Newark co-workers share $1,000,000 MEGA MILLIONS® win
Dover, DE — eventeen co-workers at a manufacturing facility in Newark recently pooled their funds to purchase five MEGA MILLIONS® tickets for five games apiece using Quick Pick from Shop Rite of Four Seasons in Newark. The co-workers—a mixture of Delaware residents and out-of-state commuters—were completely shocked when one of those tickets matched all five numbers for the May 18, 2021 drawing, winning the group $1,000,000.
“We’re happy to see MEGA MILLIONS® be such a source of fun and excitement for the people who live and work in Delaware,” said Vernon Kirk, Director of the Delaware Lottery. “It’s especially exciting when all of that fun leads to a momentous win like this one. Congratulations to all seventeen lucky winners.”
The co-workers started purchasing Draw Games as a group five years ago. They enjoy the comradery of playing together and have won a few prizes in the past, but the group couldn’t believe it when their MEGA MILLIONS® ticket turned out to be a $1,000,000 winner.
When a few of the co-workers checked the winning numbers for the May 18, 2021 drawing, they immediately texted the rest of the group in disbelief. As the reality of their big win began to set it, excitement quickly grew. Soon, all seventeen co-workers were calling and texting one another, sharing the thrill of their $1,000,000 MEGA MILLIONS® win and making plans to celebrate together.
The group intends to continue the tradition of playing Draw Games together and will be playing MEGA MILLIONS® once again this week in the hopes of hitting the jackpot.
When asked what they were planning to do with their winnings, the group’s intentions included paying off bills, investing, giving gifts to their families and donating to charity.
The winning numbers from the May 18, 2021 drawing were 03, 05, 56, 61 and 66. The MEGABALL® number was 04 and the MEGAPLIER® number was 2X.
The winners claimed their prize from Lottery Headquarters on May 21, 2021.
