about how to finance his upcoming purchase of an engagement ring. He won $50,000 by matching four white balls plus the Powerball number in the August 24, 2016, POWERBALL® drawing.
The Department of Corrections employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased five tickets, including the winner, on August 21 at the Royal Farms Store in Bear, Delaware, using the Quick Pick option.
The winner told Lottery officials this was his largest win to date. As is his habit, he waited until he had accumulated several days’ worth of tickets before checking for any winners. “I was astonished, but I haven’t told my fiancé yet,” said the winner. “I don’t have any big expenses, so I guess this will go toward buying a ring.”
The winner claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on August 30.

(Dover, Del.) — A Smyrna, Delaware, resident has put a little more faith in his number-picking “system” after it helped him win $50,000 in the August 24, 2016, POWERBALL® drawing. The retired homebuilder purchased 10 POWERBALL® tickets, including the winner, the day of the drawing at the Stadium Street Food Lion in Smyrna, Delaware.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, utilized the Quick Pick option for the regular numbers on the ticket that turned out to be the $50,000 ticket. However, on that same ticket, he selected his own POWERBALL® number, which for him is now considered “lucky number 16.”
“I know there’s no science behind it and no sure-fire system for picking winning numbers,” said the winner. “But I do have a formula and graphs that seem logical to me. And yesterday, that system told me to play number 16. Now here I am having won $50,019!”
The man, who relocated to Delaware from Florida 12 years ago, has been playing the lottery regularly for about 10 years. Lately he’s been playing once a week and likes to “mix it up” between POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®. He told Lottery officials that the size of the jackpot typically determines which of the two games he’ll play in a given week.
The winner was home alone when he checked his tickets on television early in the morning following the drawing.
“I saw the numbers but didn’t believe them right away,” he said. “I couldn’t keep the news a secret for even an hour. I called my close friend, and she didn’t believe me at first. But now that we’ve had a few hours to let it sink in, we certainly believe it and are still quite excited.”
This $50,000 POWERBALL® win is by far the man’s largest lottery win to date. Many years ago, if anyone asked him what he’d do if he won the lottery, the man would say he’d move to the mountains of North Carolina. However, today, at 82 years old—as he proudly told Lottery officials—he doesn’t have any immediate plans for his winnings beyond putting it in the bank and having a nice little nest egg as he continues his retirement.

(Dover, Del.) — The saying goes, “Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you’ll have good luck.” That’s what happened to a 49-year-old mother of two and loyal Lottery player from New Castle, Delaware, who found a penny on heads moments before she purchased the winning ticket from Riverfront Shell in Wilmington, Delaware. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, won a $100,000 top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game In the Money.
“I was sitting at my part-time job, and everyone had left for the day, so I thought it was a good time to check my ticket. I always scratch the numbers first, and initially I thought I won $100, but then I realized that’s not right,” said the winner. “Once reality set in, I was in complete shock!”
The woman told Lottery officials that the win couldn’t have come at a better time. “All I want to do is buy a house, since I don’t own one right now. I’m going to be 50 years old in December, and realized I don’t have anything to pass down to my kids. A home is a perfect thing to fix that.”
The winner noted this was her largest win to date and that she also plans to pay off her vehicle, in addition to purchasing a house. She claimed her prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover on August 22, 2016.

(Dover, Del.) — A Dover, Delaware, couple always had a dream of winning big, and now that they’ve done it, they can set the wheels in motion to give each of their four children and seven grandchildren a piece of their $150,000 Payout prize. The man and woman, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at the Stop & Shop on White Oak Road in Dover, Delaware.
“I was at home and sent my husband to get milk, and when he returned, he had a strange look on his face,” said the winner’s wife, a 68-year-old retiree. “All of a sudden, he mentioned he’s going to retire tomorrow because he just won $150,000! Needless to say, we had to go back out and get the milk because it was forgotten in all of the excitement, but it was definitely worth it.”
The woman and her husband have been playing the Lottery for many years and typically purchase tickets for POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® when the jackpots get large. This is their largest win to date, and they already have big plans for how they plan to spend their prize money.
“We plan to send each of our children a check in the mail,” she said. “With the school year approaching, they could all use extra money purchasing supplies and school clothes. Every little bit helps, and they definitely need it.”
At the time the married couple went to Delaware Lottery headquarters to claim their prize on August 4, no one else knew about the big win. The woman told Delaware Lottery officials that if her children want to know where their gift money came from, they will just have to come visit them to find out. The couple recently moved to Dover, and ever since they’ve wanted their children and grandchildren to visit—so this is the perfect way for the family to come together.

