“I normally play once a week,” said the ecstatic mother of three, holding back happy tears. “Just one or two dollars on each game is all.”
The woman, who has played the Delaware Lottery for years, only recently started playing DELAWARE CASH 5®. Her strategy, she noted, was to-use similar numbers that she regularly plays in other Lottery games.
“I randomly chose a series of numbers a while ago,” she said. “They are the same for POWERBALL®, MEGA MILLIONS®, and now DELAWARE CASH 5®. I checked the ticket yesterday because my daughter had come over to make dinner, and I felt like I should take a drive and do something with my time.”
Her ride took an unexpected, yet fortunate, turn when a clerk at a convenience store scanned her ticket and exclaimed excitedly, “Oh my gosh! You won $43,000!”
“I must have looked like a deer in the headlights,” said the lucky ticketholder. “I almost walked into the door! When I got outside, I called my daughter, and she told me to ‘stop playing around’ and just come on home.”
With plans to pay some bills and perhaps make a down payment on a house, the winning woman said her family has been supportive of her good fortune.
“My son said that he always had a feeling something good like this would happen,” she said. “And my daughter – who used to tease me for playing – is now hinting around about a car. But for the peace of mind alone, this is definitely a blessing.”

“I play once a week, and have for a couple of years,” said the happy winner, who noted upon claiming his prize on July 3, that this is the largest amount he’s won to date. “I do play POWERBALL® and the instant games, because I’m still trying for the big one!”
The man noted that he tends to play the newest games as soon as they come out. In this case, it was a lucky shopping trip that led him to the big moment.
“I was on a shopping trip for my mom when I decided to stop in [at O’Neill’s],” he noted. “I scratched off the ticket right outside the door and when I saw the numbers matched on the card, I had to call and ask my wife if she was sitting down!”
His elated wife, he remembered, started crying.
The man and his wife, who have three children and several grandchildren, plan to pay some bills with the winnings.
“I could do this winning thing about once a week!” he joked.

“I normally play when POWERBALL® reaches a certain amount, somewhere around $60 or $80 million,” said the man, 59, claiming the prize on June 12. “In this case, I just happened to be at a store and picked up a Quick Pick ticket.”
Indeed, it was a well-timed purchase on June 9 at Wilmington’s Shore Stop located on Centerville Road, for that evening’s drawing. The man had managed to match all five numbers for a cool $1 million prize.
“I had been out to dinner with a relative from across the country,” said his wife. “We arrived home shortly after the numbers had been drawn and my husband said, ‘I just won a million dollars!’”
The husband laughed heartily. “She was like, ‘SHOW ME!’” he joked.
Showing both her and the relative the winning ticket, thoughts turned to how best to spend the newfound winnings.
“My wife said we should pay it forward,” noted the husband. “And I think some form of charitable contribution is how that will go. We also want to help some people in terms of education, that sort of thing.”
The couple notes that they will certainly play again, but requested anonymity in their winnings, with just one small matter to take care of.
“Because it’s so recent, we still need to tell our families,” said the woman, with a big smile. “My one relative was able to share in the moment and it was wonderful, but then we had to put him on a plane and tell him to be quiet for a week or two.”

“I’m a pretty regular player,” he said. “I play my numbers, which are predominantly birthdays of family members, for each game on Sunday night. I never check them until the following Sunday afternoon.”
In this case, the gentleman did not realize that he had matched all five numbers in the June 9 DELAWARE CASH 5® drawing until the following day.
“I checked the ticket in one of the two machines there,” he remembered. “When the machine went crazy, I ran it through again – and the woman at the store said, ‘You better sign the back of that ticket!’”
The married father expressed his desire to help his family with the win.
“I told my wife, first, but she only knows I play when I hit the big ones!” he joked. “Beyond that, this will help my kids with their schooling.”
But why lose steam now, he asked, when claiming his ticket on June 11.
“Right after I scanned the winning one, I still bought tickets for this week,” he laughed. “It’s part of my routine.”

