(Dover, Del.)—Myrai Johnson, a 79-year-old retired state employee from Wilmington, Delaware, has ended 2015 on a high note after winning $10,000 from Delaware Lottery’s KENO®. She purchased the lucky ticket at James and Jesse’s Barber in Wilmington on December 23.
Myrai told Lottery officials that she is a regular Lottery player and this is her largest win to date. “I have won the Lottery before but nothing as large as this,” she said excitedly. “When I found out I won, I was in absolute shock—I had to run to the bathroom,” she laughed.
The first people she told about the win were her two granddaughters, who accompanied her to claim her prize. “I was so happy when Mom-Mom told me she won,” said one of Myrai’s granddaughters. “I don’t play the Lottery myself, so it’s very exciting when someone you know wins!”
Myrai said this win has already changed her life and she plans to use some of the money to pay her bills. She collected her $10,000 prize (less 25% federal tax) at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on December 28, 2015.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said this is her biggest Lottery win to date. “I don’t play the Lottery that often, but always hope to win something when I do,” she said. “When I scratched off the ticket at home, I was very calm because I didn’t think I won.”
She told Lottery Officials that she will continue to play the Lottery and hopes to win again. The woman doesn’t have any big plans for the money but will purchase some holiday gifts, including a new leash for her dog. (Dover, Del.)—A married couple of 59 years from Felton, Delaware, struck gold after winning $15,000 from the Delaware Lottery’s Gold 7 Instant Game. They purchased the winning ticket from the Rodney Village Shore Stop in Dover.
The retired couple, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials they normally purchase Mega Million® tickets but decided to buy the Gold 7 ticket that day.
“I bought two Gold 7 tickets in September—one for myself and one for my son-in-law,” said the woman. “I didn’t win anything, but my son-in-law won $80. Since then, I’ve been keeping my eyes out for a Gold 7 ticket. So when my husband and I were out shopping, he saw the ticket and decided to buy it. Let’s just say I’m glad he bought it!”
The duo scratched off the ticket in their car and couldn’t believe they won. “Our first thought was, ‘This can’t be true,’” they said. “We kept on looking at the ticket and asking ourselves if we really won. In disbelief, we put the ticket in our car’s glove compartment and drove to the Lottery office.”
Once the Lottery confirmed they won, the couple told Lottery officials this is their largest win to date. They plan to use the money to pay bills and put the rest away. “We also plan on telling our four daughters about the win, and I know they will be through the moon,” said the man.
The husband and wife collected their $15,000 prize at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on December 11, 2015.

(Dover, Del.)—A 57-year-old retired Delmarva Power employee from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, won $50,004 playing the POWERBALL® on November 4, 2015. The man purchased his winning ticket at 3rd Base Liquors in Frederica, Delaware.
He discovered his win after checking his numbers online. “I left my tickets in my car and the numbers that I saw on the computer looked very familiar,” said the winner, who played a Quick Pick and selected the POWERBALL® number. “Once I realized I won, my body went numb. I’ve been playing the Lottery on and off for about 30 years, and this is my largest win.”
Still in disbelief that he won, the man stopped at the Safeway in Dover to scan his ticket before claiming his prize at the Lottery office. “A woman at Safeway saw me scanning my ticket and asked me if I won $5,000. When I told her that it was actually $50,004, she was all giggly,” he added.
The winner matched four white balls plus the POWERBALL® on one line and matched the POWERBALL® on another line to win $50,004. The result of this prize is due to the POWERBALL® redesign that went into effect on October 4, 2015. Players now choose their first five numbers from a set of 69 (previously 59) white balls and their POWERBALL® from a pool of 26 (previously 35) red balls. In addition to this change, the game’s third prize level received a five-fold increase from $10,000 to $50,000 for matching four of the first five numbers and the POWERBALL®.
The man claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on November 6, 2015. He told Lottery officials that he hasn’t spoken to anyone about his win yet, but plans to give his grandson a nice Christmas with the winnings. “My life isn’t going to change dramatically, but I am extremely humbled to have won,” said the winner.

