NEWARK MAN DOUBLES UP WITH HOT LOTTO® WINS

Dover, Del. – A 60-year-old man claimed two Hot Lotto® prizes from the Delaware Lottery on Tuesday, Dec. 22, each worth $10,002.  The lucky player’s numbers hit in the Dec. 19 drawing.  A retired veteran and native of Pennsylvania, the winner now resides in Newark and has spent the last 40 years in the First State.

“I usually let Quick Pick choose my numbers, but for the first time I decided to try my luck with my own numbers.  When I got to the counter I only picked the numbers for one ticket, but the clerk accidentally thought I wanted two so I bought them both.”  He couldn’t have made a better decision.  A frequent player of Multi-Win Lotto, Powerball, and Hot Lotto, this marks the winner’s first big win.

After patiently waiting through Saturday’s snowstorm, the lucky winner made his way back to the Country Tobacco store, located in Newark, to buy his tickets for the next week’s drawing.  On his way out he dug up the Newspaper from Sunday and discovered he had won.  When the winner arrived at the store he found out that he had won not one, but two $10,002 prizes from the Hot Lotto.  “I couldn’t believe that I hit all my numbers, and most of all, that I had hit them twice!  I still can’t believe it!  The win couldn’t have come at a better time.”

“For now we’re putting some of the winnings towards remodeling our house,” said the winner.  “The rest is getting deposited directly into the bank tomorrow.  I don’t think it will change my life or the amount of Lottery games I play, but it was a great surprise – especially this time of year.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Country Tobacco located at 19 Possum Park Mall in Newark.

Georgetown Man Claims Another Big POWERBALL® Prize

Dover, Del. – A lucky Delawarean claimed a $200,000 POWERBALL® prize earlier this week, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The 59-year-old winner is a used-car salesman who is no stranger to big wins, but this might be his biggest yet.  The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, took home two separate $10,000 Powerball wins last year as well.

The Georgetown resident has been a regular lottery player since the Delaware Lottery was established in 1975 and has no intentions of quitting anytime soon.  “I buy tickets everywhere, and I’ve enjoyed the game since it started up here in Delaware.”  He had some help figuring out that he’d won again in a July 1 drawing.

“When I went back to the store where I bought the tickets the clerk asked me if I’d checked them yet.  I didn’t have them on me, so I couldn’t check them right then, but the clerk already found out that someone at his store had hit for $200,000 on the day I’d been in there to pick mine up.  That’s when it dawned on me that I hadn’t checked my tickets in a while.”  He didn’t wait much longer – claiming the cash soon after on July 27.  “It was the second-to-last ticket I checked in that big stack I had piled up.”

The anonymous player hit the big time by using Quick Pick.  “I told my wife right away and she was obviously thrilled.  I think we’re going to just put the money into a CD for now.  No major changes.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Uptown Liquors, located in Milford at 207 NE Front St.

Claymont mother’s $10k Hot Lotto win will go towards son’s education

Dover, Del. – A Claymont woman who recently won a $10,000 HOT LOTTO® prize says the money will go towards her two-year-old son’s college education.  The lucky player struck it rich in a July 15 drawing and claimed the prize five days later.

The lucky player used a combination of her own numbers to land the cash prize.  “I went with a combination of birthdays for kids in my family.”  After checking the winning numbers online, the player quickly asked her niece to recheck them.  “I was so excited at first, but I didn’t believe it right away.  I’m old and blind, so I needed my niece to confirm it for me,” the winner joked.

MARYLAND MAN KICKS BACK AFTER $10K WIN

Dover, Del. – A 55-year-old man from Galena, Md. took his time claiming a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize – but that’s only because he didn’t realize he’d won.  The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, hit it big March 21 but nearly four months passed before he came forward to claim his prize on July 13.

The married man works as a biologist with a large research company and originally hails from Ohio.  He’s been a frequent Delaware Lottery player for about 10 years, typically purchasing tickets on his way home from work.  “I don’t play every week, but I pick up $3 or $5 worth of tickets when I think of it.  Most of the time I wind up playing at the end of the week.”

So what took him so long to claim the prize?  “I usually collect my tickets and check a stack of them at a time once every few weeks.  I just forgot about these tickets for some reason and I only checked them two weeks ago,” said the winner.  “I thought it was a mistake or that I’d only won $1,000 when I scanned it at first, so I had the clerk scan it again to confirm.  I quickly signed the back when it set in that I’d really won $10,000.”

He quickly told his wife the good news.  “She wasn’t happy that I’d had the winning ticket sitting at our house that long, but this was the first day that I could get over to Dover (to claim the prize),” he said.  Now the couple is deciding what to do with the cash.  “We’ve got some home renovations planned that we haven’t gotten to for a while and some will go into our savings,” said the winner.  “This won’t change out life in any major way, but it’s a very nice surprise!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell Food Mart, located in Newark at 2410 Pulaski Hwy.