(Dover, Del.) — A semi-retired couple from Dover were all smiles as they cashed in winning POWERBALL® tickets on May 31 for a total of $10,014 at Delaware Lottery Headquarters.
“I normally play POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® each week,” said the winning gentleman, 68, who purchased his tickets at the Food Lion located at 250 Gateway South Boulevard in Dover, for the POWERBALL® drawings that were held May 12 and May 16. “I always like to have just a chance at each game.”
His wife agreed, and noted her husband’s lottery-playing pattern.
“He sometimes forgets to check them right away!” She laughed.
In this case, the man noted, he remembered about a week later. Taking his tickets, which featured a variety of his usual selected number combinations (birthdays of his wife and children), to a lottery retailer, the man was stunned to “see so many zeros on the scanner.”
“I was slightly neurotic,” he joked. “I had to run to another retailer and try it on their scanner, just to be sure!”
His disbelief turned to practicality, though, when realization of the win set in.
“He’s a saver,” said his wife, who noted that the money would be put in the bank.
“Well, I am going to give something to the woman who sold me the tickets,” remarked the happy fellow. “You have to share your blessings.”
“As for my wife,” he said with a smirk and a laugh, “She’s getting the $14. So of course we’ll have to play again.”

(Dover, Del.) — Ruth Moyer, a 25-year-old Newark, Delaware native, became the first person in the First State to claim a five-figure prize in the March 30 MEGA MILLIONS® jackpot, according to the Delaware Lottery.
“I heard the news about the ($640 million) jackpot on my way home from work on Thursday night,” said Moyer, who was beside herself with the win. “I joked to my stepmom that we should go buy tickets, and that’s exactly what we did.”
Purchasing her tickets at Delaware Cigarette & Tobacco along N. Dupont Highway in New Castle on March 29, Moyer decided to let the Quick Pick system do the number selecting for her. “I play periodically,” she said, upon claiming her prize on April 2. “But I only ever play one dollar on each ticket, because that’s all you need.”
Coming home from an evening out, Moyer did not realize her good fortune until early Saturday morning. “I remembered telling my stepmom that I had two ‘23’s,” she said. “When I looked at the ticket, I read it seven times – and then I called the hotline!”
Upon confirming her win, she ran upstairs to share the good news with her parents – after waking them up, of course. “They thought something was wrong!” she laughed.
Moyer notes that this windfall will help with a desire she’s had for quite some time. “I really would like to get a new car,” she said, joking about the perks that have come with the victory. “My boss told me I was a celebrity.”
Most important, though, is Moyer’s desire to help others. “There is absolutely one charity in mind that I’m going to put money toward,” she smiled. “This is the best way to spend a Monday morning, and I know I’ll play again for that reason!”

(Dover, Del.) — An 85-year-old man from Wilmington, who has played the lottery for decades, finally hit the big time with a $10,000 POWERBALL® win in the drawing held Feb. 22.
Happily recounting the many years he has spent playing, the man recalled when he first bought tickets in his native country of England. Since moving to the United States, the man said he has loved playing the Delaware Lottery over the years.
“I’ve been here for about 26 years,” he noted. “I have played ever since I can remember.”
In this case, he picked up his winning ticket at Fairfax News, on Concord Pike in Wilmington. Quite particular about his strategy, he said that he picks up four tickets at a time – four for Wednesday and four for Saturday’s drawings, but noted that he only needed to purchase one to win.
“I select my own numbers,” he stated. “They’re birthdays of people significant to me.”
Accompanied by his wife and one of his daughters, the man claimed his prize at the Delaware Lottery Headquarters on Feb. 24. “I just couldn’t believe it,” the man responded.
The daughter who accompanied him couldn’t help but smile as the happy gentleman explained how he told his family of his good fortune.
“I thought I had won something before and didn’t – at least three times,” he laughed. “So I had family members who didn’t believe me this time.”
Perhaps they will soon, when he says ‘cheers’ to some bills, with his newfound winnings.
“I’ll still play the Delaware Lottery,” he added. “After this long, my favorite game is now POWERBALL®!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 65-year-old woman and her husband, Delaware natives from Greenwood, won a quick million dollars this week playing MEGA MILLIONS® with the Delaware Lottery.
“My husband and I are both regular lottery players,” the woman noted. “We normally play MEGA MILLIONS®, POWERBALL® and MULTI WIN LOTTO – just a few dollars on each.”
But even as regular players, the fortunate couple could not have dreamed about what would happen when they purchased a MEGA MILLIONS® ticket with the extra $1 Megaplier® option at the Royal Farms in Greenwood on Feb. 25. Purchased for the Feb. 28 drawing, it was not until the next day that the winners realized they had something special.
“I arrived home after being out in the morning,” said the woman. “The ticket was next to the couch, and I thought ‘The numbers aren’t underlined’ which is our usual way of noting which ones matched the drawing.”
Her husband, who had left the ticket on the table, had recognized the win, but not the enormity of the prize.
“I said, we’ll wait and see what happens,” he joked.
“We had won $1,000 a long time ago,” said the wife. “But we figured we would come to Lottery Headquarters and find out.”
Upon claiming their prize on March 1, the couple learned that their luck was good enough to match the five MEGA MILLIONS® numbers – and combined with the Megaplier® option, quadrupled their initial $250,000 win.
With the realization of their big win, the couple began to make plans.
“We’re going to pay off the mortgage,” they said in unison. The thrill of victory, they noted, has been a quiet one, at first. “We haven’t even told our children yet,” said the wife. “But I can’t keep secrets, so I’m sure it will be within the week.”
When asked if they would continue to play the lottery, both shook their heads enthusiastically.
“I’ll probably buy a ticket tomorrow,” said the woman. “I’m not giving up – because for $1, you never know when you’re going to win!”

