Delaware Lottery players must be “nice”, Santa has bought three winners early presents!

Delaware had three $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes won just in time for the holiday season. An 80-year old Wilmington man from Trinidad claimed his $100,000 POWERBALL® prize from the November 27th drawing. His ticket was purchased at the Pathmark store on Sunset Boulevard in New Castle.

On December 1st, a 62-year old resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey bought his winning POWERBALL® ticket at the Village Market on Ridge Road in Claymont, Delaware.

Both men are regular POWERBALL® players and received checks totaling $75,000 each, which represents the $100,000 prize minus federal taxes.

A third winner has yet to claim their POWERBALL® winnings. The winning ticket was sold at the Shore Stop on Stein Highway in Seaford, Delaware for the November 20th drawing.

Printing company employees scoop sixth largest POWERBALL® jackpot

A group of 33 co-workers from a printing company in Seaford, Delaware presented the winning ticket on October 12, 2004, for the October 9th POWERBALL® drawing and claimed the $214.7 million jackpot prize.

The group opted to remain anonymous and has selected the cash single payment value for the jackpot, which totals $116.9 million before federal withholding taxes. The 33 winners will share the prize equally each receiving a payment of $2,657,754, which represents their share of the jackpot after federal withholding taxes.

One of the winning players told officials they checked the Delaware Lottery web site on Sunday morning and realized they had the winning ticket. The jackpot winning ticket was purchased at the Uncle Willies convenience store, 50 S. Market Street, in Blades, Delaware. The October 9th POWERBALL® jackpot was the sixth largest ever awarded and was the second time this year the jackpot reached the $200 million level.

Delaware Lottery rewards Retailer for selling $214.7 million POWERBALL® ticket

8Michelle Lewis, of Seaford, Delaware (pictured at right) who manages the Uncle Willies convenience store in Blades, accepted a check for $10,000 from Barbara Hutchins and Brian Peters of the Delaware Lottery. The check represents the retailer commission for selling the winning October 9th, 2004 POWERBALL® ticket which resulted in a $214.7 million jackpot, claimed by an anonymous group of 33 employees who work for a printing company in Seaford. The October 9th POWERBALL jackpot was the sixth largest ever awarded in the game's history, and was the second time this year the jackpot reached the $200 million level.

Quick pick ticket nets group POWERBALL® prize

A group of 15 coworkers from New Castle, who have been playing POWERBALL® together for the past four years, claimed a $100,000 prize from the September 29, 2004, drawing. The 14 men and one woman shared the prize equally, each receiving a check for $5,000, which represents the $100,000 prize minus federal taxes. “Since we all work different shifts, we just pooled our money and let the machine pick our numbers,” said one lucky player. “It's been a way for us to stay connected, even if we don't all work together at the same time.” Their winning ticket was purchased at Nile Liquor Inc. on Landers Lane in New Castle.

Delaware Lottery heats things up with the TABASCO® HOT CASH second-chance drawing grand prize winners

Sylvia Golden, of Wilmington and William Witt, of Wyoming, Delaware celebrated after winning the TABASCO® Hot Cash drawing for the grand prize Backyard Barbecue Package on September 16, 2004. The Grand Prize package included a stainless steel premiere gas barbecue grill, $500 cash and other TABASCO®-related items. The Delaware Lottery hosted the barbecue event to celebrate the 150 TABASCO® Hot Cash Instant Game second-chance drawing winners. The 150 winners received prize packages including TABASCO® golf shirts, watches, assorted TABASCO® sauces and other TABASCO ® - related items. All of the winners, and their guests, were invited to join the Delaware Lottery for the barbecue held at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover, including a Hot Cash TABASCO® bottle character who helped with the celebration!

$500,000 POWERBALL® Prizewinner Surprised by Win

A Lewes woman made everyone hold a collective breath while her $500,000 POWERBALL® with Power Play® prize went unclaimed from the July 21 2004 drawing. The 46-year-old had no idea that she had the winning ticket. “I took a bunch of my tickets into Atlantic Liquors in Rehoboth Beach, where I faithfully buy my POWERBALL® tickets, to check them,” she said when she came to pick up her prize at the Lottery Office in Dover August 10. “When I found out I won, I was in complete shock. I just kept saying this is unbelievable; this is truly unbelievable.” She plans to continue playing POWERBALL® with Power Play® and will definitely check her tickets more often from now on!

Cookie Creates Small Fortune

Carlos Aquino, who lives right outside of Delaware in Boothwyn, PA, won $25,000 (minus $6,250 in federal taxes) using numbers from a fortune cookie. Aquino plays POWERBALL® with Power Play® faithfully, using the fortune cookie numbers he got when having lunch with some buddies in a Philadelphia Chinatown restaurant. “There are six numbers on the back of each fortune,” the 56-year-old explained. “It's perfect; I use the first five numbers for POWERBALL® and the sixth number for the Power Play®.” Aquino does all his shopping in Delaware and buys his POWERBALL® tickets at the Delaware News Center in Carpenter Plaza on Naamans Road. After this win, Aquino and his buddies may be want to get another round of chop suey with a side of fortune cookies!

$100,000 POWERBALL® Prize Awarded to a Loyal Instant Games Player?

“I mostly play scratch-offs just for the fun of it,” explained a $100,000 POWERBALL® prizewinner from the Maryland area. The excited woman took a chance on POWERBALL® and it paid off. Miriam Barnshaw and her sister, both of Centerville, Maryland, prove that siblings are able to share. The sisters came into the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover, Delaware on July 26, 2004 to claim their $10,000 prize, minus $2,500 in federal taxes, playing INSTANT CASH. The two purchased the winning INSTANT CASH Instant Game ticket, while visiting the Rehoboth Cigarette Outlet in Rehoboth Beach. The sisters play often, and when they win, they always share the prize money with each other. “My sister and I always split our winnings 50/50,” said a very excited Barnshaw. “It's good to be sisters!”

