POWERBALL® WIN PROVIDES TRICKS AND TREATS

Dover, DE – A Wilmington man recently stepped forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize from an Oct. 31 drawing.  A long-time Delaware Lottery player, the 51-year-old Wilmington native works in industrial sales and says this is his first big win.

“I buy a different amount of tickets each week depending on how high the jackpot goes,” according to winner, who wishes to remain anonymous.  “We play whenever it’s convenient to stop in for tickets.  It’s amazing how some people don’t think a jackpot of a few million is enough incentive to buy tickets these days.”

Consistent smaller wins kept the winner coming back for more, and he wanted to share his initial excitement of such a larger prize with his wife. The Delaware Lottery player remembers how the scenario unfolded:

“I checked the winning ticket Sunday, by myself, and the next day I asked my wife to stop at 7-11 with me.  I told her to come in so she could see how to check tickets in case she ever went by herself.  I had a few tickets and first asked the clerk to check the ticket that hadn’t won the big prize.  That one was a $3 winner and we were joking about how it was such a big win.  Then I had the clerk scan the $10,000 ticket when my wife was looking at the reader so she could have the same experience I did.  She couldn’t believe it!”

“I’m going around telling everybody about this one,” the winner says.  “It’s not like we’re retiring on this or anything, but it’s a really nice win.”  The winner plans to buy his wife a new horse saddle and put some of the winnings towards a family trip to Ireland.  “I’m also going to save up a little and pay some bills.  I’m not quitting my job just yet.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Fairfax News, located at 2121 Concord Pike in Wilmington.

RAFFLE COMES BUT ONCE A YEAR, FOR NEWARK WINNER

Dover, DE – A Newark woman, who named the DELAWARE RAFFLE as her favorite Delaware Lottery game, recently became $25,000 richer thanks to a winning ticket.

The lucky player phoned the Delaware Lottery’s Player Information Line shortly after the Dec. 31 drawing to check her ticket numbers (1-800-338-6200 in Delaware and 302-736-1436 out-of-state).  In fact, she checked several times.  “I just couldn’t believe it the first time I heard it,” she remembered.  “I must have called five times.”  She was a winner every time.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, expects the winnings, which total $18,750 after deducting Federal withholding taxes, to cover many bills and set her family on the road to becoming debt free.  “It’s a wonderful feeling,” she said “to be climbing out of that hole.”

Her one complaint is that the RAFFLE game is only played once a year.  “I started playing the RAFFLE last year – and it’s the only game I play – but I love it,” said the happy winner.  “I only bought one ticket for it and I can’t believe I won!”

The young winner may not be a regular Lottery player, but she certainly plans to keep playing this particular game.  “There’s no way I can stop playing the DELAWARE RAFFLE at this point,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Christiana Boscov’s located in Christiana Town Center at 361 West Main Street.

LUCKY NUMBERS ADD UP TO BIG POWERBALL® WIN

Dover, DE – The Delaware Lottery helped a Smyrna resident end 2007 in style by awarding him a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize just before the start of the New Year.  The 35-year-old Delaware native pocketed $7,500 (after Federal withholding taxes) thanks to a Dec. 29 drawing, and he says the big win will change his life.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, struck it rich by purchasing a single POWERBALL® ticket at his local Acme food store.  “I usually just buy one, and I guess I was lucky enough that that’s all I needed to buy,” he said.  Maybe that’s because he had some karma working in his favor.

“I usually play numbers like my family’s birthdays and my anniversary,” the man recalls.  “Two months ago, though, I ate at this Chinese restaurant and I won playing the numbers that were in my fortune cookie. They really were lucky after all.”

The project manager discovered he’d won by calling to check the numbers Dec. 30 after the previous night’s drawing.  “When I found out I’d hit it for $10,000 I just let out a ‘Woo-Hoo!’  Then I obviously told my wife right away.”