POWERBALL® WIN HAS PA PLAYERS CELEBRATING

Dover, Del. – The Delaware Lottery surprised a group of Boothwyn, Pa., players with a $10,000 prize on July 4.  Fireworks are great, but a spokesperson for the group said they were much happier to win the POWERBALL® prize.  The group of seven claimed their cash on July 6.

The anonymous prize claimer said the group regularly plays Powerball, while this marks their first major win.  Powerball is their favorite Delaware Lottery game and they typically purchase 21 tickets per draw as part of an office pool.  They made a big splash by using the Quick Pick option.

The lucky player learned about the win by checking the Delaware Lottery’s internet site, delottery.com.  The great discovery left the winner nearly speechless.  “My first reaction was ‘Yeah!’”

After learning the good news, the winner was quick to inform co-workers.  Now summer vacation plans and new televisions are in the future for some members of the lucky group.

The prizewinner bought the winning ticket at Ridge Liquors, located in Claymont at 315 Ridge Road.

Bear Player finds his lucky Numbers

Dover, Del. – A 43-year-old Bear resident claimed a $10,007 POWERBALL® prize on June 28, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The win came in a May 27 drawing.  The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, works in the telecommunications industry.

“I play fairly often, but not at the store where I bought the winning ticket,” he said.  “I was just up there waiting for something and I figured I’d buy some tickets.  I’m not really a regular player, but I play when the numbers get high.”  Powerball is the only game he plays.

The anonymous player typically relies on Quick Pick, but he hit it big by choosing his own numbers.  “It’s strange because I almost always use Quick Pick.  I’m going to mix it up from now on and go with a combination of my own numbers and some computer picks.”

He learned about the win when checking his ticket at the Texaco station where he usually plays.  “I didn’t believe it even after two scans so I asked the clerk to confirm it for me.”  He contacted his wife at once with the good news.  “We’re going stealth mode on this,” he said.  “Flying under the radar.”

“The win will definitely help with some bills and we’re also going to put some money away.  It should be a nice incremental help.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Talleyville Food Mart located in Wilmington at 4101 Concord Pike.

BIG WIN HAS BRIDGEVILLE MAN FEELING ‘HOT’

Dover, Del. – An 80-year-old Seaford man nabbed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize on June 17, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The fortunate player, who wishes to remain anonymous, wasted no time in visiting the Lottery’s Dover headquarters to claim his prize the next day.

A retiree, the winner joked that he moved to Delaware recently to get away from his kids.  “I’m very happy living here, and I’m sure I’ll be getting more visits now.”

The anonymous winner typically purchases two tickets per draw, unless the jackpots move above $100 million.  “When it gets really big I’ll sometimes buy five tickets.”  He’s been a regular lottery player for years who normally plays both weekly Powerball drawings, along with some Instant Games.

“I started playing because of the combination of jackpots and entertainment,” he said.  “As it showed today, it paid off!”

The winner checked his ticket first thing on the morning of June 18.  “I knew what the prize was right away,” he remembered.  “I was shocked.  I told my wife and she almost fell over.  We don’t intend to share the news with the rest of the community. We just bought a car and the money will go right back into our savings account.”

“This won’t change our life dramatically, but we’ll probably splurge here and there.  Not on any one thing in particular.”

GROOM-TO-BE HITS FOR $10K POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, Del. – David Swift, of Delaware City, scored a $10,000 POWERBALL® win on June 13, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  Newly engaged, the 29-year-old Georgetown native claimed his prize June 15 and says the money will sure up finances before his June 26 wedding next year.

Swift has worked as a heavy equipment manager for Waste Management for 15 years and says he’s enjoyed playing the lottery for nearly as long.  “I bought three Powerball tickets the day I won, which is pretty typical,” he said.  “I also picked up a couple of scratch offs.  I wouldn’t say I’m a ‘regular’ player because I play kind of randomly – like when I’m getting gas or running to the store, or whatever.”

The recent win dwarfed Swift’s previous high-win: a $300 haul from a scratch off ticket he hit about 5 years ago.  Quick Pick delivered the lucky numbers.

“I checked my ticket in the store and the clerk scanned, told me I was a winner, and printed it right out for me,” Swift remembered.  “It was pretty amazing.  I was definitely feeling shock and disbelief at first.”  He immediately called his fiancé to share the happy news.  “I also told the family and a couple of guys at work.”

The couple recently purchased a second vehicle and Swift says the winnings will go towards paying it off.  “We’re also going to catch up on some bills.  In the short term this will make things easier for a while.  We won’t have to watch every penny now.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Bodies Market #3 located in Georgetown at 105 South Bedford St.

