(Dover, Del.) — A 58-year-old senior locksmith at University of Delaware is grateful that he finally remembered to check the POWERBALL® tickets he purchased at the Newark Shore Stop on Old Baltimore Pike on December 19, 2014, for the following night’s drawing. One of the tickets turned out to be $10,004 winner.
“I had no idea that I had a winning ticket in my possession for that long!” the Newark man said. The lucky winner scanned his tickets the week of January 5 and claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on Monday, January 12.
The winner told Lottery Officials that he has purchased POWERBALL, MULTI-WIN LOTTO and MEGA MILLIONS tickets every week for the past 22 years using the same numbers (peoples’ birthdays), but has never won anything significant.
“Occasionally when I win a couple of dollars I will ask the clerk for a Quick Pick POWERBALL, MULTI-WIN LOTTO or MEGA MILLIONS ticket,” he said.
This routine is how our winner won his $10,004. He used $3 he won on a previous POWERBALL ticket to purchase his winning POWERBALL Quick Pick ticket.
“I was shocked when I scanned my ticket,” the Newark man said. “I couldn’t believe it and my fiancée didn’t believe me when I told her!” He plans to put the winnings toward their destination wedding and will continue to play his favorite Delaware Lottery draw games weekly.

(Dover, Del.) DECEMBER 16, 2014 — On Friday, December 12, a sixty-year-old Delaware resident walked into Lynch Heights Fuel Corp. in Milford looking to buy a lottery ticket and walked out looking to keep his $40,000 winning-ticket safe until he could claim it Monday morning. A regular weekly lottery player, the man's recent win was the top-prize for the Delaware Lottery's “STRAIGHT UP 7's” $10 Instant Game.
The man scratched his ticket immediately after purchase and realized that he won something. However, having already won $10,000 on an Instant Game in 2007, he didn't think he'd be that lucky again. To his surprise, when he gave his winning “STRAIGHT UP 7's” ticket to the clerk, he discovered he exceeded his previous highest-win four times over. Upon learning of the $40,000 prize, the man literally jumped for joy, thanked the clerk and drove home to put the ticket in a safe place and tell his wife.
“Honestly we were both in shock,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous. “Now, we officially believe it since we have our check in hand.”
The winner told Lottery officials he plans to use the money to pay off debt, do some Christmas shopping and get new tires. He claimed his $40,000 top prize at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on Monday, December 15, 2014.

(Dover, Del.)— (December 2, 2014) – A forty-four-year-old State of Delaware employee experienced the surprise of a lifetime the day after Thanksgiving. He returned to the 7-Eleven in Rehoboth Beach on Friday, November 28, where he purchased two MULTI-WIN LOTTO tickets earlier that week (Wednesday) to purchase a POWERBALL® ticket. (Dover, Del.)— A 59-year-old metal sheet mechanic from Linwood, Pa., received an early present in the form of $20,000. The lucky man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his WIN IT ALL top prize-winning Instant ticket from Ridge Liquors in Claymont on Tuesday, December 2.
A regular player, the man stopped at the lottery retailer on his way home from work to make his daily purchase of Instant Games. He bought three $2 JUMBO BUCKS tickets and one $5 WIN IT ALL ticket, which turned out to be a top-prize winner. He scratched off his tickets in front of the store using his lucky 1955 nickel.
“1955 is the year I was born. It’s the only coin I use to scratch my tickets,” the lucky man said.
The man initially thought he won $20 on the WIN IT ALL ticket. “I saw the $20, and then I realized there was a comma and three zeros after it,” he said. “I had to review the ticket carefully. Last time I thought I won $50,000 with the Pennsylvania Lottery on a scratch off and it turned out that I only won $50. I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice!”
The winner claimed his $20,000 prize at Lottery headquarters on Thursday, December 4. When asked what he plans on doing with the money, he told Lottery Officials, “First, I’m going to buy a new pair of work boots. I stepped on a nail and now I have a hole in the ones I have now. They’re not waterproof anymore!” He said he also plans on giving his family a good Christmas and will put the remaining money into savings.
He also told Lottery Officials that he will continue to play Instant Games daily. “I stopped at my favorite retailer the day after I won (Wednesday) and purchased two tickets and won $5 on each,” he said.