(Dover, Del.) — A Wheel of Fortune second chance drawing has proven to be lucky for one New Castle woman. Delaware Lottery player, Donna W., has been randomly selected to receive a trip to Hollywood, California, with the chance to play in an exclusive non-broadcast, lottery players-only Wheel of Fortune game hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White.
Knowing of her mother’s fondness for watching Wheel of Fortune and playing the lottery, Donna purchased her Wheel of Fortune instant ticket at Books & Tobacco, Inc. on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington. When she did not win an instant prize, Donna decided to fill out the back and enter her ticket in the second chance drawing. “I never thought I would be going to California!” said Donna.
“My sister didn’t believe me,” said Donna, who works as a chemical operator and also enjoys playing Delaware Lottery instant games. “I’ve won smaller cash prizes – like $40 or $50, but nothing like this.”
Donna’s sister, her son, and his girlfriend, will be accompanying her on a five-day, four-night trip to Hollywood in late April.
While in California, Donna will meet up with second chance winners from across the country. She will be escorted to the historic Sony lot to spin the wheel for a guaranteed cash prize between $300 and $10,000, and could also be chosen at random to play in the non-broadcast, lottery players-only Wheel of Fortune game for the chance to win up to $1 million.
Additionally, if randomly selected for the Million Dollar Bonus Wheel Spin-Off, Donna could play for cash prizes between $5,000 and $1 Million.
The Delaware Lottery is still accepting non-winning Wheel of Fortune instant tickets for a Multi-State Bonus drawing through August 3. A preliminary second-chance drawing will be held on August 9 for two eligible winners to be selected and entered into the Multi-State Bonus drawing for a chance to win a cash prize of up to $1 Million. The final Multi-State Bonus Drawing will include all eligible entries from all participating lotteries selected in the preliminary second chance drawing and will be held on or about September 17, 2012. (Dover, Del.) — Last Friday, a 58-year-old millwright from Bear who commutes daily to his job in Wilmington, had the best ride home of his life after realizing that he’d won the $126,000 top prize playing MULTI-WIN LOTTO with the Delaware Lottery.
“I usually play PLAY3® or PLAY4®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO and sometimes POWERBALL®, and usually I call in to check the numbers,” he said. “In this case, it was Friday night (Feb. 24) – the same day as the drawing day and the same day I purchased the winning ticket. I went to the store that night, used the scanner, and all these numbers came up.”
In disbelief of his good fortune, he asked the clerk at Books and Tobacco, Inc. in Wilmington where he also purchased the ticket, to verify what he was seeing.
“She was so excited, because I’ve played there for years,” he remembered. “My heart was racing!”
His strategy for picking numbers? “Birthdays and ‘lucky’ numbers,” he said, such as the type you might find in fortune cookies.
Commenting further on his Lottery strategy, the lucky winner laughed and said, “I play the same numbers over and over. Previously the most I had won was $522, but I don’t know, though, if these were those same winning numbers or not!”
The winner and his fiancée were full of joy on Feb. 28, when he claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters.
“I’ve been working for 35 years, and while I will keep working, this will help with some bills,” he smiled. “It’s been a really enjoyable experience!”