"Everything is Good" For Multi-win Lotto player

Dover, Del. – Things are suddenly looking up for a Newark man who recently landed a $68,000 MULTI-WIN LOTTO prize.  The 42-year-old and his family struck it rich in a June 1 drawing.  The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed the prize June 10.

Originally from Jamaica, the player has lived in Delaware since 1988.  He currently works in manufacturing for Rohm and Haas.  Married for 16 years and a father of two, the winner is a frequent Delaware Lottery player.  The winner says Multi-Win Lotto is his favorite game, but he also enjoys scratch off games.

“I’ve played Multi-Win regularly from about the time we moved here,” said the winner.  “I generally buy two tickets a week at the 7-Eleven near my office.”  The lucky numbers came courtesy of Quick Pick.

The player discovered the win by checking his ticket in the retailer where he bought it.  “I tried to keep my composure until I left the store,” he said.  “I was barely successful.  I told my wife shortly after that.”

For now the winner is unsure what to do with the newfound cash.  “We’re still working it out,” he said.  “We have some bills to pay off, but we’re not sure after that.  This isn’t going to change our life too much, but it will change it in good ways.  Everything is good!”

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located in Newport at 201 West Market St.

Dover, Del. – A Wilmington resident is floating on cloud nine after correctly picking enough numbers in a recent POWERBALL® drawing to secure a $30,000 prize.  James Cowan, 57, claimed his prize from the Delaware Lottery on June 1 after hitting it big with a Power Play drawing on a May 27.

The lucky player says the numbers just jumped into his head.  “I had a dream 11 years ago where these numbers popped up and ever since then I’ve played them.  The final number (the Powerball number), came to me in the airport,” he says.  “I was leaving from Gate 7.”

Cowan hails from North Carolina and purchases about 20 tickets weekly.  “I’d say that I play for the prizes about as much as I play just for the fun of it.”  He also enjoys the Play 3 and Play 4 games.

He remembers discovering the win.  “I pulled up to the store where I bought the ticket and noticed there was a sign up that said: ‘Nice surprise.  We sold a $30,000 Powerball ticket here.’”  It didn’t take long to figure out he was holding the lucky ticket.  “I said thank you to God and I said a little prayer.”

After taking care of some bills and closing the estate of his recently-passed wife, Cowan plans to check with his family to see if they need any financial help.  “This will surely help with some things that have been hanging over me.”

The disabled widower is not done playing the lottery yet.  “One numbers didn’t come yet, so I’m going to keep playing.”

Dover, Del. – A 32-year-old Middletown man has claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The player, who wishes to remain anonymous hails from Philadelphia originally and works as a fencer.

“I don’t have a typical place I purchase my lottery tickets,” said the winner.  “I just play whenever I get a feeling.”  He must have had the right feeling prior to the May 13 Powerball drawing, because he was claiming a $10,000 prize the very next day.  He used the Quick Pick option.

While the lucky player has won prizes in the past, including a grill, this represents his largest win to date.  He cites Powerball and scratch-off games as his favorite Delaware Lottery offerings.

“Something told me to check the numbers before I went to bed that night, so I called the Lottery’s hotline on the phone,” he remembered.  “I was so excited when I found out I’d won that I called everybody I know!”

Now the winner will apply the funds towards some outstanding debts.  “This win is going to change my life for sure because I’m going to be able to get my driver’s license back,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Malin’s Market and Deli, located in Newark at 812 S College Ave.

MILFORD WOMAN CLAIMS MAJOR MULTI-WIN PRIZE

Dover, Del. – A Milford retiree recently picked up $90,020 in a May 8 drawing by playing the Delaware Lottery’s MULTI-WIN LOTTO game.  The 59-year-old player claimed his prize May 11 and wishes to remain anonymous.

A frequent Lottery player, the lucky woman typically purchases five tickets at time either with Quick Pick or using her own set of random numbers.  She says a combination of large jackpots and frequent commercials convinced her to start playing the lottery.  After this big win it’s no surprise she names Multi-Win Lotto as her favorite Delaware Lottery game.

The winner discovered she’d won by checking online for the winning numbers.  In disbelief, she then asked her husband to go online and confirm they were really holding a winning ticket.

For now the lucky player says the win is unlikely to change her life.  “We’re going to take our time to decide what to do with the money,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Milford Plaza Cigarette Outlet.

COUPLE SCORES POWERBALL® WIN AT OPPORTUNE TIME

Dover, Del. – A lucky Wilmingtonian claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize April 4 thanks to the Delaware Lottery and a March 28 drawing.  The 43-year-old Delaware native said the win could not have come at a better time, as her husband was recently laid off work.

