2006 Press Releases
June 19, 2006It's Summer and the Delaware Lottery is Heating Up
Dover, DE -- The first few unofficial
weeks of summer have produced four big instant winners with
the Delaware Lottery. Within one week, two $20,000 jackpots
and two $10,000 prizes have been awarded to lucky lottery
players.
On June 7, a 60-year-old Newark, Del. resident won the $20,000
grand prize for the $10 10-Times the Money instant win game.
He purchased the winning ticket at Glasgow Farm in Newark.
Retired and single, this lucky winner recently started playing
the lottery for entertainment, but never dreamed it would
pay off so big.
"I don't really have any big plans for it yet,"
he said. "I'll probably just put it in the bank and save
it for a rainy day."
Then, on June 14, a 49-year-old woman from Milford scored
another $20,000 grand prize jackpot from a $10 Red Hot Cash
ticket purchased at the Chicken Man in Milford. The woman
couldn't believe her luck when she realized she had won, initially
thinking she had only won $20.
"I'm always pretty lucky," she said. "I saw
that ticket in the counter and just thought it was good luck.
I guess I was right."
She said that she plays for entertainment, but only when she
gets a certain lucky feeling. Now that that lucky feeling
came through in a big way, she just plans on having a little
fun.
"I'll probably save most of it," she said. "But
today, I'm just going to have some fun."
Two Pennsylvania women also claimed large prizes last week.
A winner from Shamokin hit it big when she claimed the grand
prize for the $5 Delaware Riches game and won $10,000 on Friday
June 9. A 75-year-old widow, she said she likes to buy a ticket
each week, when shopping at Penn Mart Shopping Center in New
Castle. She is looking into buying a new car with her prize.
Finally, Kathy Shaw, 45, of Honey Brook, Pa., claimed a $10,000
prize after playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker, a $5 ticket. The
game card was purchased at the Tobacco Field in Wilmington.
A mother of four grown children, Kathy heads to Delaware every
couple weeks for the tax free shopping. On her most recent
trip, she purchased four instant game tickets. Minutes later,
she realized that one of those tickets was a big winner.
"We need a new roof, so the money couldn't have come
at a better time," she added.
