POWERBALL® Power Play Doubles Pennsylvania Man’s Prize to $100,000
(DOVER, DE) — A 51-year-old man from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, who works as an operator, started the Memorial Day weekend with a $100,000 POWERBALL® win in the May 24 drawing. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, won $50,000 after correctly matching four of the five white-ball numbers plus the POWERBALL®. The man multiplied his $50,000 prize by two through the $1 Power Play option. The married man purchased the ticket at Sunoco A-Plus in Claymont, Delaware.
“I mostly buy my tickets from Sunoco A-Plus because it’s on my way home from work,” said the winner. “When I was in the store to check the ticket, I couldn’t believe all of the zeroes I saw after I scanned it. I even had the clerk double-check the ticket to make sure it was a winner!”
The winner told Lottery officials that he was very calm when he found out he was a winner—but very excited on the inside. The man has been playing the Lottery for at least 10 years and likes to play for the “big win.” He plays POWERBALL® and MEGA MILLIONS®, and always pays the extra dollar for the Power Play and Megaplier.
Though the winner likes to pick his own numbers, there is no significance to those numbers. This is the winner’s largest win to date. He previously won smaller amounts playing the Delaware Lottery’s PLAY 3 and PLAY 4 games from the Sunoco A-Plus.
The winner plans to give his kids some of the money, buy a new heating unit for his house and put the rest in the bank. While this win won’t drastically change his life, he is thrilled that he has some money to fall back on, if needed.
The winning numbers from the May 24 drawing were 28, 32, 33, 38 and 62. The POWERBALL® number was 15, and the Power Play number was 2x.
The winner claimed his prize at Delaware Lottery Headquarters on Friday, May 26.