Originally from New Castle County, the anonymous winner owns her own business.  She classifies herself as a frequent Lottery player who has enjoyed the games for the past five or six years.  “Powerball is my favorite.  I usually spend about $10 weekly, but I’ll go up to $20 a week when the jackpot moves into the range of $100 million or more,” she said.

The player has won smaller amounts in past draws, but the $10,000 payout marks her first major prize.   She hit the big time by using Quick Pick.

“I bought the ticket at a different store than usual because we were out test driving cars,” she said.  “We also wound up buying the car, so it was a good day.”

The player’s husband checked the ticket at a retailer shortly after purchasing it and “nearly fell out of my car,” he recounted.  “I had been in court for three hours that morning, so it was very welcome surprise to get a message like that from my husband,” said the winner.

For now the winning couple will pay some bills with the winnings.  “Normally we’d splurge a little, but not right now with my husband’s work situation.  We’re just going to take it easy until he gets back to work.”  The couple’s 10-year-old daughter had a suggestion: buy some dog bones for the family pet.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Books & Tobacco located in Wilmington.

Blue Hen Scratches Diamond Into Cash

Dover, Del. – A student at the University of Delaware has scratched their way to a $10,000 prize thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The lucky player claimed a top prize in the Diamond 7s instant game on May 29.

The 19-year-old winner, who lives in Milford and wishes to remain anonymous, is an occasional lottery player.  “My friends bought a lottery ticket for me on my 18th birthday and now I buy one per month,” said the winner.  “I play at various places.”

His favorite game is the 7-11-21 scratch off game.  The player reports other smaller wins in the past, but the big win in this $5-game really surprised him.  “The first people I told were my mom and dad,” according to the player.

For now the winner plans to put the prize money directly into his bank account.  “This will make things easier,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mike’s Food Market located in Milford at 264 North Rehoboth Blvd.

Instant Ticket Ignites Cash Xplosion

Dover, Del. – A 38-year-old woman from Salisbury, Md., is $7,500 richer thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The lucky player claimed a top prize in the Cash XPlosion instant game on April 24.

Rhonda Salter, a certified nursing assistant, says she is a frequent lottery player.  She’s won several small prizes in the past, but this marks her first major win.   While she doesn’t follow a set pattern with her ticket purchases, Salter bought four tickets on the day of her $7,500 win.

Salter first became interested in the lottery when a friend asked her to play.  Now she enjoys nearly the full suite of Delaware Lottery games, including Powerball, Play 3, Play 4 and a variety of scratch offs.  While she does not expect the win to dramatically change her life, she also plans to keep playing.

Salter discovered she had won a top prize in the Cash Xplosion game shortly after purchasing and scratching it off in her car.  After looking it over, she quickly returned to the store to have the clerk scan it.  “I was shocked,” she remembers.  Her sister-in-law was the first person to hear the good news.  The money from the win will go towards fixing her Jeep, according to Salter.

The winning ticket was purchased at Delmar Liquors located in Delmar at 1 West State Street.

Selbyville Couple Reels In POWERBALL® Prize

Dover, Del. – A 62-year-old Selbyville woman is $10,000 richer thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The lucky player claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize just five days after a March 25 drawing.

The player moved to the First State three years ago and says she was drawn here because of the lower taxes.  “I’m semi-retired, but I still do some work in real estate.”  She wishes to remain anonymous.

“My husband usually purchases the tickets, but this time I picked them up,” she said.  “I guess we usually buy about $5 worth when we play, which is about once a month.  I may be doing the buying from now on!”

“We’ve played on and off since we’ve lived here,” according to the winner.  “Seeing those transit board ads is always a good reminder – especially when the number gets big!”

The anonymous player’s husband was actually the one who first learned about the win.  “I couldn’t believe it.  I wanted to wait to tell her in person, so I put the ticket on the counter and let her see for herself.”

The couple has already shared the news with family members, as well as the husband’s softball teammates.  They plan to share the winnings with their children.  “We’re still looking for another big win, but this will make us a little happier for now.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Bayville Package Store located in Selbyville at 37246 Lighthouse Rd.

Co-Workers Split 10k POWERBALL® Prize

Dover, Del. – Who knew it was so profitable to work in grocery stores these days?  Ashley Lohinetz, 19, and Chasity Childers, 20, significantly supplemented their hourly rates at the Newark Acme with a recent $10,000 POWERBALL® win through the Delaware Lottery.  The winning pair claimed their prize March 25 following a March 21 drawing.

The co-workers say they’ve had fun playing the Lottery since meeting at the Acme during their shifts.  “We play something almost every day,” said the players.  “We really like scratch-offs and just scrape together whatever change is in our pockets.  The Deal or No Deal game is one of our favorites.”  Quick Pick helped the pair land their first big pay day.