$100,000 POWERBALL® Prize Is A "Dry Run" for Lucky 8

When eight employees of Delaware Industries for the Blind took a trip to the Lottery Office in Dover recently to claim their $100,000 POWERBALL® Prize, they considered it a dry run. As spokesperson Arnetta Watson said, "We'll be back — we're going to win the big one."

The group, which has purchased POWERBALL® tickets together for two years, split a $100,000 prize — minus $25,000 in Federal taxes — from the June 23 drawing. They purchased the winning ticket from Dave's Liquors in New Castle.

The winners have very specific plans for their winnings, including buying a stainless steel refrigerator with an icemaker and water in the door, getting new dentures, carpeting a house and replacing the kitchen floor, putting it in the bank, taking a girlfriend to Atlantic City, going to New Orleans, getting a computer, and giving some to a spouse.

Salisbury House Builder Finds Sascratch, Scores $1,000

Gary Medeicliovich, a 23-year-old framer from Salisbury, MD, won the $1,000 Grand Prize from 93.5 The Beach during the recent “Sascratch Sightings” promotion conducted by the station in conjunction with the Delaware Lottery. As one of 10 listeners to call in with the correct answer to a Sascratch Sighting clue, he won 10 WILD 7'S Instant Game tickets and was automatically entered into the Grand Prize drawing.

“I called in with the answer to the Sascratch clue on Tuesday,” he said. “Then on Friday I was driving across the Route 90 bridge when I heard my name on the radio.” Gary plans to pay bills with his winnings.

Robert Funk Has $25,000 POWER PAY DAY

Robert J Funk Sr. of Rehoboth, DE claimed a $25,000 top prize from the POWER PAYDAY Instant Game on May 3, 2004. There are over $1.6 million in prizes and 20 chances to win on each POWER PAYDAY ticket. In addition to the top prizes of $25,000, there are eight other cash prizes levels in the game, ranging from $10 to $5,000.

Ellendale Man Spells Prize "P-L-A-S-M-A T-V"

Frank Daniels likes crossword puzzles. So naturally the PRIME TIME TV CASHWORDS Instant Game appealed to him. Since winning a new 50" Plasma TV – the Grand Prize in the game's second-chance drawing – he likes them even more.

A driver for Allen Family Foods, Daniels has three daughters and 10 grandchildren. He said he sent in "quite a few" tickets for the second-chance drawing. A regular Lottery player, Daniels buys his PLAY 3 and PLAY 4 tickets and the occasional POWERBALL® or LOTTO ticket at the De-Lux Dairy Market in Ellendale.

Daniels' name was drawn from a pool of 50 first prize winners, all of whom were awarded a DVD player.

Family Scores When Mom Wins $415,000

A 57-year old Newark woman, who decided to buy tickets on the spur of the moment, won the February 13 LOTTO Jackpot. The only winner that night, she's been awarded $311,250–the $415,000 jackpot amount minus $103,750 in federal taxes. 

The woman was buying gas at a station that happened to be next door to Books and News on Chestnut Hill Road in Newark. When she noticed the store was a Delaware Lottery Retailer, she went in to buy a LOTTO ticket. The next morning, she asked her husband for the local section of the paper to check her numbers. When she saw she had matched the first three, her heart started beating really fast. When she saw she had matched all six, she was in shock. In fact, she called four different Retailers to double-check the winning numbers.

A mother of three adult kids, she plans to share the prize with her very lucky children.

Lewes Man Claims $1,125,000 LOTTO Prize

Million-Dollar LOTTO Winner Still in Shock

Sometimes it takes a long time for a big win to sink in…a 68-year-old Lewes man was still in shock when he claimed his million-dollar prize almost a month after the drawing; according to Lottery officials, he kept repeating “I can't believe it” over and over again as he went through the claim process.

He claimed a $1,125,000 LOTTO jackpot from the December 29 drawing and received $843,750 (the total prize minus $281,250 in federal taxes). The winning ticket was purchased at the Shore Stop in Angola. The winner discovered his windfall when he checked his ticket at the store.

He plans to share his prize with his family, but he's not sure whether he'll tell them or not. He's considering putting the money into trust funds for their education.

A Different Reaction to a $415,000 Win

"I hugged the clerks!"

A Wilmington man who claimed a big LOTTO jackpot was so surprised to learn he had won that the only thing he could think to do was to hug the clerks at Avenue Wine & Spirits in Wilmington—so that's what he did. Then he called his mom to tell her about his win.

A government employee, the 31-year-old claimed a $415,000 LOTTO jackpot from the January 21 drawing and received $311,250 (the total prize minus $103,750 in federal taxes). He used the Quick Check in the store to check his tickets, a feature that he really likes.

The winner says his plans for the prize are to “pay off bills, invest and save.” He also said he plans to continue playing Delaware Lottery Games.

A Wilmington woman recently walked away with a $400,000 POWERBALL prize because she selected the PowerPlay option, which ended up quadrupling her $100,000 prize. This is Delaware's largest PowerPlay prize to date.

The 65-year-old retired baker recently stayed up to watch a story on the news. When the station showed the POWERBALL drawing, she thought some of the numbers looked familiar. When it turned out she had won a $100,000 prize for matching all five white numbers, she woke up her husband. “The first thing he said was, ‘I hope you used PowerPlay!' ”

Since she did buy the PowerPlay option, she claimed a $400,000 POWERBALL® prize from the January 21 drawing and received $300,000 (the total prize minus $100,000 in federal taxes). The winner, who bought her ticket at TJ's Food Mart in Wilmington, has always dreamt of going to Australia. With her winnings in hand, she's on her way!