A finished basement may soon be in the works for the lucky winner, but he pledges to put a major portion of the money aside for his children.  “This is just going to make everything in my life that much easier.”

The Delaware Lottery regular also won $100 in 2007, cites POWERBALL® as his favorite game and says he plans to keep playing the numbers.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Smyrna Acme, located at 236 East Glenwood Ave.

CHINESE RESTAURANT CROWNS HOCKESSIN WOMAN WITH $10,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Hockessin resident recently stepped forward to claim a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize.  The lucky woman is an occasional Delaware Lottery player whose previous high-win was $5.

“I’m not a real frequent player, so this is quite a treat,” said the winner.  “One of the reasons I started playing was because of a Lottery ticket retailer right next to a favorite Chinese restaurant of mine, The Crownery.”

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, used QuickPick to select the winning numbers for the Nov. 2 drawing that resulted in her good fortune.  “I’ll sometimes buy five POWERBALL® tickets or so, but this time I think it was just four,” the winner recalled.

The dental hygienist discovered she’d won after checking her ticket at a Books & Tobacco on Kirkwood Highway.  “I was completely surprised to find I’d won,” the winner remembered.  “I told my husband right away, but I’m not about to start telling everyone I know.”

For now, the lucky player says she has no plans for the winnings.  “This will certainly make things more comfortable in my life.  Now that I’ve had a taste of success I definitely plan to keep playing the Delaware Lottery.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Books & Tobacco store located in Hockessin’s Lantana Square.

POWERBALL® PRIZE IS NICE HOLIDAY BONUS FOR MARYLAND WOMAN

Dover, DE – The holidays bring a lot of surprises, and Peggy Wilkins of Pittsville, MD got a big one on December 19, 2007 when she won a $10,000 POWERBALL® drawing prize.  The manufacturing worker, who has been playing the Lottery for about eight years, said this is her first time winning such a large amount, and she could not have been more excited.

“I just didn’t believe I’d won at first,” said Peggy.  “I had to go around the counter to look at the computer screen with the cashiers and see the readout for myself.”

The first person Peggy called was her husband, who she phoned from her car in the store’s parking lot.  They each then started getting in touch with other family members to tell them the good news.

When asked what she would do with her winnings, Peggy was thoughtful, saying “It’s money you’re not expecting, so when you get it you need to take care of things you normally wouldn’t think about.”  She plans on putting most of the money away in savings, and will use some for family matters that need attending.

ACCOUNTANT’S NUMBERS ADD UP FOR POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Delaware accountant recently claimed his $10,000 prize from the September 15, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing, and he plans to stick to his personal system for collecting and checking tickets the way that he has always done.

“After I buy my POWERBALL® ticket, I throw it in a drawer and wait a few months before checking through the collection,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous.  “Whenever I have a spare moment I check through to look for number matches, and this time I hit it big.”

The winner’s initial reaction was disbelief, and after he put the ticket by itself in a safer place, he told his wife that they’d won.  Taking a cue from the movie Jerry Maguire, she shouted “Show me the money!” making her husband laugh.

The Delaware Lottery reminds players that prizes must be claimed within a year of the drawing date, and they always have free access the past winning numbers on the www.delottery.com site.

NATIONAL GUARDSWOMAN TOPPLES MONOPOLY

Dover, DE – Private First Class Stokesbury is used to training for emergency maneuvers in the First State and beyond.  A member of the Delaware Army National Guard, the 18-year-old was recently called into action to secure her $7,500 MONOPOLY instant-game top-prize winnings.

In just her second time ever buying a scratch-off ticket, PFC Stokesbury struck it rich.  “I actually got into playing (The Delaware Lottery) because a friend of mine,” she says.  “He plays all the time but hasn’t won big.  I might be his good luck charm from now on.”

Luck was certainly on the Delaware native’s side Dec. 13.

“My dad and friend freaked out at first,” she remembers.  “I scratched it off but they saw before me that I’d won.  Then I saw it and freaked out too.  We had the lady check it three times!”