Chasity scanned the ticket at the Acme shortly after arriving at work for a March 23 morning shift.  “I couldn’t believe it at first,” she remembered.  “I called Ashley at least 50 times, but she was still sleeping.  I texted her that she needed to call me right when she got up.  We were so thrilled!”

Now the whole store knows about the big win.  “We told all the customers and of course our families and everyone we work with knows about it.  They were all congratulating us and we didn’t even know what to say.”

For now, the winners plan to put the cash towards some bills, but they’re also reserving some for shopping.  “We’re also going to give some to our parents.”

Their only regret is that they didn’t have Power Play®, which would have earned them an additional $30,000 on top of their prize.  “We’re definitely doing that from now on.  For $1 more it could have been an even bigger prize.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Acme located in Newark in Suburban Plaza.

Dover, Del. – Southern Delaware has a new Multi-Win Lotto jackpot winner, thanks to a March 20, drawing.  The lucky man wishes to remain anonymous, but it might be hard to hide the smile on his face after he collects the $89,002 prize.

Since he’s not currently working, the cash came at a great time for the player.  He learned about the big win by scanning the ticket at a licensed Lottery retailer.  So far he’s only told his wife and a select few about the good news.

The anonymous player already has a solid plan for how the winnings will be put to use.  “I have three children and I’m going to put this towards their education.”  He may even have a little to splurge on himself.

New Jeep® Puts Seaford Winner Back On The Road

Dover, Del. – Wouldn’t it be nice if you got a phone call from the Delaware Lottery every time you needed a new car?  That’s exactly what happened to Seaford resident Eric J.  The lucky 45-year-old was selected March 5 as the winner of the Delaware Lottery’s Jeep® instant game second-chance drawing.  He and his wife will soon be sharing a Jeep® Wrangler® Unlimited Rubicon® and riding in style.

The win couldn’t have come at a better time for the lucky player.  “Our car was on its last leg when the Lottery called me with the good news,” according to Eric.  “My wife and I were worried about what we were going to do with it when it finally died.  This really takes a weight off our shoulders.”

An elementary school teacher for ten years, Eric does not call himself a regular Lottery player but he’s won some cash prizes in the past.  “I’m an occasional player, but I play all the games,” he said.  “Whatever I’m in the mood for.”  He also confessed to throwing away several Jeep game scratch-offs before reading the back and realizing there was a second chance drawing he could enter with the non-winning tickets.  It’s a good thing he caught himself before it was too late.

“I’ve never owned a Jeep, but I’ve always talked about having one and I’ve wanted it for a long time,” said Eric.  “The other styles weren’t practical when you have small children, but this new 4-door Rubicon model is.”  The Jeep Rubicon comes packed with conveniences and options including a 3.8 liter V-6 engine and a three-piece removable hard top.

The Delaware native may still need to figure out what to do with the old clunker, but Eric’s decision and the disposal process should be significantly easier thanks to the Delaware Lottery and his new Jeep vehicle.

DE Lottery To Send Players On Dream Vacation

Dover, Del. – Arthur Frampton, Sr., and Dessa Jenckel are looking forward to the trip of a lifetime.  The lucky Delaware Lottery players recently won a five-day, four-night Hollywood trip for them and one guest, complete with round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and ground transfers between a Los Angeles airport, the hotel, and television studio.  Not to mention a chance to win up to $2.5 million on a television game show.

Jenckel and Frampton were independently selected on March 5 as winners of the Delaware Lottery’s Deal or No Deal instant game second-chance trip drawing.

In Hollywood, the lucky winners will be guaranteed a minimum cash prize of $5,000 and the chance to play a non-broadcast daily version of the Deal or No Deal game with Howie Mandel and the Banker for a chance to win up to $2.5 million.  In addition, Jenckel and Frampton could also be selected to participate in the daily version of the Deal or No Deal television broadcast game.

Jenckel, 88, is a Smyrna resident who fled the cold winters of upstate New York many years ago to retire in Delaware.  “I really thought someone was pulling my leg when I got the phone call from the Lottery about this.  They also sent me a letter but I guess I didn’t see it, so it was a big surprise.  I didn’t believe I’d really won right up until I came to the office in Dover to claim the prize.  I haven’t even told my kids yet because I wanted to make sure it was for real.”

The energetic octagenrian characterizes herself as a light-hearted “gambler” and looks forward to the chance for Hollywood fame and riches.  “I know not everyone gets on the show, but I’m a fun person, so I think I have a good shot to be chosen,” she said.  “I’d faint if I won one of the big prizes.”

Jenckel plans to bring Jim Truett, 83, along on the trip. The two are long-time friends who now share household chores and companionship after years of a close work relationship.

Frampton is also a retiree, and the Delaware native currently resides in Rehoboth Beach.  The 64-year-old calls himself an avid Lottery player who has enjoyed many Deal or No Deal tickets since the game’s debut.  “I play daily and I was just trying to get lucky,” he said.  “I also play the daily numbers, lotto and POWERBALL®.  We play it all!”