(Dover, Del.) —A University of Delaware Blue Hen fan’s season ticket became a winning ticket, courtesy of the Delaware Lottery, during a women’s basketball game held at the university’s Bob Carpenter Center on Feb. 23.
As part of the University of Delaware’s “Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night,” 36-year-old Adrienne Bane from Wilmington was the lucky ticket-holder randomly selected for entry into the Delaware Lottery’s money machine.
With just minutes left in the first half, Adrienne was given thirty seconds during a game time-out to race against the clock and grab as much cash possible inside the Lottery’s Money Machine.
“I was a little nervous, but it was so much fun!” said Adrienne, upon exiting the money machine. “I could’ve stayed in there longer; I had just started to figure out a strategy.”
Nevertheless, and thanks to the Delaware Lottery, the fortunate woman was able to walk away with $58 and a big smile.
When asked what she’d like to do with her cash winnings, Adrienne replied, “I’m going to save the money for my next vacation to Florida.”
A six-year season ticket veteran, not only does Adrienne enjoy University of Delaware basketball games, but occasionally likes to play the Lottery, as well. “When the jackpots grow, I usually play,” she said.

(Dover, Del.) — A Millsboro woman will attempt to spin her way to a million dollars in Hollywood, courtesy of the Delaware Lottery. Second chance drawing winner, Dianna D., was randomly selected for the chance to play in an exclusive non-broadcast, lottery players-only Wheel of Fortune game with Pat Sajak and
Vanna White.
“I never expected anything like this in my lifetime,” said Dianna, 52, who had been excited to receive instant tickets from her fiancé on Christmas Day.
“They were all the Wheel of Fortune game,” she said. Her fiancé insisted she try her luck once more by mailing in her non-winning tickets for the second chance drawing. “My fiancé looked me right in the eye and told me to fill out the back, saying, “You’re going to Hollywood.”
His prediction was fulfilled less than two months later, when Dianna received a call from Delaware Lottery Headquarters informing her that her non-winning instant ticket was selected at random; earning her and three guests a five-day, four-night trip to Hollywood in late April.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said, through happy tears. “I handed the phone to him (her fiancé) because I couldn’t talk, and even he had tears rolling down his cheeks. Of course, he stopped long enough to say ‘I told you so!’”
Just two Wheel of Fortune Hollywood Trips will be awarded through the Delaware Lottery, making Dianna one of two recipients and lucky winner to be named.
While in Hollywood, California, Dianna will meet up with second chance winners from across the country. There, they will be escorted to the historic Sony lot to spin the wheel for a guaranteed cash prize between $300 and $10,000. Second chance drawing winners like Dianna could also be chosen at random to play in the non-broadcast, lottery players-only Wheel of Fortune game with Pat Sajak and Vanna White for the chance to win up to $1 million.
Additionally, if randomly selected for the Million Dollar Bonus Wheel Spin-Off, Dianna could play for cash prizes between $5,000 and $1 Million.
“It would be a dream come true (to win a million dollars),” she said.

(Dover, Del.) — A 46-year-old woman from New Castle experienced a top prizewinner’s rush for the first time this week. The lucky lady took home $20,000 while playing White Gold, an instant game offered by the Delaware Lottery.
“I play a few tickets each week – and I just had a feeling about that one particular ticket on Sunday night (Feb. 12).”
As she scratched off her ticket during her mid-shift break at work, the woman said she was astonished to learn of her big win.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said, excitedly. “I looked at my coworker and said, “Does this say what I think it says?”
Explaining that the windfall would allow for some extra comforts for herself and her son, she spoke of just how much having a car – her first purchase with the winnings – would mean to her.
“I’m a bus traveler,” she remarked, when claiming her prize on Feb. 14. “It’s going to be nice not to have to depend on that anymore.”
“And it’s funny,” she continued, marveling at her recent luck. “A few weeks ago, I won $50 on White Gold, and I was quite happy with just that. Now all my friends want to play!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 56-year-old office administrator from New Castle received a cash boost on Feb. 10, having won $10,000 playing POWERBALL® with the Delaware Lottery.
“I generally play two times a week,” she noted. “I purchase my POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS® ticket at the same time – just one ticket each.”
Allowing her numbers to be randomly chosen by Quick Pick, she noted that this was not the first time she had correctly matched a series of numbers, but winning still remains a great surprise.
“I checked the self-scanner twice and asked the person behind the counter to double-check it!” She laughed. “I wanted to make sure I wasn’t imagining it, and I was so excited I almost left without my ticket for the next drawing.”
The lucky woman purchased her ticket on Jan. 31 at the Hess Express in New Castle for the following evening’s February 1 drawing. In the event of a cash infusion, the woman claimed she already knew what she would do with her winnings.
“I’m going to share it with my family,” she smiled, thinking of the joy it would bring. “It only took one ticket - $2 - to do that.”
The woman claimed her prize on Feb. 10.