While some of the winnings have already gone towards last-minute Christmas shopping, PFC Stokesbury plans to avoid any extravagant spending-sprees.  “We’re not going out to the most expensive restaurant or the casino or anything.  This will definitely help more with some bills and things.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Delaware City Texaco.

BIG WINNER NETS “SPECTACULAR” PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Newark couple recently became the latest Delawareans to claim an instant game top-prize from the Delaware Lottery.  A 67-year-old retiree and his wife scratched their way to a $20,000 win thanks to BIG WINNER SPECTACULAR.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, considers himself a regular Lottery player, and also enjoys the Delaware Lottery’s popular PICK 3 and PICK 4 games.  But his daughter is partly to thank for the big prize.  She bought him the ticket.

“I’ve played the Lottery just for entertainment for years.  I usually get or ask for four or five tickets at a time, but this time it was just one ticket,” he recalls.  “A $20,000 return on one $10 (BIG WINNER SPECTACULAR) is a pretty nice.”

Kudos should also go to the man’s wife.  She scratched the ticket.  In all it was a total family effort.

The couple has not yet hatched any extravagant plans for the winnings.  For now they plan to put it towards their savings and keep playing the Lottery.

The winning ticket was purchased at Airport Liquors located in New Castle at 202 New Churchmans Rd.

COWORKERS CLAIM POWERBALL® PURSE

Dover, DE – A group of Pennsylvania coworkers will certainly have something to talk about at their office holiday party this year.  The lucky 40-person cluster recently claimed a $10,000 prize thanks to a Dec. 1, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing.

The group representative, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that many of the winners live in Pennsylvania, where the electronics company they work for is located.  “We don’t discriminate when it comes to Lottery games.  We’ll play whatever jackpot gets the biggest or whichever tickets are easiest to get.”

The designated ticket-purchaser discovered they had won while checking the numbers on her computer Sunday morning.  The Delaware Lottery reminds players they always have free access the past winning numbers on the www.delottery.com site.

“I was shaking.  I couldn’t stop shaking,” she remembers.  “I wanted to be sure (and tell everyone at once), so I waited until Monday at work to make the announcement.”

Many of the officemates have pooled their resources for years, but the $7,500 payout (the prize total after federal withholding taxes) is their first time wading into five-digit winnings, says the woman who claimed the winnings on the office’s behalf.  “We’ve played for 10 years off and on, but we’ve only won small prizes before.  We usually put $2 each towards both of the weekly drawings.”

The winning ticket, generated by Quick Pick, was purchased at the Christiana Mall Boscov’s.

Now their only dilemma is dividing the prize and figuring out what to do with the money.  “I’m just going to save it, or maybe put it towards a TV,” says the anonymous prize claimer.  “It’s a nice little Christmas bonus.”

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER FOR POWERBALL® WINNER

Dover, DE – A Bear resident recently claimed a $10,000 POWERBALL® prize, nearly one month after his numbers came through in a Nov. 7, 2007 drawing.  The 52-year-old man, who wishes to remain anonymous, says the money comes at a great time for him and his family.

The winner works at a Delaware City refinery and says he is a long-time Delaware Lottery player.  “I started buying tickets in Pennsylvania years ago, even before Delaware had a lottery,” says the winner.  “Now I don’t have to go as far, but I still buy a ticket for most every Wednesday and Saturday POWERBALL® drawing.  It’s a great chance to win much more than you can usually earn at work!”

At first, the lucky Delaware Lottery gamer was in disbelief about the win.  “I keep all my Lottery tickets in the car and usually bring them in to a store to check them once a month,” he says.  “The clerk ran it through the machine and told me I’d won, but I couldn’t tell how much it was – I just saw a bunch of zeros.  I really didn’t believe it at first.  I even went to three more stores and had them check the ticket just to be sure.”