(Dover, Del.)—A 66-year-old Bear, Delaware, man received quite a shock after approaching a clerk with what he thought was a $1,000-winning Keno® ticket. The clerk at the 24/7 Food Mart on Pulaski Highway in Glasgow, Delaware—where the winner purchased the ticket on November 1, 2015—politely corrected the gentleman, telling him that he had, in fact, won $10,000.
“I looked on the screen, saw I won, and believed it was for $1,000, which made me happy,” said the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “When she told me I had won ten times as much... well, I was beyond happy at that point!”
The man has been a regular Delaware Lottery player throughout its history, having purchased his very first Delaware Lottery ticket in 1975. While his $10,000 Keno® win is not his only win, it is his largest win in 40 years. His reason for purchasing three Keno® tickets on the day of his big win was pretty straight forward.
“I’m looking for money,” said the man. “I have a mortgage to pay, student loans for my kids... this money will go a long way.”
After discovering he had won $10,000 playing Keno®, the man shared the news with his wife, who immediately asked excitedly if he had won the POWERBALL®.
“When I told her I won in Keno®, nothing changed—she was still happy and excited with such a substantial victory,” said the winner. “I didn’t tell her, but I plan to set some of the $10,000 aside for her.”
The man told Lottery Officials he also plans to use the money to help pay bills and his children’s student loans. He collected his $10,000 prize at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on November 5, 2015.

(Dover, Del.)—A 63-year-old married retiree from Bridgeville, Delaware, won $25,010 playing Delaware Lottery’s Mega Millions Megaplier. The man, who has been playing the Lottery regularly for 25 years, told officials that this is his biggest win to date. He purchased the Quick Pick ticket at Royal Farms in Harrington, Delaware, on October 30.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that he stopped at Royal Farms on a whim because he was thirsty. “I wasn’t really planning on buying Lottery tickets but decided to since I was already there,” said the man. “I usually buy tickets wherever it happens to be convenient, and I always buy five tickets.”
The man paid an extra dollar per play for the Megaplier. The Megaplier multiplies a cash prize 2, 3, 4, or 5 times up to $5 million cash. The Megaplier on October 30, 2015 was a five. If he had not purchased the multiplier, his win would have only been $5,002. He matched four white balls plus the Megaball for $5,000. He also matched one white ball plus the Megaball for $2.
He checked the winning numbers once he got home. When he realized that he had won, the first person he told was his wife of 45 years.
“My wife and I were getting ready to go away for the weekend when I decided to look at the Lottery numbers on my phone,” he said. “I honestly couldn’t believe that I won.”
When asked how he will use the money, the man said he will pay off his daughter’s college loan. “We were already planning on paying for it, but it’s nice that we can take care of it sooner rather than later,” he said.
The man told Lottery officials that he is thankful. “We are very blessed already. I’m happy to have won but this isn’t going to change anything in our life,” said the man. “I told my wife that I love her just as much as I did before the win.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that he plays the Lottery regularly and will usually purchase one ticket in the morning. He told Lottery officials that his daughter’s birthday is in four days and he plans to buy her whatever she wants with the winnings. He also plans to buy a new car and something for his girlfriend. “I am so happy and grateful that I won,” the man said. “This win has already changed my life.”

(Dover, Del.) - For the second time in his sixty years, a Newark, Del., man has won big playing the POWERBALL® with POWER PLAY® on his birthday. His most recent win occurred on his milestone sixtieth birthday, when the June 10, 2015 POWERBALL® with POWER PLAY® drawing resulted in a $20,000 winning ticket. The man purchased his winning ticket on June 10 at the Skyway One on Old Baltimore Pike in Newark, Del. He discovered his $20,000 “birthday gift” the morning after the drawing when he checked his numbers online, then returned to the retailer for confirmation.
“I was so surprised, I didn't believe it at first, so I went to the store to scan it,” said the winner, a professional in the IT field. “I then shared the news with my uncle, and he couldn't believe it either - especially since I won on my birthday once before.”
The man's first significant birthday win occurred several years ago with prizes totaling $12,500 when he played his birth year. This time, however, he utilized the Quick Pick options because he was close to the deadline for purchasing tickets for that night's drawing.
The winner has been playing POWERBALL® weekly for approximately twenty years, and plans to continue his routine.
“They say good things come in three's; maybe then I'm entitled to another big birthday win down the road!”
The man claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on June 12. He told Lottery Officials that he plans to use the $20,000 to pay off his two sons' student loans so they can “get off on the right foot” in their careers, one as a math teacher at Delaware Technical Community College, and the other in the Philadelphia Police Academy.