(Dover, Del.) — Eleven lucky coworkers have 200,000 reasons to smile after winning with POWERBALL®, courtesy of the Delaware Lottery.
“We just decided one day that it would be better to go in together instead of purchasing tickets individually,” said one excited player, who asked for anonymity when claiming their prize on Jan. 27. “Usually each person puts in a few dollars every week.”
That type of collective strategy paid off on Dec. 7, when Quick Pick numbers they purchased at the Townsend Shore Stop were drawn – yet the troupe didn’t actually know they had won until a few days later, when a co-worker took the tickets to a lottery retailer to check.
“About time!” someone exclaimed, re-telling the story.
The group, which noted that their largest previous win had been $156, looks forward to continuing their regular play – and their families approve. “Our families heard from us first [when we won],” said a winner. “Well…they heard us screaming!”
Many noted that they plan to use the money for luxurious items or practical purposes - a vacation or new wedding ring, perhaps, or just tucking the money away for savings or investment purposes. But all note that they will play POWERBALL® again.
“It’s our favorite [Delaware] Lottery game,” said a happy recipient. “At least until we win on another one!”

(Dover, Del.) — A 41-year-old Wilmington man and father took home $200,000 in a recent POWERBALL® win, courtesy of the Delaware Lottery.
“I usually spend a few dollars a week on POWERBALL® or MEGA MILLIONS®,” said the lifelong Delaware resident, as he claimed his prize on Jan. 11. “I had a specific set of numbers for a while that my daughters picked for me.”
Having not had much success with those particular sets of numbers, or by joining his friends through the years in a Lottery pool, the man relied on a few simple Quick Picks when purchasing his tickets in the Elsmere Acme on Dec. 27 for the following night’s drawing.
“My wife asked me if I was going to play my daughters’ numbers, but the card with those numbers on was so old and faded,” he said, with a slight laugh. “I picked up one of my girls from school with two of her friends, and when I stopped at the gas station, I checked to see if I’d won.”
Recognizing his good fortune, the gentleman called his wife from the gas station – keeping his voice low to make sure the younger parties did not hear.
“Of course they heard,” he joked. “They didn’t believe me at first, but my wife did!”
The gentleman replied that he already knows just what to do with his earnings.
“I just had my second back surgery, and so I’ve been laid up and unable to work my delivery job,” he said. “My wife and I have agreed that this would be the perfect opportunity to go back to school if I can’t return to my old workplace.”
Finally, the gentleman had some happy advice for long-time players, or those considering playing the Delaware Lottery for the first time.
“I’d tell them that it only takes one ticket,” he offered. “I always thought you had to win in a pool, but changing up my normal routine was all it took!”

(Dover, Del.) — A Wilmington woman turned a series of lucky coincidences – with an assist from an old favorite television show – into $10,000 as an instant top prizewinner with the Delaware Lottery.
Stephanie Dickson, 43, a lifelong resident of Delaware, was bowling with friends on Jan. 5 at Pleasant Hill Lanes near Newport, when a spur-of-the-moment Lottery purchase made her night.
“In the middle of the second game, I saw a clerk standing behind the counter, and thought, I’ll buy a lottery ticket,” she said. “I gave him the money and said, ‘You pick the game’ – because I figured it was just kind of something to do.”
The clerk produced a White Gold scratch-off ticket – one that Dickson scratched off, and then stared at in disbelief as her best friend said, “Oh my God, you won!”
“Recognizing the need to store her ticket for safekeeping until it could be claimed at Lottery Headquarters on Jan. 9, Dickson turned to an old friend – her 1979 CHiPs lunchbox, featuring Officer Francis “Frank” Poncharello.
“I knew Poncharello would take good care of it!” she joked. “I haven’t opened that lunchbox in 25 years, and felt completely safe that it was in there.”
With plans to pay off bills, donate a bit, purchase new carpeting and fund a portion of her annual trip to Las Vegas, the fortunate woman has mapped out steps for her winnings.
Dickson noted that she would continue to play Delaware Lottery games.
“I tried POWERBALL® on Saturday night (Jan. 7). I figured I was having a good week!” she exclaimed.
But Dickson isn’t counting out another win someday – with Officer Poncharello on her side, why should she?
“I’ll never get rid of that lunchbox!” Dickson declared.
