Newark Man Wins $1,000,000 on MEGA MILLIONS® Quick Pick
(DOVER, Del.) — A 56-year-old Newark man started his weekend off by winning $1,000,000 before taxes in the April 20th MEGA MILLIONS® drawing. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, won by matching five white balls and will take home $760,000 after taxes.
The man, who has been playing the Delaware Lottery since the 1990s, also bought one POWERBALL® ticket and one PLAY 3 ticket. He explained that he likes to mix it up and play a variety of games but always uses Quick Pick. When the man scanned his ticket after the drawing, he was completely overwhelmed and in shock.
“I thought it was a mistake. I didn’t believe it and had to double and triple check the ticket,” the man said about learning he had won. He immediately called his mother who told him, “Stop teasing me.” He then went to his mother’s house to show her the winning ticket.
When asked what he planned on doing with his winnings, the man said, “Pay off some debt and go on vacation.” Still overwhelmed by the win, he also added, “I want to stay humble…I don’t want it to go to my head.”
The man purchased the winning ticket at Skyway One in Newark, DE and claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters on April 25, 2018.