The New Jersey-born man isn’t expecting the $10,000 to change his life entirely, but the money will be a welcome stocking-stuffer around the holidays.  “This money will definitely help out with the Christmas gifts for our kids and grand kids.  It will also help us pay some bills, splurge a little and maybe pay for some projects down the road.”

The winner purchased his ticket at the Bear Safeway located at 1101 Governors Place, relying on Quick Pick to select the winning combination.

GEORGETOWN MAN WINS $10,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

Dover, DE – Diego Gonzalez recently claimed a $10,000 prize from the Nov. 24 POWERBALL® drawing.  The 34-year-old Georgetown resident has enjoyed playing the Delaware Lottery for several years, but the $7,500 take-home prize (after federal withholding taxes) is his largest to date.

Gonzalez, who works for Purdue, says he usually purchases tickets for the twice-weekly POWERBALL® drawings.  His own set of randomly-selected lucky numbers produced the winning combination.

“I’ve won some smaller jackpots in the past,” says the Delaware native, “but this is my first big win.  POWERBALL® has always been my favorite Lottery game, and I plan to keep playing.”

Gonzalez discovered his good fortune when checking his ticket against a store print out of recent winning numbers.  “My girlfriend was the first person I told.  We were both pretty excited.”

Although Gonzalez has no immediate plans for the money, he expects it will help make things more comfortable in his life.  “This is a great prize and I’m very happy to win it.”

BEGINNER’S LUCK MAKES MONEY FOR DOVER WOMAN

Dover, DE – The game was MONEY MAKER, and it lived up to its billing.  A Dover woman’s first Delaware Lottery instant game experience was surely a memorable one.  It only took her one ticket, but a $25,000 top prize tends to make a lasting impression.

“I don’t usually play the Lottery, but a friend of mine who plays asked me to pick up tickets for her so I bought a few for myself,” recalls the winner – who wishes to remain anonymous.

The last time the 49-year-old Delaware-native played a Lottery game was back in the ‘90s, but the recent win may rekindle her interest.

“I couldn’t believe it at first.  I just kept reading the directions over and over,” she says.

The lucky winner, who works in the finance field, plans to invest a healthy portion of the prize (which comes to $18,750 after taxes).  She says she’ll put the rest towards a great Christmas.

RETIREE’S POWERBALL® WIN A WELCOME HOLIDAY GIFT

Dover, DE – Raymond Shearer is Delaware’s latest $10,000 POWERBALL® winner, and the 63-year-old says the late-November win will help him enjoy the holidays more than ever this year.

“First I’m going to pay a few bills with the money, but I expect it to just make our holiday season a little nicer overall.”

A long-time Delaware Lottery Players Club member, Shearer discovered he’d won after checking his ticket against the Lottery-provided winning-numbers e-mail.  “It was 12:30 a.m. when I looked at my e-mail [for the drawing results] that night,” he recalls.  “My wife was already asleep, but I woke her up to tell her.  She was pleasantly surprised.”

It’s free and easy to join the Players Club online. Members can sign up to have winning numbers, hot game updates, the latest news and more delivered straight to their inbox.

Shearer, who lives in Lincoln, has enjoyed playing the Lottery for years.  “There’s always that chance you’ll hit the big one.”  Besides playing instant games, he enjoys selecting his own numbers every week for the Wednesday and Saturday POWERBALL® drawing.  “It’s always a variety of different birthdays, ages, and addresses that I mix together.”

Now retired, Shearer previously lived in Maryland while working for Washington Gas.

SCRATCH OFF WIN FILLS NURSE’S PRESCRIPTION

Dover, DE – An Ardentown woman is $50,000 wealthier after claiming a top prize in the Delaware Lottery’s Super Cash Spectacular instant game, and the lucky winner says the money couldn’t have come at a better time.  Jackie Nicklas’ win came on the final day of her boyfriend’s cancer treatments, and with her 27-year-old’s wedding coming up in July; Nicklas says the cash is like a God send.