(Dover, Del.) — A Newark, Delaware, resident has set the wheels in motion to pay off her daughters’ car loans after winning $50,000 in the July 27, 2016, POWERBALL® drawing. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased her winning ticket a few days prior to the drawing at the ShopRite Chestnut Hill Plaza in Newark, Delaware.
The winner purchased two tickets for the July 27 POWERBALL®, choosing her own numbers for one ticket and the Quick Pick option for the other ticket—which turned out to be the $50,000-winning ticket.
“I had about one month’s worth of tickets built up that I hadn’t checked yet, so Saturday afternoon I went into the store to use their scanner and check those before I purchased my tickets for that night’s POWERBALL® drawing,” said the winner, who enjoys full-time work in human resources. “I thought maybe at most I’d win a couple of dollars. When the scanner showed I’d won $50,000, it took the breath right out of me. I think the counter girl thought I was having a heart attack until I showed her what had me so excited!”
After the shock wore off and she signed her winning ticket for the store clerk, the woman purchased twice as many tickets for the next POWERBALL® as she had originally planned.
“I was obviously in a good mood and felt fortune was smiling on me, so I decided to purchase $20 for Saturday night’s big POWERBALL® jackpot instead of $10,” she said. “I’m just happy and so excited. My two daughters work hard, and it’s a wonderful feeling for me to be able to surprise them by taking care of their car loans.”
At the time the woman went to Delaware Lottery headquarters to claim her prize on August 2, no one else knew about the woman’s win. She told Delaware Lottery officials she was waiting until all the paperwork was complete on the car loans before telling her daughters about her big surprise. The winner also told officials she plans to use some of her winnings to give her kitchen a little “TLC,” which will include new countertops.

(Dover, Del.) — Despite being just one number away from winning the POWERBALL® jackpot, a 49-year-old manager from Bridgeville, Delaware, is beyond thrilled with the $50,000 he won from a POWERBALL® Quick Pick purchase. The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Royal Farms in Bridgeville, Delaware.
“I check my POWERBALL® tickets roughly every three months or so,” he said. “It’s something I enjoy doing in spurts, and I typically arrive at the store with roughly 75 POWERBALL® tickets from the past few weeks. It can sometimes take me 35 minutes just to scan all the tickets, so I was used to winning a few dollars here and there.”
“When I realized I was a big winner, I had to do a double take, and swore the machine was wrong or broken. I scanned it four different times to ensure it was correct,” the winner said. “I sent my three closest friends a picture of the winning numbers, and each of them thought the pictures were fake—no one thought they were real!”
The winner told Lottery officials this is his largest win to date. He plans to use his winnings toward paying bills. “I wish it was pure play money, but paying bills is definitely a bit of relief,” he added.

(Dover, Del.) — A Wilmington, Delaware woman with “plenty” of grandchildren, now has plenty of cash to treat all of them to a little something special. The woman won the top prize of $20,000 in the Delaware Lottery’s new Instant Game, 20X on Monday, June 20, 2016. She purchased her winning ticket at the Prices Corner Acme in Wilmington.
After purchasing just one ticket, the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, returned to her car where she scratched her ticket and discovered her top-prize win.
“I was stunned and couldn’t believe it,” said the winner. “I got out my phone and called my friend thinking if I shared the news, then I could believe it. I’ve won a couple of hundred dollars before — even $500 once — but never anything even close to being as exciting as this!”
Retired from her career job and currently working part-time, the woman told Delaware Lottery officials that she’s been playing the lottery for many years but that she doesn’t have a regular schedule for playing or any special approach.
“Sometimes I pick numbers, other times I buy scratch-off tickets,” she said. “It’s something I enjoy doing in spurts and it just depends on what my mood is or if something catches my eye. I decided to buy the 20X because it was something I hadn’t seen before — I still can hardly believe it was a $20,000 ticket!”