(Dover, Del.) - After twenty-six years of service in the Colonial School District, a Middletown, Del. woman got an “education” in the power of giving the gift of Delaware Lottery Instant Games! Among ten Delaware Lottery tickets given to the woman by a friend as a retirement gift was a 5X THE CASH Instant Game ticket delivering the top-prize of $15,000. The friend purchased the winning ticket at the Airport News & Tobacco on DuPont Highway in Newport, Del.
“I retired Friday, May 29. My children threw me a retirement party on Saturday, but it wasn't until Sunday after things settled down that I sat down to scratch off the tickets,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “I was thrilled with the $88 I won from the other tickets, but wasn't quite sure what to make of the tenth ticket. I would look at it, then put it down, then look at it again. Finally, I decided to set it aside until my husband came home.”
After the winner's husband looked at the ticket, the couple decided to go to a nearby lottery Retailer to redeem the $88 in tickets and inquire about the other. The Retailer paid the winner for the $88 in winnings from the other tickets, but told the couple they needed to go to Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover for the other.
“I didn't believe it at first when he told us we had won $15,000,” said the woman. “But here we are now holding the check in our hands and it's real. I play the POWERBALL® now and then, but never really play Instant Games. I think now, I might play more often!”
“We give Instant Game tickets as gifts pretty often,” said the husband. “I used to think maybe we were 'cheaping out' on gift giving… tickets are inexpensive to give. But now, I don't think that. When you consider the fun people have scratching the tickets, not to mention the potential of winning, it's a pretty nice gift.”
The winner and her husband claimed her $15,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Thursday, June 4, 2015. At the time, the couple hadn't had time to decide what to do with the money, although, upon hearing the news, one of their three adult children suggested a family vacation to Disney World for the winning couple their children and six grandchildren. The friend who gave the gift said she hoped the winner used the money to something for herself.

The winner, who works for her fiancé's construction company, said the good fortune couldn't have come at a better time, as she inherited a boat from her father that needs fixing, and after a recent fire, she and her future husband need to repair their home.
“I am ecstatic for my daughter, she deserves this,” said the winner's mother, who was visiting from Butte, Mont. “I was just visiting, but after the win I started thinking, gee, I DO like Delaware!”
The winner has been playing Delaware Lottery Instant Games regularly since December, her first experience being when her uncle gave her a few tickets as a thank-you gift. In addition to her 5X THE CASH win, in February the woman won the top prize of $4,000 in the Delaware Lottery's I (HEART) CASH Instant Game.
“When I won the $4,000 I said to myself I was going to keep playing,” said the winner. “I work hard, and I work a lot. Playing the lottery is a nice little gift I give to myself to enjoy.”
The winner claimed her $15,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

(Dover, Del.) - A 56 year old Lewes, Del. resident and avid fisherman “reeled in the big one” on Friday, May 29, 2015, winning one of the top prizes of $50,000 in the Delaware Lottery's MAKE MY YEAR Instant Game. The man had stopped in the General Store in Lewes, Del. to purchase MEGA MILLIONS® tickets for that night's drawing, when he saw the MAKE MY YEAR scratch off game. Listening to an earlier premonition of his, he decided to buy a single MAKE MY YEAR ticket, which ended up being the $50,000-winning ticket.
“Exactly two weeks before, I had a dream I picked up a lucky coin that lead to me winning the big one,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous. “When I saw the MAKE MY YEAR ticket hanging in the General Store, I just had a feeling it was related to the dream, so I bought one. Then it happened, the Lottery really did make my year!”
After making his purchase, the man returned to his car to scratch off the ticket. He initially thought he won $50, and returned to the store, where he finished scratching off the ticket to discover he had won $50,000. According to customers and General Store employees, the man turned as white as a ghost, started shaking, and worried them so much they called 9-1-1.
“They thought I was having a heart attack,” said the winner. “I was so deep in shock. From the General Store I headed to work at the bait-and-tackle shop, and my supervisor took one look at me and knew something was up. She gave me the night off to celebrate and calm down. It's three days later and I'm still in shock!”
The man has been playing the lottery regularly for nearly forty years; however, he rarely plays Instant Games, preferring POWERBALL®, MEGA MILLIONS®, HOT LOTTO®, and more recently, LUCKY FOR LIFE™. While the top $50,000 prize in MAKE MY YEAR is by far his biggest win, this past April the man also had a significant win of $10,000 playing the lottery.
The winner claimed his $50,00 prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Monday, June 1. He plans to use some of his winnings to give his daughter a “very big envelope” at her wedding this fall, take care of some needed dental work, repair his roof and possibly treat himself to a fishing trip to Key West, Fla. The remainder he will put into a savings account.