“When I saw ‘Go to Lottery office’ on the store’s lottery ticket machine I was in disbelief,” Nicklas recalls.  “I left my glasses case there in the store I was so shocked.”

While Lottery games are nothing new to the 52-year-old Terry Children’s Psychiatric Center nurse, the big win was a first.

“I buy Lottery tickets every day and I’ve been playing since the Delaware Lottery started, but I’ve never won anything like this before,” says the state employee.  “I like Pick 3, Pick 4, scratch offs, Multi-Win Lotto and Powerball®, so I guess you could say I like them all!”

Nicklas relies on a set number series for other Lottery games (mixing birthdays, the numbers in her mother’s address and other significant digits), but this time the $20 card and a coin did all the work.

“I already know what I’m doing with the money,” says the Wilmington-area resident.  “First I’m buying a Volkswagen Rabbit with a sun roof.  Then I’m redoing the kitchen and living room – without taking out any loans.  This win is really going to make everything going on in my life much easier.”

Nicklas purchased the winning ticket at Claymont News & Gifts located at 2711 Philadelphia Pike .

$200,000 POWERBALL® WIN PUTS TRUCKER IN FAST LANE

Dover, DE – A Kent County truck driver should have no problem at the toll plaza the next time he rolls through, thanks to the Delaware Lottery.  The 23-year-old man’s $150,000 win, which represents his $200,000 POWERBALL® prize minus federal tax withholdings, should also cover more than a few trips to the gas pump.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, started playing the Lottery last year but already has a few wins to his name.  “I just started playing because I was walking around with some extra money,” he says.  “I typically buy $5 to $10 worth of tickets at a time now.”

The anonymous winner names POWERBALL® as his favorite Delaware Lottery game, and the recent payout is unlikely to change his mind.  “My parents were the first people I told about the win,” recalls the Delaware native.

He is sure the prize will put him ahead of the game.  “The first thing I’m going to do with the money is pay off some loans,” he says.  “It will feel great to be debt free.”

The winning numbers were selected using the Quick Pick feature and the ticket was purchased from the 3rd Base Liquors located at 5 Front St. in Frederica.

SECOND-CHANCE LOTTERY PLAYER WINS FIRST-CLASS NASCAR® TREATMENT

Dover, DE – A New Castle County woman recently found her way to the winner’s circle thanks to the Delaware Lottery’s officially licensed NASCAR® Instant Game.  The 51-year-old entered her originally non-winning ticket through the Lottery’s Web site to win a trip to a 2008 NASCAR® sanctioned race as part of a complete prize package.

Marilyn P. R., who preferred not to disclose her full name, calls herself a long-time Lottery gamer.  “But I only play games where there are second chance drawings and I’ve done pretty well for myself that way,” she says.  “I think most people don’t take the time to re-enter, but it’s pretty easy to do it online – and it’s free.  I’ve won some great prizes over the years by doing that.  I’ve even won a NASCAR® jacket that I’m going to wear to the race!”

The postal worker’s good fortune has convinced some skeptics around her that the Lottery truly awards prizes to real people.  “My mother and my co-workers say I make them jealous because I’m always winning,” Marilyn says.  “They also tell me they’re going to start playing because now they know it’s the real thing.”

The race trip package includes a three-night trip for two to the winner’s choice of any NASCAR® sanctioned race for the 2008 season.  It also covers round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transfers, $500 spending cash, and a racetrack VIP package including pre-race pit passes, or hospitality tent admission or an additional $500.

“When (the Lottery official) called to tell me I’d won I was worried at first because I couldn’t find the ticket,” according to Marilyn.  “I was still crying a little and having a hard time reading the numbers, though it’s not a bad way to be woken up on a Friday morning.”

Marilyn remains undecided about which race she’ll attend but says she’s leaning towards a race in Daytona, Fla.  “I’ve already been to California, but I haven’t been down to Florida before.”