Delaware Lottery vacation packages are nothing new to Frampton.  “I also won a trip to Las Vegas through a POWERBALL® instant game a while back,” he said.  The trip included an appearance on the Powerball Instant Millionaire TV Game Show. “That was a great trip, and I’m sure this one will also be fun.”  The retiree will bring his wife along on the trip.

“I already watch the show and I’m excited about it,” Frampton said. “I don’t expect this to change my life, but if I win the big one you never know.”

Lottery Player Finds New Best Friend: Diamond 7s

Dover, Del. – A Wilmington man recently won his second $10,000 top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Diamond 7s Instant Game.  The lucky player stepped forward Feb. 24 to claim the prize thanks to the $5 scratch-off ticket.  Amazingly enough, the anonymous winner also won a $10,000 top prize playing the same game in December 2008.  Now he says he’ll try to pull off the unthinkable and bring home the final outstanding $10,000 prize.

The married 64-year-old has lived in Delaware for 40 years and works as a millwright.  He says he’s enjoyed the lottery since he started playing.  “I usually buy around six tickets at a time – a couple scratch-offs and some Lotto tickets,” he said.  “But I play it all.  I like everything and I play everything!”

He also has some big wins to his credit, but none larger than his two recent $10,000 scores.  “On the first win I was pretty calm when I found out I’d won.  This second one I was nervous for some reason.  I don’t know why, but I had this nervous feeling until I came in here today to claim it.”

The winner remembers his shocked reaction upon scratching the lucky ticket.  “The store owner was really excited and he congratulated me right away,” he recalled.  Not only had the player won a second top-prize, he won it in the same store.

“We looked up the odds and it was 160,000:1.  I don’t know what the odds are of me winning that third jackpot, but I’m definitely going after it.”

The winner and his wife plan to put some of the winnings towards an upcoming trip to Nashville.  The rest of the money will take care of bills and go into a savings vehicle such as a certificate of deposit, according to the winner.

Both of the winning ticket were purchased at the Books and Tobacco located in Wilmington at 4555 Kirkwood Hwy.

Georgetown Man Drives Off With Car Full Of Cash

Dover, Del. – A 59-year-old Georgetown resident recently picked up a cool $10,000 in cash thanks to POWERBALL® and the Delaware Lottery.  He claimed the prize March 4 following a Feb. 18 drawing.  The used car salesman is a Delaware native and long-time player.

“I’ve played ever since they started selling them,” said the winner.  “I buy my tickets all over Sussex and Kent County.”  He may have found his lucky store however, as this is the second time he’s won $10,000 at a licensed retailer in Milford.

As he says, “I got into this because I liked to play the lotto.  Now I only play POWERBALL®, but I play quite a bit.  I usually spend a couple hundred dollars at a time.”

The plethora of tickets explains why it took the man a bit longer to come forward for his prize.  “I checked my tickets at the store on the scanner this Sunday and that’s when I knew.  I had quite a few to check.”

So far the winner has only told his wife about the prize, and he plans to keep it that way.  “We’re just putting it in the bank.  No special plans for the money right now.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Uptown Liquors located in Milford at 207 NE Front St.

This is the first time the lucky player has struck it rich with a major win, but she is adamant about plans to try for more wins with the Delaware Lottery.  “Of course I plan to keep playing!”

She discovered the good news by checking the numbers by phone with the Lottery’s player information line: 1-800-338-6200.  “I didn’t believe it,” she remembered.  She informed her husband’s family shortly after the thrilling news sank in.

Final $25,000 Raffle Winner Comes Forward

The lucky winner is a registered nurse and considers herself a regular Delaware Lottery player.  The game she plays most often is Powerball®, which piqued her interest after she saw a large jackpot advertised on a highway billboard.

The anonymous winner had claimed prizes of up to $100 in the past, but this was her first major pay day.  And it only took her one RAFFLE ticket to land the big $25,000 prize.

She discovered the good news while checking several tickets at a gas station.  “I could not believe it at first,” recalls the winner.  “I scanned the ticket three times.”  The first person she told was her significant other.

She plans to pay off her car with the winnings, but says the win is unlikely to change her life.  One thing is for sure, she plans to continue playing the Delaware Lottery.

Heavy Equipment Operator Hauls In Major Cash

Dover, Del. – The scenario is becoming all too familiar: A 47-year-old New Castle man was in danger of losing his house due to foreclosure.  Fortunately, this story is likely to have a happy ending thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  That’s because this Delaware native recently landed a $54,020 prize by playing MULTI-WIN LOTTO.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, stepped forward on Feb. 2 to claim the prize.  He works as a heavy equipment operator and says he’s been a regular lottery player for years.  POWERBALL® is his other favorite game.

