50-PERSON OFFICE POOL WINS $1 MILLION IN SECOND-LARGEST MEGA MILLIONS® DRAWING IN HISTORY

(Dover, Del.) — A fortunate group of 50 coworkers at a New Castle County company received an early holiday gift yesterday. A ticket purchased by the office pool correctly matched five numbers to win a second prize of $1 million in Tuesday night’s MEGA MILLIONS® drawing. The jackpot for the December 17 drawing was $648 million, the second largest MEGA MILLIONS jackpot in the game’s history. A female representative from the office pool claimed the group’s prize at Lottery headquarters yesterday afternoon. Each member will receive a $20,000 prize (before taxes). The group has elected to remain anonymous.

The ticket was one of 250 MEGA MILLIONS Quick Pick tickets purchased by the office pool at the ShopRite of Four Seasons (Glasgow) located on 700 Plaza Drive in Newark. ShopRite will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“We normally play when the POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS jackpots get really big,” said the office pool representative. “But we’ve never won anything and we never thought we’d win this one.”

The representative said some members of the pool discovered their windfall Tuesday evening when they checked their numbers against the winning numbers, while others found out Wednesday morning. “I was in disbelief,” said the representative. “I checked my spreadsheet of numbers Wednesday morning and then went into the safe to get the ticket to double-check it.” When asked what she would do with their winnings, the representative told Lottery officials that she was banking it.

“We’re excited to have yet another million dollar winner in Delaware, especially during the holidays and for an almost record-breaking jackpot” said Delaware Lottery Director, Vernon Kirk. “This is the fifth prize of a million dollars or more that we’ve awarded this year.”

There were 91,461 winners in Delaware for Tuesday night’s drawing with prizes totaling $1,184,284.

The two MEGA MILLIONS $648 million jackpot-winning tickets were sold in Georgia and California. The winning numbers were 08-14-17-20-39, with a Mega Ball of 7. The jackpot rolled 21 draws without a winner, which is the longest roll ever for MEGA MILLIONS and POWERBALL®. The run began on October 1. On October 19, MEGA MILLIONS® was enhanced to offer bigger, faster-growing jackpots, and better overall odds of winning a prize. Jackpots increase by at least $5 million in drawings where there are no tickets matching all six numbers.

“The game change appears to have been successful in quickly generating jackpots as evidenced by this jackpot run,” said Vernon Kirk.

GEORGETOWN MAN WILL HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING WITH $58,000 DELAWARE CASH 5® JACKPOT WINNINGS

(Dover, Del.) — George Bickford, a 54-year-old gentleman from Georgetown, Del., will have a happy Thanksgiving holiday after learning he was a $58,000 jackpot winner from a DELAWARE CASH 5® ticket purchase he made at Bodie’s Market in Georgetown on November 26. The fortunate man discovered his big win after that evening’s drawing and said it was the best early holiday present he could ever imagine.

“I thought, if I win this, I’m going to Jamaica!” Bickford told Lottery Officials.

The next day, when the lucky winner returned to Bodie’s Market to check his ticket on the Quick Check scanner, he still couldn’t believe his eyes. His Quick Pick numbers of 6, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 6, matched the winning numbers to hit the jackpot.

“I was in shock,” said Bickford. “I quickly handed my ticket over to the retailer to check the ticket and he couldn’t believe it either!”

Bickford also told Lottery Officials that this was the first time he won such a big amount playing the Lottery. “I play pretty regularly. I usually play DELAWARE CASH 5®, MEGA MILLIONS® and POWERBALL®. I’ve only won small amounts, which I typically put toward my next week’s ticket purchase, but not this time!” he said with a smile.

Bickford says he will use a portion of his winnings to plan a trip to Jamaica in February. For now, he is prepping for the upcoming holidays. “This will make for a nice Thanksgiving and Christmas.” he said.

Bickford also plans to continue playing the Delaware Lottery. “I’m headed for a MEGA MILLIONS® win next!” he said with excitement. He claimed his $58,000 prize at Lottery headquarters on November 27.

GRANDFATHER PLANS TO TAKE GRANDKIDS TO DISNEY WORLD WITH $50,000 TOP PRIZE WINNINGS

(Dover, Del.) — Mark Eashum, a 54-year-old man from Camden, DE, won $50,000 from the Delaware Lottery after playing the Lottery’s Instant Game $50,000 Richer! He purchased his winning ticket at Woodside’s Uncle Willie’s located at 5485 S. DuPont Highway.

Mr. Eashum told Lottery Officials that he had taken his two granddaughters, ages five and seven respectively, to Uncle Willie’s on a Sunday to do some shopping. While he was there, he decided to pick up some Sports Lottery tickets and purchased a few Instant tickets as well. Deciding not to wait, Mr. Eashum scratched his Instant tickets in the car and discovered that one ticket, $50,000 Richer!, had brought him some luck.

“I sat there a while in silent disbelief,” he said. “Then the five-year-old asked me, ‘Papa, are you ok?’ I told her that I was fine, but just won $50,000.”

His granddaughter’s immediate response to her grandfather was, “We are going to Disney World!”

Mr. Eashum plans to make good on this promise and will use a portion of his winnings to take the girls to Disney World.

“We will go once the school year is finished and since the girls are doing so well in school,” he said.

(Dover, Del.) — A trip to the supermarket turned lucky for a 79-year-old man from Ocean View, DE. The man had purchased a MULTI-WIN LOTTO ticket on April 29 at the Food Lion located at Atlantic Avenue in Millville for that evening’s drawing. (Dover, Del.) — A 50-year-old married man and father of one from Cecil County, MD, was able to cash in on DELAWARE CASH 5®, winning $60,000 in the April 6 drawing. A regular Lottery player, the man told Delaware Lottery officials that he has been playing the Lottery for quite some time now.

“I began playing years ago in Maryland, when the jackpots started getting high,” he said.

Using the Quick Pick option, the lucky man purchased his winning DELAWARE CASH 5® ticket the previous day (April 5) at the Glasgow CITGO in Newark, DE.

“I usually purchase 10 tickets total, two tickets each for POWERBALL® MEGA MILLIONS®, HOT LOTTO®,” MULTI-WIN LOTTO AND DELAWARE CASH 5®,” he said.

Excited about his newfound fortune, the man told Lottery officials, “I won a thousand bucks once, but this was the first big win!” he said.

Checking his ticket numbers online at delottery.com, the man was in disbelief when he saw his ticket numbers were the winning numbers for DELAWARE CASH 5®.

Laughing, he said, “I had to wake up my wife to make sure they were the winning numbers!”

So far, his wife is the only person the fortunate man has told about the win. His wife joined him at Lottery headquarters in Dover on April 26 to claim the $60,000 prize.

When asked what the couple would do with the winnings, his wife spoke up and said, “A long overdue vacation! That’s all we have in mind right now.”

Before leaving with his prize, the man told Lottery officials that he plans to continue to play the Lottery in the future.

Taking the tickets to the Dash In located at Delaware Avenue in Wilmington, the man was greatly surprised to learn that one of his tickets, a MULTI-WIN LOTTO purchased on October 23, 2012 for the next day’s drawing, was worth $102,0120.