(Dover, Del.)— Choosing to add the Sizzler option to his HOT LOTTO® ticket proved to be a fortunate decision for a 72-year-old New Castle resident on August 16, 2014. The lucky man’s ticket correctly matched four of the five winning numbers and the Hot Ball and because he chose the Sizzler option, he tripled the $3,000 set cash prize, winning a total of $9,000. The retired man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his Quick Pick HOT LOTTO ticket with Sizzler for that night’s drawing from the Super G located at the Eden Square Shopping Center in Bear.
The man, who frequently plays the lottery, returned to the same store to scan his winning ticket. He said, “I enjoy playing all of the draw games every week and I always use the Quick Pick option. I’m extremely excited that I won!”
The winner also told Lottery Officials that this isn’t his first Delaware Lottery win. The lucky man won $40,000 in January 2008. His plan is to pay a few bills with his prize-winnings and continue playing his favorite lottery games.

(Dover, Del.)— An 83-year-old Lewes resident found out that the second time is a charm after hitting the MULTI-WIN LOTTO top prize on August 4, 2014. He initially won $10 on a ticket he purchased for the August 1st drawing and he used those winnings to purchase five tickets for Monday night’s drawing at Hazzard’s Savannah Stop on Savannah Road in Lewes. That additional ticket purchase resulted in a top-prize win worth $118,100.
The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, plays MULTI-WIN LOTTO regularly and always uses the Quick Pick option. He says, “MULTI-WIN LOTTO has always been a lucky game for me. In fact, before this big win, I won $1,100 and $500 twice.”
At 8:05 p.m. after the 7:57 p.m. drawing, while at home with his wife and nephew, he called the Lottery’s toll-free number to check his numbers. He told them, “Who cares, the winner’s not going to be me.” To their surprise, the man was holding the top prize-winning ticket in his hand! The five winning numbers (05 12 13 26 29 33) he heard on the phone matched the five numbers on his ticket. He hung up and then immediately asked his nephew to call the same number to verify that he was indeed a winner. Both he and his wife were in disbelief when their nephew told them they were right.
The check was picked up from Lottery Headquarters on Tuesday, August 5. The first thing the lucky winner wanted to do was call his wife to confirm they had won before depositing the check at the bank and making plans to purchase a small SUV. Upon leaving the Lottery Headquarters, he announced, “I’m glad I moved to Delaware [in 1986].”

(Dover, Del.)— A group of six former coworkers in New Jersey learned about their $10,000 stroke of luck last week during a typical workday. A fellow winner from the pool stepped in and assured her that she was not seeing double and that they had actually won! The office was automatically abuzz with excitement and chatter.
She said, “Everyone was so pumped we couldn’t believe we won POWERBALL®, we play all the time!”

(Dover, Del.) — Just three days before her 80th birthday, a 79-year-old retired woman from Wilmington, Del., hit the jackpot and received an early birthday present of $52,001 from a DELAWARE CASH 5® ticket purchase she made for the evening drawing that took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials she typically likes to play many of the Delaware Lottery’s games, but on this particular occasion, she purchased just one ticket – DELAWARE CASH 5 – from Boyd’s Corner Liquors in Middletown. (Dover, Del.) — A 72-year-old woman from Wilmington, Del., was doing some shopping on Friday, April 18, 2014, when she decided to stop at Plaza Liquors located on Newport Gap Pike to purchase a lottery ticket. Her decision turned out to be a lucky one. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, won a $15,000 top prize playing the Instant Game, Black Opal 7s that she had bought from Plaza Liquors that very day.
The fortunate woman told Lottery officials that she immediately scratched-off the ticket when she arrived home.

Black Opal 7s was the only lottery ticket she purchased from the store, but the woman also told Lottery officials that this was the second time this month she had been lucky playing the Delaware Lottery.
“I won $5,000 earlier this month,” [April 1] she said. “I was coming back from visiting my daughter downstate who was having surgery.”
The woman then proceeded to tell Lottery Officials that she bought a $1 Play 4® ticket from Books & Tobacco located on Kirkwood Highway for the evening drawing that was held on April 1. She picked her daughter’s hospital room numbers and got lucky when those very same numbers were drawn in exact order to win straight in a line and a total of $5,000.
Speaking to her recent win, the woman said she has not told anyone yet about her $15,000 prize from playing Black Opal 7s.
“I’ve kept it a secret for now because I have six kids, 21 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, with a thirteenth on the way in June!” she said with a smile.
The lucky woman does have plans for her top prize winnings, however.
“There is a trip I want to go on in September to Maine,” she said. “About 30 of us… a big Irish group, will usually get together.”