The big prize was nothing new to this player.  “I also won about $108,000 in 2002,” he said.  This time around the anonymous winner used his own set of lucky numbers.  “I use birthdays.”

He found out about the win by checking his ticket in the store he frequents every other day.  “I got a great big smile on my face right away when I found out I’d won,” he remembered.  The winner is hoping not too many other people saw that grin because he’s trying to keep the news under wraps.

“This win has definitely changed my life.  I was in foreclosure and I’m hopeful this money will be enough to get me out of that.  I’m using the money to save my home,” the winner said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Garfield Liquors located in New Castle at 3003 New Castle Ave.

POWERBALL® Lights Up For Odessa Player

Dover, Del. – A 39-year-old Odessa resident came forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize on Jan. 27 thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The player, who struck it rich in a Jan. 17 drawing, works as an electrician and wishes to remain anonymous.

The winner moved from New York to Delaware and now plays the Lottery with a regular pattern.  “I started playing Mega Millions in the 90s trying to win that easy money.  Now I play both weekly POWERBALL® drawings and I buy three tickets per draw,” he said.  “I also like playing scratch offs.”

The $10,000 prize was the first major payout for the anonymous player, who used the Quick Pick option.  “I couldn’t believe it,” he said.  “My mother was the first person I told and she reminded me that there were a few things she needed for her house that I can now go out and get her.”

“I wasn’t waiting on purpose to claim the prize, I didn’t even realize I had a winning ticket,” said the player.  “When I checked it at the Super G in Middletown the clerk told me I’d won, but I didn’t really react right away.  He said ‘You don’t look very happy,’ and I told him I’d be a lot happier once I got that cash.”

For now the winner plans to treat himself to a delicious dinner out, but he’s undecided about what he’ll do with the rest of the prize money.  “It’s going to help out with some bills that are overdue.  I know that.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shore Stop Food Stores located in Middletown at 38 East Main St.

Dover, Del. – As Capitol Hill politicians squabble over the details of a national stimulus package, the Delaware Lottery is handing out its own relief to a Newark resident who previously worked for General Motors.  The lucky 58-year-old recently claimed $70,100 thanks to a Jan. 26 MULTI-WIN LOTTO drawing.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, has played the Lottery for quite a few years, spending $30-$40 on tickets in most weeks.  Besides MULTI-WIN LOTTO, he also enjoys playing POWERBALL®.  “I’ve been praying to God that we could hit it big and help our children and grandchildren and others that need it,” he said.

It as actually the player’s wife who discovered the good news.  “I didn’t have my glasses with me when I brought the ticket to the store to get it checked, so I had to ask for some help and hold it real close to the scanner,” she remembered.  “I heard the music start playing, but I didn’t know what the prize was.  I have some friends at the store though, so when they told me how much it was we started celebrating.  I called my husband immediately.”

The couple now plans to give some of the winnings to their children and “hide the rest.”  “Every penny helps and this will change our lives a bit,” said the winner.  “We’re thankful to God for what we got.”

$15,000 Instant Payout Worth The Wait For PA Couple

Dover, Del. – A Chadds Ford, Pa., couple claimed a top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s INSTANT PAYOUT instant game on Feb 2.  The lucky pair wishes to remain anonymous, but there’s no hiding their happiness over the big win.

Despite living across the state line, they make a point to pick up tickets for PLAY 3, PLAY 4, or scratch off games whenever passing through Claymont and other areas where Delaware Lottery tickets are sold.

The lucky retirees recounted how they discovered the good news:  “I bought two tickets and scratched them off, but I didn’t have my glasses in my pocket.  I had the clerk check them for me because I couldn’t tell whether I’d won anything.  He put it in the machine and told me right away I was a winner.  I assumed it was just $20 or $30 winner.  I knew that my husband was sitting in the car probably getting mad at me for taking so long, but he wasn’t mad anymore after I had him look at the ticket and he saw it was a $15,000 winner!”

The winners have already shared the good news with their kids and other family members.  They also expected to pay some bills with the cash.  “It’s going to be a big help.  We’re going to keep buying tickets when we’re in town.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Delaware News Center located in Wilmington.

Newark Winners Rolling In The Money

Dover, Del. – A Newark couple has won a stack of cash from the Delaware Lottery that should help ease them through their retirement years.  Robert Wesselman and Judith Moyer claimed a $100,000 top prize on Jan. 28 after playing IN THE MONEY, a $20 Instant Game.  Wesselman, 71, and Moyer, 69, have decided to share the prize.