Both winners wished to remain anonymous.
“While everyone who comes in to claim a top prize is visibly excited and happy, not everyone is ready to share their story; some are still a little in shock,” said, Barbara Hutchins, Assistant Director, Traditional Games, Delaware Lottery. “Still, we're taking the time to announce their wins as a way of thanking them for supporting the Lottery, as well as to keep our community aware of the many ways the Lottery is making an impact on the lives of their neighbors.”

(Dover, Del.) - Thomas Wegman brought in the most memorable haul of his tri-state trucking career this spring, scratching off the top prize of $50,000 on a Delaware Lottery “Pay Me! $50,000” Instant Game ticket. The Georgetown, DE resident's win was also the final top-prize remaining for “Pay Me! $50,000.” Mr. Wegman purchased just one ticket - the winning ticket - the morning of April 18, 2015 at Bodie's Market in Millsboro, DE.
“I scratched it off, initially thinking I had won $50” said the forty-four year old Wegner. “But when I scanned it at the store and saw $50,000 I thought to myself “I don't think this is right!”
The first person that he shared the great news with was his preacher. Wegner told Delaware Lottery officials he prefers instant games and has been playing “forever,” and this is his biggest win to date. He intends to use his winnings towards a down payment on a new home.
Wegner claimed his $50,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Monday, April 20.

(Dover, Del.) - After using the ATM at a local convenience store, an 87-year-old man had a feeling it may be his lucky day, purchased a Delaware Lottery “Pay Me! $100,000” Instant Game ticket and emerged the winner of the game's $100,000 top prize. The Delaware resident purchased his winning ticket on Sunday, April 13, 2015 at the DOT Discount Cigarette Outlet in the Mason Dixon Shopping Center in Selbyville, DE. He scratched off his ticket while still at the store where he purchased it, but didn't discover his major win until several minutes later.
“I thought I had won $100, so I went back to the clerk to cash it in,” said the winner who currently enjoys retirement. “She scanned my ticket, let out a little shriek and said she couldn't cash my ticket. When she told me why, I thought I was going to faint!”
The winner first told his daughter, one of the man's three children, who also screamed then sagely advised her father not to spend it all immediately. One day after his win, the man had yet to tell his other daughter, son and seven grandchildren.
“I have a lot of family to tell; but I don't think I'll get tired of doing it! A day later and I'm still a little shaky - this is the most money I've ever had.”
The winner told Delaware Lottery officials that this was by far his largest win playing the lottery, and that his first plans for the money will be to pay medical bills from recent surgeries. He also indicated that he buys Instant Game tickets whenever he gets the "quirk" in his mind that he may be lucky, which is approximately once a week.
Tired, yet still very excited, the winner claimed his $100,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Monday, April 13, saying, “I was so excited and still in shock a little, I was awake all night.”

(Dover, Del.) - While many were pulling practical jokes on April 1, 2015, one Middletown resident was 'business as usual,' as he made his weekly Delaware Lottery ticket purchase, which resulted in a $25,000 MEGA MILLIONS® win. The man purchased his MEGA MILLIONS® with Megaplier® ticket at Shore Stop on Summit Bridge Road in Middletown. Adding the Megaplier® option to his ticket for an extra dollar was a fortunate decision that increased his winnings by $20,000 (from $5,000 to $25,000). He discovered his win the morning after the April 3, 2015 drawing.
“I purchased my ticket Wednesday (April 1), the drawing was Friday night and I checked my numbers first thing Saturday morning,” said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “I thought I had won, but I still had to check it three or four more times before I believed it.”
The man, an engineer, told his wife immediately. The couple then woke up their teenage son and daughter, and the family marked what may be their happiest 7AM Saturday wakeup call to date!