POWERBALL® PONIES UP $10,000 FOR WILMINGTON WINNER

Dover, DE – A Wilmington man’s recent POWERBALL® win proves you can leave the racetrack happy even if your horse doesn’t find the winner’s circle.  James Green’s work with racehorses at Delaware Park Racetrack might give him a leg up when it comes to picking the ponies, but even he’s unlikely to have ever won $10,000 this easily.

Green has played the Delaware Lottery for years, but he says the biggest prize he’d netted before the Nov. 3 drawing was $100.  He cites POWERBALL® and PLAY 3 as his favorite games.  “I just started playing because I was hoping to get lucky,” says the 64-year-old.  The recent win surely reinforced those hopes, as Green says he’ll definitely keep playing.

The Wilmington resident discovered he’d won when checking the winning POWERBALL® numbers in the Sunday newspaper.  He didn’t immediately realize the extent of his good fortune.  “At first I thought it was just a couple of dollars,” says Green.  “I was excited to find out it was $10,000.”

The trainer already knows what he wants to do with at least part of his newfound wealth and, fittingly, it involves horsepower – of the automobile variety.  “I’m thinking about buying a new car,” Green says of his plans for the $7,500 he’ll take home after federal withholding taxes are deducted from the winnings.  He also expects the prize money to help him pay off bills and generally improve his day-to-day life.

The winning ticket was purchased at Delaware Park Racetrack located at 777 Delaware Park Boulevard in Wilmington, where Green says he typically purchases one $5 ticket twice weekly.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $2.6 billion to the state’s General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. $200,000 POWERBALL® PAYOUT FOR SUSSEX COUNTY MAN

Dover, DE – A Georgetown resident finds himself $200,000 richer (minus federal taxes) thanks to a friend’s advice and a winning POWERBALL® ticket.

The 38-year-old U.S. immigrant, who makes his living as a knife sharpener, is a regular patron of the Delaware Lottery and says he began playing when a co-worker suggested the idea.  That same close friend was also the first person he told about his windfall after the Oct. 13, 2007 drawing.

Citing POWERBALL® as his favorite game, the winner (who wishes to remain anonymous) says this is easily the largest prize he’s ever won.  If he needed any reason to keep playing, he need look no farther.

The married father remembers first being happy and surprised before starting to jump for joy in the store where he scanned the ticket.  Five of the six winning numbers (21, 30, 34, 36, 49, 42) were accurately selected by the Quick Pick feature, which missed only the red POWERBALL®.

For now the winner has no plans for the money other than bill payments, but he also expects the big win will make life for him and his family much easier.

The winning ticket was purchased at Bodies Dairy Market located at 116 Magnolia St. in Milton, where the man says he typically purchases one or two tickets at a time.

BIG POWERBALL® WIN FOR LONG-TIME PLAYER

Dover, DE – Maybe there’s something in the water.  The third Newark man in seven days recently stepped forward to claim a Delaware Lottery prize of at least $10,000.  The 54-year-old building contractor joined the trio thanks to an Oct. 12, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing.

The Delaware native (who wishes to remain anonymous) has won several small prizes in the past, but says this is his first time taking home a major purse.  “It’s great to win such a big prize all at once.  I absolutely plan to keep playing the same exact way.”

The lucky winner says he’s played the lottery for 15 years, purchasing three POWERBALL® tickets every Wednesday and Saturday on the way home from work.  He named MULTI-WIN LOTTO as his other favorite game and says he always relies on the Quick Pick feature to generate his numbers.

The $10,000 winner discovered his good fortune by checking the numbers in Saturday’s newspaper.  “I still had no idea how much I’d won though,” he recalls.  “I thought I was seeing things at first and I said, ‘I’m coming [to Dover] tomorrow to pick up that check.’”

Most of the winnings will go directly into the bank, according to the Newark man, who purchased his ticket at a Country Maid store in Newark.