The lucky players say they spend about $25 a week on scratch-off tickets and also enjoy POWERBALL® and HOT LOTTO®.  And they are no strangers to winning, having cashed in on hundreds of dollars over the years.  “We’ve always played to make a few bucks,” said Wesselman.  “We put all of our winnings over the years in an envelope that we call the Florida Fund,” Moyer added.

The pair was unaware of their good luck for nearly a week.  “I carried that ticket around in my pocket for four days before she scratched it off while we were driving together in the car one day,” Wesselman remembered.  “First she says, ‘We won $100!’  Then she thought I gave her a phony ticket as a trick and made me pull over to look at it.”  After that, the couple went straight to a store where Delaware Lottery tickets are sold to get it checked. “I thought it was going to put her in the hospital when we found out what it was really worth.”

Luckily the prize turned out to be even bigger than they originally thought.  “We’re probably going to go to Florida a little earlier now and put the rest in the bank,” they agreed.  They also plan to continue playing the Delaware Lottery in search of The Big One.  “He’s going to keep buying and I’m going to keep scratching,” said Moyer.

The winning ticket was purchased at Samson’s Country Maid located in Newark at 14 Polly Drummond Shopping Center.

Dover, Del. – A 69-year-old Townsend resident has claimed a $50,000 top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s DOLLAR $IGN$ instant game.  The player, originally from Centreville, came forward on Dec. 17 after realizing he’d scored one of the grand prizes in the $20 game.

The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been a regular player since the Delaware Lottery started operating in the state.  “I’ve been chasing the easy money for years,” the winner said.  “That’s why I started playing in the first place.”  He’s won several prizes over the years, including $5,000 in cash last November.

The winner said he could tell right away that he’d won a major prize.  “I wanted to know right away when the Dover (Lottery) office opened so I could get it confirmed,” he said.  “The first person I told was the clerk in the store where I checked my ticket.  He jumped up and down and hugged me.  He was just an unbelievably nice person.”

POWERBALL® Numbers Compute For Accountant

Dover, Del. – A 33-year-old Wilmington man claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize on Jan. 16 thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The player, who stuck it rich in a Jan. 7 drawing, wishes to remain anonymous.

The accountant said he is not a regular player, but he typically buys $10 worth of tickets at a time.  That turned out to be a winning formula.

He remembered being shocked after checking his ticket in the store.  “The first person I told was the man next to me at the store.”

The winner did not have any immediate plans for the winnings, but said he would likely put it into savings for now.

He said he plans to continue playing Delaware Lottery games and named Powerball as his favorite game.  The recent win is only likely to reinforce those thoughts sentiments.

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located on Sharply Road.

Police Officer Nabs $10,000 Prize

Dover, Del. – Foul play is not suspected in the case of a recent $10,000 POWERBALL® winner.  The prize goes to a 24-year-old police officer.  He came forward to claim the money on Jan. 7, and had his partner to thank for introducing him to the Delaware Lottery

The Camden man, who wishes to remain anonymous, only plays once a year and says the reason he purchased a ticket on this occasion was because his partner reminded him about the sizable jackpot.  “I bought one ticket, but the odds worked out alright for me anyway.”  He used the Quick Pick option.

The officer checked his ticket on the Internet and says he was very surprised to discover he’d won.  “I was shocked because I knew what the odds were,” he remembers.  “I told my partner right away, along with a couple of other guys at work.”  Now he plans to pay off his car and save the rest of the money.

“This is the first time I’ve ever won, but I’ll probably keep playing,” the winner reported.  “I want to win more now.”  So far Powerball is the only game he has tried.

HOT LOTTO® Sizzles For Maryland Winner

Dover, Del. – A 50-year-old Joppa, Md., man may have considered jumping for joy after his recent $30,000 HOT LOTTO® win.  The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, warmed his winter considerably by landing a big win through the Delaware Lottery and the game’s Sizzler option on Jan. 3.

“I’ve played every Saturday for a while, but I’m not the regular player – my wife is.  I usually just buy the tickets for her,” the winner explained.  “We’ve been playing Powerball® ever since there was a big drawing that caught our attention a few years ago.”  Now the player also includes Hot Lotto and Multi-Win Lotto among their games of choice, picking up one ticket per draw as often as possible.

Fittingly, the players wife was also first to discover the big news about their win.  She dialed the Lottery’s free 1-800-338-6200 to verify the win – three times, in fact.  “It was 5:30 a.m. and I was already in my car about to leave for work when she called me and told me we’d won,” he remembers.  “I just went to work like usual that day and kept real calm.  No one knows that I’ve won and we plan to keep it that way.”

The lucky couple will stash the money in their savings account for now.  “With this economy we might need it for a rainy day,” said the winner.  “I’ll continue to work, but I was just one number off of the bigger prize.  If we had won that it might be a different story.  We’ll keep playing until we get that bigger one.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell Food Mart located in Newark at 2410 Pulaski Highway.
