POWERBALL® JACKPOT REACHES $245 MILLION
FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22 DRAWING
Dover, DE -- The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) has announced that the POWERBALL® jackpot for the Wednesday, August 22, 2007 drawing has been increased to $245 million, or a cash value of $114.7 million. Wednesday's jackpot of $245 million is the 8th largest in the history of POWERBALL® and only the fourth jackpot awarded this calendar year over $100 million if it is hit in this drawing. This POWERBALL® run began June 30, 2007, and has been the second biggest jackpot in the past 12 months.
With all of the excitement of a pending record jackpot for POWERBALL®, Delaware Lottery Officials remind players to play responsibly. Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons urges players not to spend more than they can afford. "I'd like to remind players that it only takes one ticket to win," he said.
Among the action of the current POWERBALL® run, the Delaware Lottery had a winning couple from Lincoln, Del claim a $200,000 prize from the Wednesday, August 15, 2007 POWERBALL® drawing. The wife claimed the prize on August 17, 2007 after finding out she and her husband, who is in the military, had won the night before.
The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, were awarded a check for $150,000
which represents the $200,000 prize minus federal taxes. The couple could
hardly believe they had won, and in the excitement the husband almost
burned the ticket while in the kitchen. "He was taking a pizza out
of the oven, and still had the ticket in his hand," said the wife.
"The corner of the ticket almost got burnt
we were scared for
a minute that the numbers were ruined."
The winning ticket was purchased from Shore Stop - Little Heaven located
at 7865 Bay Road, Frederica, Del.
