MEGA MILLIONS® $344 Million Jackpot Is 4th Largest In Game History;
The Delaware Lottery Asks Players To Play Responsibly And Play Within Their Means
Dover, DE - December 10, 2013 - MEGA MILLIONS® jackpot has reached an estimated $344 million and is the largest annuity jackpot for the game so far this year, and the 4th largest jackpot in the game’s history. Previously, the game reached a record-breaking status of $656 million last March (2012). If the $344 million MEGA MILLIONS jackpot is won, one lucky player could take home a cash prize of $184 million. With excitement building toward tonight’s drawing, the Delaware Lottery is asking players to please play responsibly by playing within their means and only spending what is personally affordable.
“At the Delaware Lottery, we recognize the thrill and anticipation of a big win that large jackpots can bring and we want everyone to enjoy playing Lottery games, but to do so responsibly,” said Delaware Lottery Director, Vernon Kirk. “It’s the holiday season and many of our players choose to give Lottery games as gifts. We ask them to keep personal budgets in mind when purchasing tickets and to play within their limits.”
The MEGA MILLIONS jackpot has been steadily increasing since it was last won on October 1. The jackpot was raised from $297 million to $344 million after no winners matched all six numbers correctly to hit the jackpot for the drawing that took place on Friday, December 6. However, four tickets from Friday’s drawing worth $1 million each were sold in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Washington. The lucky winning numbers were 11, 29, 44, 63 and 64, with a MEGA BALL of 3. The next drawing will take place tonight at 11:00 PM and players can purchase tickets up until 9:45 PM.
In October of this year, MEGA MILLIONS was enhanced to offer bigger, faster-growing jackpots, and better overall odds of winning a prize. The game now features a $15 million starting jackpot and the overall odds of winning any MEGA MILLIONS prize improved from 1 in 40 to 1 in 14.71, allowing for an estimated three times as many winners. Additionally, jackpots grow more quickly, increasing by at least $5 million in drawings where there are no tickets matching all six numbers. The new MEGA MILLIONS also includes a 5X Megaplier® in addition to existing the 2X, 3X, and 4X levels for the chance to win up to $5 million.