(Dover, Del.) — A lucky 66-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware, won $288,005, the largest recorded jackpot prize for Delaware’s exclusive Lottery game, MULTI-WIN LOTTO. The previous record-high jackpot was $206,000, won in March 2011. The winner purchased two Quick Pick tickets—including the winning ticket—at Tobacco Time in Bear, Delaware, for the April 11 drawing.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been playing MULTI-WIN LOTTO since the game’s start in 2005 and said this is her largest win to date.
The winner, a mother of two, told Lottery officials that her winning ticket was actually a mistake.
“I always purchase just one MULTI-WIN ticket the day before the drawing but mistakenly bought another MULTI-WIN ticket the day of the drawing,” she explained. “I stopped at Tobacco Time on Monday, the day of the drawing, and asked Joe [the store clerk] to give me a MULTI-WIN ticket and a scratch-off ticket. Joe knows my process for buying tickets and said to me, ‘You already bought a MULTI-WIN ticket yesterday. Are you sure you want to buy another one?’ And I said why not, just give it to me. Well, that was the best mistake I made, because that ticket ended up being my winning ticket!”
The winner recalls how she found out about her jackpot win. “I got up very early the next morning to check the winning numbers, and all of the numbers looked very familiar,” she said. “I called the Lottery to confirm the numbers and couldn’t believe that I won. It was such an awesome feeling. I told my sisters about the win, and they were ecstatic.”
“I then called Joe at Tobacco Time, whom I’ve known for about 10 years, to tell him I won, and he was so excited for me,” she said.

(Dover, Del.) — Three nurses at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware, are feeling “well taken care of,” thanks to winning $100,000 by playing a POWERBALL® Quick Pick with Power Play. The three winners—Michael Spinazzola, Donna Chunn and Loretta Edwards—purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven in Rehoboth, Delaware.
The co-workers started playing as a group in December 2015, at the encouragement of Spinazzola, who is a regular Lottery player. Spinazzola normally purchases eight tickets for the POWERBALL® with Power Play at the beginning of the month, and then checks them at the end of the month.
“I’d been playing longer than the others and thought it would be fun to play as a group,” said Spinazzola, who plans on banking most of his winnings. “The day we won, I heard that someone purchased a $100,000 POWERBALL® ticket at the same 7-Eleven I purchased ours, but I really didn’t think anything of it. I just went about my day and checked the numbers later that evening at home like I usually do. I couldn’t believe it when I saw we won. I made the clerk check and double-check to assure me!”
After getting reassured of the win, Spinazzola called his two co-winners immediately.
“I was cooking when Mike called. I don’t know if I was in denial or the noises from my kitchen muffled his words, but I was certain Mike said we won $100, so I suggested he just roll that $100 back into future ticket purchases,” said Chunn, who intends to put her winnings in the bank. “When it finally sank in that we won $100,000, I was so excited I went outside shouting the news. Needless to say, the food on the stove got ruined, but certainly that little mishap couldn’t put a damper on us winning big like this!”
Edwards had a slightly different experience when she received the news from Spinazzola.
“Mike will say anything to set someone up on a date. So, when he called me all excited, I thought he was trying to get me over to his house to set me up with someone,” said Edwards, who plans on using part of her winnings to buy a new lawn tractor. “When I got there, it was evident he wasn’t joking... This was no setup... We had won $100,000!”
The three nurses will split their winnings evenly, so each person will take home $33,333 (less 25% federal tax). All three came to claim their prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on March 16.

(Dover, Del.) — A 23-year-old collision repairman from Sussex County, Delaware, scratched his way to a top prize of $250,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s new Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. This is the first time a player has won a top prize playing Quarter Million Large since the game’s debut in February 2016. The winning ticket was purchased at the De-Lux Dairy Market in Seaford, Delaware.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, started playing the Lottery about four months ago. On the day of the lucky purchase, the winner was with his father who bought two tickets. The father told Lottery Officials that he normally buys the last two tickets in a pack but decided to purchase the first two tickets this time. Once they arrived home, the father and son each scratched one ticket. The 23-year-old methodically scratched off each number until he reached the last one, believing that he had won a lower prize of $250.
“I started with the first layer on the ticket and just kept scratching the numbers off, one by one,” he said. “When I finally got to the last number, I realized that one of my numbers matched. The prize shown said $250.”
It was when the winner showed his father the ticket that they both realized he didn’t scratch off the ticket all the way and that he had actually won $250,000. “I was so shocked. I think I was in disbelief,” the man said. “My mom came into the room where my dad and I were, and we all just started celebrating. I felt so blessed.”
The winner told Lottery officials that he has no intention of letting this money change his life. He plans to invest the money and continue working.
“I’m definitely not going to make any crazy purchases. I’m going to hold onto it,” he said. “I’m still going to have the same goals and go to work every day.”