(Dover, Del.) — A 59-year-old woman from Georgetown, Del., who wished to remain anonymous, won a top prize of $182,100 from a MULTI-WIN LOTTO ticket she purchased at Liquor Plus in Georgetown on April 7, 2014, for that evening’s drawing. The $182,100 MULTI-WIN LOTTO top prize was the second largest top prize in the history of the MULTI-WIN LOTTO game. The last MULTI-WIN LOTTO top prize of $128,009 was won on October 30, 2013.
Additionally, the Delaware Lottery had a total of 3,987 winners who won prizes totaling more than $16,000 in the MULTI-WIN LOTTO drawing that took place on April 7.
At Delaware Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, the MULTI WIN LOTTO top prizewinner told Lottery officials that she used the Delaware Lottery’s “Quick Pick” option to select her numbers of 15, 19, 27, 30, 31 and 35 to win in a line.
The winner also said she purchased three tickets in total from Liquor Plus: one MULTI-WIN LOTTO and two PLAY 4® tickets. Her favorite games to play she said are “MULTI-WIN LOTTO, MEGA MILLIONS® and HOT LOTTO® with Sizzler®, but I like to play all the games when I can,” she said.
The woman said she learned of her big win the very next morning when she went to another Lottery retailer to purchase some Instant Game tickets.
“I put my ticket [MULTI-WIN LOTTO] under the Quick Scan at the clerk counter because I like to check the tickets myself,” she said.
After seeing that her numbers matched the winning numbers displayed on the screen, the woman said, “I was happy as a lark! I was standing there in shock and thought to myself, ‘I know I didn’t just see those numbers come up!’”
Overcome with joy, the woman went on to say, “I’ve never won anything like this in my life, but there’s a first time for everything,” she said.
Afterward, the woman said she handed her ticket over to the clerk at the liquor store counter to check the ticket one more time.
“I think the he [the clerk] was more excited that I won!” she said. “He kept saying, ‘She’s the one that won!’”
The fortunate woman recounted a previous time she had been lucky with the Delaware Lottery. “My husband, who is now deceased, liked to play the numbers 3-2-1, so years back I won $500 playing those numbers on a PLAY 3® ticket,” she said.
After receiving her $182,100 winnings, the woman said the first thing she would do with her prize winnings was to buy a new bed among other things.
“I have a tiny bed now and always wanted a king-size bed!” she said with excitement. “I may move out of my apartment and give my grandchildren some of the winnings. Also, my one granddaughter needs a new car,” she said.
The woman claimed her $182,100 MULTI-WIN LOTTO top prize on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover.Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $4.1 billion to the state’s General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. (Dover, Del.) — A 65-year-old retired Delaware native has now an extra $50,000 to add to his retirement savings from a recent POWERBALL® win. The gentleman, who wished to remain anonymous, won $50,000 playing POWERBALL with Power Play®. The winning numbers from the April 5 drawing were 11, 21, 26, 33 and 34. The Power Ball number was 29 and the Power Play number was five.
The man told Lottery officials that he purchased his winning ticket at the Delaware Cigarette & Tobacco Outlet located at 611 Governors Square in Bear, Del. For an additional $1, the man chose the Power Play option on his playslip and then used the Delaware Lottery’s Quick Pick option to generate his numbers.
Both decisions certainly proved to be lucky. The man successfully matched four out of the five winning numbers in addition to matching the Power Ball number for a $10,000 win. Because the man chose the Power Play option, he multiplied his winnings by five times the amount for a total win of $50,000.
After realizing his good fortune, the man went back to the store to verify his ticket with the clerk. His first reaction to the confirmation of his win was “Wow!” The man also stated that he could not believe his luck, so he asked the clerk to check the ticket just one more time to be sure.
The man said he’s been playing Delaware Lottery games since the Lottery first began in 1975 and typically will purchase three tickets about once a week. According to the man, his favorite games to play are Play 3®, Play 4®, POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®. This was the first time he had won such a significant amount playing the lottery.
Hoping for another win in the future, the man said he would continue his tradition of playing the lottery once a week. He will also use some of his recent winnings to pay off bills and make some home improvements. He claimed his $50,000 prize at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on April 7, 2014. The man told Lottery officials that he often likes to play lottery games. Therefore, he decided to pick up a ticket during his beach vacation on October 5 from Bethany Beach’s Shore Stop located on Garfield Parkway. He used the Delaware Lottery’s Quick Pick option to pick his numbers, which resulted in a $10,000 win when four of his numbers successfully matched the winning numbers. The Power Ball number was also a match.
It wasn’t until a few months later that the man realized his good fortune after checking his numbers online. The man also noted this was the first time he had won such a large amount from playing the lottery.