OFFICER'S PERSERVERANCE PAYS OFF WITH $10,000 POWERBALL® WIN

Dover, DE – A Middletown man whose weekly shopping list includes $10 worth of POWERBALL® tickets was recently rewarded for his tenacity.  The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, picked up $10,004 in a Sept. 19 drawing and says he won’t abandon the ritual any time soon.

The police officer makes a point to stop Wednesdays and Saturdays “every single week” for POWERBALL® tickets (and a coffee) on the way to work.  The Delaware native knows the Schoolside Getty’s morning cashier so well he thought it was a joke when the employee said he’d won.  “I thought he was kidding at first.  We always play around so I didn’t believe him right away.  I’ve never won anything before!”

Although the 46-year-old usually picks some of his own numbers for other lottery games, he relies on the Quick Pick feature for POWERBALL®.  He may not have come up with the five lucky numbers on his own, but he does know exactly how he’ll use the newfound cash.  “We just put up a lot of money on my son’s wedding and this will help us recuperate from that.”

The father of two says he’s enjoyed POWERBALL® and other Delaware Lottery games for years.  “I just thought it was a neat idea.  I got into the POWERBALL® game when it was introduced and I’ve been playing ever since.”  Although he’s never taken home any substantial prizes in the past, the anonymous winner says the promise of a big reward always kept him coming back.  “Now it’s getting me to start thinking about doing the Power Play®.”

The $1 Power Play® option guarantees ticket purchasers will multiply any set cash prizes 2, 3, 4 or 5 times, as determined by a multiplier number selected at random for each POWERBALL® drawing.  To add the feature, lottery players can mark the Power Play® option on their slips or ask their retailers to add it for them.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Schoolside Getty located at 905 East Basin Road in New Castle.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $2.5 billion to the state’s General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. NEW CASTLE WOMAN’S DREAM BECOMES $10,000 POWERBALL® REALITY

Dover, DE – A Delaware woman who says she started playing the lottery out of “a hope and a dream” woke up $10,000 richer Sept. 26.  Audris Dickerson can stop pinching herself – the money is real.

The 39-year-old New Castle resident has been an avid Delaware Lottery player for years and says she buys one or two tickets for every POWERBALL® drawing.  It took only $1 to make Dickerson the state’s most recent $10,000 winner that Wednesday.

Using a slate of self-picked random numbers, the mother of two owes thanks to no one but her own intuition.  “Usually I pick my own numbers for [MULTI-WIN] LOTTO and use the Quick Pick option for POWERBALL® because there are too many numbers to choose from.  But this time I was just feeling lucky.”

Dickerson discovered just how lucky she was that night when watching the live television drawing.  “I wrote down the numbers as they were coming up and thought, ‘They look familiar.’”  Her good fortune carried her to within one white ball of the POWERBALL® jackpot, but Dickerson says she is very grateful for what she won and plans to keep playing.  “I already have some numbers picked out for Saturday’s drawing,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Christiana Dash In located at 288 Christiana Road in New Castle.

As for her initial plans for the money, Dickerson said she’d stock up on groceries and throw herself a birthday bash.  “I turn 40 in November so I’d like to treat myself to a great party.”  Her recent win should go a long way towards ensuring a very happy birthday.

KENT COUNTY WOMAN SCRATCHES, MATCHES, AND CASHES IN FOR $15,000 TOP PRIZE

Dover, DE – A Dover-area woman recently claimed one of the three $15,000 top prizes in The Delaware Lottery’s Match for Cash Instant Game.  The scratch-off winner says she is a long-time lottery player with numerous past wins, but has never before enjoyed such a large payout.

“At first when I started scratching the ticket I thought it was a loser,” the lucky winner told lottery officials.  “The money came at a great time, I really needed it,’ she added.  “I’m going to pay off some bills, surprise my brother and send him some money, and go purchase more [Instant Games].”

