Greenwood man wins $3,000,000 playing MEGA MILLIONS®
Dover, DE — A 36-year-old driver from Greenwood, who wished to remain anonymous, recently purchased a single MEGA MILLIONS® ticket with the Megaplier option for five games using Quick Pick from Royal Farms #109 in Bridgeville. This spur-of-the-moment stop would soon turn out to be a visit the man will never forget. When he scanned his ticket a few days later, he realized he had matched all five numbers with a 3X MEGAPLIER® for the July 22, 2022 drawing, taking the $1,000,000 prize to a total of $3,000,000 before taxes.
“Congratulations to this lucky player on his momentous, seven-figure win,” said Vernon Kirk, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “This is the largest prize to be claimed in Delaware since 2016. We love to see MEGA MILLIONS® continue to be such a source of excitement, and it’s especially exciting when one of our Draw Game players lands a big win like this one.”
The man, who said he has been playing Delaware Lottery Draw Games once a week for years, usually plays MULTI-WIN LOTTO®. “I was just showing my wife how easy it is to use the self-service kiosk,” the man said. “We saw how big the jackpot was for MEGA MILLIONS® and decided to give it a try. Why not, right? I’ve won $500 and $600 prizes from MULTI-WIN LOTTO® before, but I never expected anything like this.”
The man said his first reaction to the win was one of utter disbelief. “I had kind of forgotten about the ticket,” the man said. “When I finally scanned it, I thought there had to be a mistake. I checked with the cashier, and sure enough, it really was a $3,000,000 winner. I still can’t believe it.”
When asked what he plans to do with his winnings, the man said he intends to pay off his mortgage. “My wife and I are thrilled about it. Retirement definitely just got a little closer,” the man added.
The winning numbers from the July 22, 2022 drawing were 14, 40, 60, 64 and 66. The MEGABALL® number was 16 and the MEGAPLIER® number was 3X.
MEGA MILLIONS® drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 PM EST. The current estimated annuity jackpot stands at $810 million dollars, and the lucky winning ticket is still out there waiting to be found. MEGA MILLIONS® costs $2 per game. MEGA MILLIONS® with Megaplier® costs $3 per game.