(Dover, Del.) — A 46-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware learned an exciting lesson in “reinvestment” this week when she won $10,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, Quarter Million Large. She “reinvested” money she had won from another Quarter Million Large win to purchase her $10,000-winning ticket at Airport News & Tobacco in New Castle.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, originally purchased two Quarter Million Large tickets at the store. “There were two slots for the Quarter Million Large tickets so I bought one ticket out of each slot,” said the hairdresser. “I won $500 from one ticket and decided to use some of that money to buy a third ticket from the slot where I didn’t win.”
The woman returned to her car and scratched off that third ticket while sitting in the parking lot. To her amazement, she discovered she had won $10,000.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was in total shock,” she said. “I like to play the Lottery to win big, and this certainly is big—by far my largest win to date! I’m so glad I decided to buy that third ticket.”
At the time she claimed her prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on March 14, the woman had yet to tell anyone about her success. She plans to use the majority of her winnings responsibly, which includes paying off some of her current bills.

“I normally buy Lottery tickets on Fridays and then will scan them at the store the next Friday,” the man explained. “When I scanned my ticket at 301 Plaza back in September, I didn’t believe that I won. I thought I won $1,000 at first so I had the store clerk scan it again to confirm. It was a nice surprise when the clerk told me that I’d really won $10,000.”
The first person the man told about the win was his wife. “She was pretty surprised when I told her I won $10,000 for the second time,” he said.
The winner told Lottery Officials that he and his wife found out about the winning ticket in September but decided to wait to cash the ticket due to tax reasons. “We’ve been keeping the ticket in a safe all this time, which was definitely a hard thing to do,” the man said.
The man, who said he will continue to play the Delaware Lottery, claimed his $10,000 prize (less 25% federal tax) at Delaware Lottery Headquarters in Dover with his wife on February 26, 2016. The couple said they plan to put the winnings into their bank account.
“We’re very happy about this win,” the man added. “It’s a little bit to pay for a big surprise.”

The winner, who is a regular Lottery player, said this is her largest win to date. “I normally buy my Lottery tickets at Airport News & Tobacco, and that day there were three Lottery tickets at the register,” she said. “I bought two tickets but didn’t win anything. The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that he normally plays instant games and has won before, but decided to play the POWERBALL® since the jackpot was at an estimated annuity of $1.5 billion.
The man woke up early on Thursday morning to see if any of his tickets matched the winning numbers. “I watched the news the night before and memorized the numbers,” he said. “I had all of my tickets on the kitchen counter that morning and the first number I was looking for was the POWERBALL®. When asked how he will spend the winnings, the man jokingly said, “We’re going to Disney World!”
The winner told Lottery officials that he and his wife just got married in October and couldn’t go on a honeymoon right away. “We’ll probably use this money to go to Florida or the islands to celebrate our honeymoon,” he said.

(Dover, Del.) — A group of 63 employees from One Main Financial in Wilmington, Delaware, are going home a little richer. A ticket purchased by the office pool correctly matched four of the five white ball numbers and the POWERBALL® to win a third prize of $50,000 in Saturday night’s POWERBALL® drawing. Price said he has played Lottery games regularly since 2008, but this was the first time he tried the PLATINUM 7 instant game. The most money he had previously won in a Lottery game was $500.
He redeemed his winning ticket on January 8 at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover.
Price told Lottery officials that he plans to put his winnings in the bank.

(Dover, Del.) — A 59-year-old sales employee and mother of three from Millsboro, Delaware, won $50,000 from a POWERBALL® Quick Pick purchase on January 2, 2016. The winner bought her winning ticket at Food Lion in Millsboro, Delaware.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said this is her first Lottery win. “I don’t play the Lottery that often and just decided to buy a ticket on a whim,” she said. “When I checked the numbers on my phone and saw quite a few of my numbers matched, I called my husband right away and told him to come home to double-check my ticket!”
The winner won by matching four of the first five numbers and the POWERBALL®.
“The result of this prize is due to the POWERBALL® redesign that went into effect in October 2015 with changes aimed at delivering big jackpots while upping other significant prizes in the game,” said Vernon Kirk, Director, Delaware Lottery. “The game’s redesign increased the third prize level—which the woman won—from $10,000 to $50,000.”
The woman claimed her $50,000 prize (less 25% federal tax) at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on January 5, 2016 with her husband. She told Lottery Officials that she plans to pay off some credit cards and other bills with her winnings. “I’m so thrilled that I won and I’ll definitely play the Lottery again,” she added.