Retired since 1988, the Kent County woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) considers herself a true Delawarean after living in the state for 20 years.  “I love The Delaware Lottery.  I’ve won many times through the years and I know their policies support us in-state winners.”

The frequent lottery player is not partial to any one lottery game in particular, perhaps because she has experienced such good luck with a wide variety.  “I like them all – especially if you win.”

With one more Match for Cash top prize remaining another $10 ticket purchase could soon lead to a $15,000 windfall.  The anonymous winner’s advice: “You just have to go out there and grab that winner.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Super Soda Center located on Saulsbury Road in Dover.

CLAYMONT MAN NEARLY TOSSES WINNING POWERBALL® TICKET

Dover, DE – A Claymont man’s recent POWERBALL® payoff has prompted him to change his Lottery playing patterns. “I just had a feeling about playing that day,” Edward Schwanke recalls of his August 11, 2007 ticket purchase. Since winning $10,000 through the Delaware Lottery’s popular POWERBALL® game, the 27-year-old says he’s started playing the game once or twice a week.

“I wish I had won the jackpot, but I’m very grateful for what I got,” Schwanke told Lottery officials. Initially he believed he’d won a larger cash prize because he missed a number during a live television drawing. Schwanke quickly checked the numbers and realized his card was not an exact match – then he nearly threw the ticket away.

“Thank God my friend was there,” he says. Fortunately a friend who frequently plays the Lottery explained that you don’t need a perfect match to win. “It was quite a rollercoaster of emotion,” Schwanke remembers. “Now I know the rules.”

With starting jackpots of $15 million there are several ways to win at POWERBALL®. Players can win by matching five numbers for $200,000 or four numbers plus the red POWERBALL® number for $10,000. The Delaware Lottery reminds players to check their tickets, which are valid up to a year after date of purchase. Schwanke can thank the Lottery’s Quick Pick feature and the BP station located at 3421 Philadelphia Pike for his newfound wealth. The Primo Hoagies employee plans to save some of the earnings and put some towards a new sports car. “Maybe a Lexus IS 300,” he says.

The winner from Bear, DE told Lottery Officials that finding out he had won made it a pretty exciting weekend. “I kept the ticket in my safe at home so my dog wouldn’t eat it,” he laughed. A 53-year-old Newark woman recently became the latest POWERBALL® winner, courtesy of the Delaware Lottery, as she scored $10,000 from the June 6, 2007 drawing. The woman, who works for an insurance company in Wilmington, said she plays regularly, but when she found out that she had won she couldn't believe it.

"When I checked my ticket at the store, all I saw were a lot of zeros," she said. "The only thing that I could think was, 'Oh Lord!'…I couldn't believe it. I was still smiling and shaking two days later."

She added that she didn't have any big plans for her new-found riches, but said she is lucky in that she doesn't have any big bills or debt to pay off. She noted that she'll probably invest a little and just enjoy the rest.

"I've been playing the lottery in Delaware every week since it started up, and I'm just going to have fun with it," said the woman, who is a widowed mother with two teenagers. "Maybe I'll give them some spending money, but believe me; they get enough from me already," she joked.

Golfing Buddies Win $10,000 Powerball Prize

Eleven golfing buddies who are members of the Sakima Country Club in Carney's Point, N.J., are going to have a little more money for lunch on the 19th hole after scoring a $10,000 Powerball win. The winning numbers were drawn on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.

The group mostly hails from New Jersey and Maryland, but it was their lone Delawarean who bought the lucky ticket. Robert Meeks, 67, of Newark has been buying tickets for the group for a little over two years. He said they have won a few smaller prizes in the past, which they decided to just reinvest in tickets. But this time, they decided to cash in.

"I told them we needed to touch a little green on this one," Meeks said. "We're all going to get together and have a little celebration."

Split 11 ways, the men won more than $680 each after taxes.

The ticket was purchased at Books & News on Chestnut Hill Road in Newark.