(Dover, Del.) — A 53-year-old, self-employed, produce business owner, from Cochranville, Pa., was able to produce a win of $357 inside the Delaware Lottery Money Machine during a halftime promotion at the Delaware 87ers basketball game held Friday, March 21, 2014.
Bobby Starkey, owner at Capital Specialties in Pennsylvania, was attending the Delaware 87ers game with his family on March 21, when he became the lucky season ticket holder randomly selected for entry into the Delaware Lottery Money Machine.
Mr. Starkey said he had come to the game that evening to not only watch the NBA D-league, the “Sevens,” play basketball, but to watch his two sons, who are both “ball boys,” for the team he said.
“It’s a family-friendly atmosphere and a very high-level of basketball that’s right in our own backyards,” he continued. “My son, in just one-week of being a ball boy for the Sevens, was able to meet the players and now tells his friends, ‘I know them!’ when he’s watching the games on television,” he said.
At halftime, Mr. Starkey walked on to the court and was given just 20 seconds in the Money Machine to grab as much cash as he could in front of the entire Delaware 87ers audience.
“I wasn’t super confidant, but thought alright, let’s do this!” he said, referring to his thoughts prior to entering the Money Machine.
With just 10 seconds left on the clock, Mr. Starkey scrambled to catch the last bit of cash flying around him in mid-air. When the timer was up, Delaware Lottery officials led Mr. Starkey off the court and counted up the cash he was able to collect.
Much to everyone’s amazement and excitement, it was announced that Mr. Starkey successfully grabbed a total of $357 in cash!
The crowd cheered for Mr. Starkey as this was his first win with the Delaware Lottery and the Lottery’s biggest Money Machine win to date.
After being awarded his prize, Mr. Starkey took his $357 in cash in hand and said, “I’m definitely going to put this toward season tickets for next year!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 42-year-old married man from Wilmington, Del., in the sales business, got his own deal of a lifetime when he purchased the $5 Instant Game, 5X The Cash and got a return of $15,000. The man said he purchased his lucky ticket from Hi-Way Inn Liquors located at Governor Printz Blvd. in Wilmington. The man also said that he typically purchases lottery tickets from this retailer and he tends to pick Instant Games that "he likes or has luck playing."
The man said he "knew immediately that his ticket was lucky after purchasing," because he had been lucky with this particular game before, winning $10 and $20 prizes.
In the hopes of winning big, the man said he purchased two 5X The Cash Instant tickets that day. Occasionally, he said he also purchases POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® with his co-workers in an office pool.
This is the first time; however, the man has won such a large amount. "My first reaction was shock," he said after learning of his win. The first and only two people he has told so far of his big win is his wife and the clerk at Hi-Way Inn Liquors.
"I even sent the store a picture of the winning ticket to share the good news with them," he said.

Claiming his top prize that same day, the man, along with his wife, told Lottery officials, "The win hasn't quite set in yet."
The man said he purchased his winning ticket earlier that day at Airport News & Tobacco located at N. DuPont Highway.
"I didn't believe it!" the man said with excitement. "I've been playing [the lottery] for a while now and just kept at it. Seemed like the law of averages. I knew I was going to hit big some time."

The man explained how he officially confirmed his $100,000 top prize winnings. "I went back to Airport News & Tobacco to have them verify and check the ticket," he said. "The clerk was so excited for me. They're a great bunch of folks at that store," he said.

(Dover, Del.) — A 53-year-old man, who wished to remain anonymous, made a lucky purchase this week. On Monday, February 24, the man bought a Classic Red Instant ticket from Millsboro Discount Liquors that was a top prizewinner and paid out $150,000.
The man said he had purchased just two tickets that day: Classic Red and a $5 Instant ticket.
“It was just a hunch,” he said, that made him decide to play the lottery. “I’ve just always thought the best way to hit the big money is to buy the big tickets,” he said, referring to the ticket’s large top prize.
At first, the man said he didn’t have a reaction after learning of his good fortune, but later said, “It just set in now,” when he was officially awarded his prize money by Delaware Lottery officials.
The man said he only plays the lottery “every now and then,” and would probably still play “every once in a while” in the future.
He told Delaware Lottery officials that he plans to put his winnings toward a house project.
“I am currently building an addition to my house so I’ll probably spend it on that,” he said.
He claimed his $150,000 top prize at Lottery headquarters in Dover on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

(Dover, Del.) — Third time was a charm for one lucky gentleman who recently purchased a top prize-winning Amethyst 7s Instant ticket. The 78-year-old man from Ocean View, Del., wished to remain anonymous, but told Lottery officials he purchased the winning ticket at the Giant grocery store in Millville last Friday, Feb. 21.
The man began to tell Lottery officials of how he became so lucky since it was his third shopping trip that finally made him decide to purchase a lottery ticket.
“I was originally going to stop at a liquor store [a few days prior] to buy a lottery ticket, but I thought ‘nah I’ll go tomorrow.’ Then tomorrow came, and I was going to buy a ticket at Shore Stop, but said to myself, ‘eh, I’ll get them later.’ The next day, [Friday] I went to the grocery store [Giant] to get some fruit and other things and that’s where I got the winning ticket!” he said.
When he realized his big win, the man said he couldn’t believe his eyes.
“My first reaction was that I didn’t believe it,” the man said. “I had to go back inside the grocery store and check the ticket. I showed the ticket to the woman behind the counter and she said, ‘Congratulations!’ I just had her check to be sure!” he said.
Some could argue that the number three seems to be the man’s lucky number. He also told Lottery officials he purchased three Amethyst 7s tickets on that same lucky day.
When asked why the man chose that particular ticket, he said, “Lucky 7s I guess.”
The man also likes to play POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® with the Delaware Lottery.
“I haven’t hit those yet [POWERBALL and MEGAMILLIONS]. If I did win, I’d give most of it to my kids. I’d keep a little bit, but not much,” he said.
The man also told Delaware Lottery officials that his winnings came just at the right time.
“I just remodeled my house for $15,000 and I turn around and won $15,000,” he said.

(Dover, Del.) — Judy Thompson, a 62-year-old retired florist and hairdresser living in Georgetown, Del., proved that she still has a gift for green. The lucky lady won a top prize of $40,000 playing Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game Triple Green 777. The winning ticket was purchased at Bodie’s Market in Georgetown.
Ms. Thompson was still at the store when she won after deciding to scratch off her tickets there. When she realized that one of the tickets was a potential winner, she had the store clerk scan and verify the ticket win. “I was in shock!” she said when the ticket was confirmed to be a top prizewinner.
Ms. Thompson then went on to explain that she and her husband regularly play the Lottery (i.e., once a week) and usually they purchase a few Instant tickets. Her husband had bought a few Instant tickets earlier in the week that were worth $10 and he won his money back. “I went back to the store with his winnings and purchased a few more tickets. This was the seventh ticket we purchased and the game was Triple Green 777 so I thought that was kind of neat!” she said.
Ms. Thompson said she has her husband to thank since he was the one who turned her on to playing the Lottery.
She is also a repeat winner with the Delaware Lottery, but says this is the highest amount she has ever won. She plans to use her new $40,000 winnings “to pay-off a loan and have a little fun,” she said with a smile.
Ms. Thompson claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters on February 11, 2014. Upon leaving, she declared, “I’m never going to doubt the possibility of winning again.”

During the first period announcements, he learned that he was the lucky season ticket holder, whose seat in section 19, row G, seat 10, earned him entry inside the Delaware Lottery’s Money Machine.
“My first reaction was a little bit of nervousness and bewilderment mixed with excitement,” he said, after hearing his name announced.
At halftime, Charles headed out on to the court to test his luck and race against the clock while grabbing as much cash as possible in just 20 seconds.
Once inside the Money Machine with cash swirling all around him, Charles told Lottery officials after the fact that he “noticed in the front corner of the machine there was a lot of bills that were flying up and collecting there. Although I didn’t have a whole lot of time, I tried to catch as many of them as I could,” he said.
His strategy indeed was successful and Charles was able to walk away with a total of $99 from the Delaware Lottery Money Machine.
When asked whom he would tell about his well-earned new stash of cash and what he would do with the winnings, Charles replied, “The first person I’m telling is my wife who is with me here today at the game and I think we’ll go out to a nice dinner,” he said leaving with a big smile.

(Dover, Del.) —A 35 year-old man from Newark, Del., became a $38,000 jackpot winner with the Delaware Lottery. The fortunate man purchased a winning DELAWARE CASH 5® ticket on January 12 at Tobacco Zone located on South College Avenue in Newark. He discovered his big win after the Tuesday evening drawing held January 14. The winning numbers drawn were 4, 6, 8, 9, 24, and the Doubler was 5.
At Lottery headquarters in Dover, the man told Lottery officials that in addition to DELAWARE CASH 5, his favorite jackpot games to play are HOT LOTTO®, MEGA MILLIONS® and MULTI-WIN LOTTO. He likes to play these games at least once a week.
The man also said he was lucky once before with the Delaware Lottery and recalled a time he won $1,000, but said, “it was a number of years ago.”
Flash forwarding to his recent $38,000 win, the man said he went back to the store to check his tickets and when he realized he hit the jackpot, the first and only person he told about his good fortune was his mother.
He claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters on Friday, January 31.
