2003 Press Releases
March 24, 2003WINNING TICKET SOLD FOR THE MARCH 21 $5,005,000 LOTTO JACKPOT
Dover, DE -- One lucky winner, who has
not yet claimed his or her prize, has won the $5,005,000 record-level
jackpot for the March 21, 2003, LOTTO drawing. The winning ticket
was purchased at Valentina Liquors in Newark. The winner will receive
$3,603,600 after taxes.
Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons said, "Because we live
in a small state, it's very exciting when a Delaware player has
the opportunity to win a prize of this magnitude. However, I advise
the winner to seek legal and tax advice before claiming his or her
prize. There is no need to rush to the Lottery Office, since players
have a year from the ticket purchase date to claim their prizes."
The March 21, 2003, LOTTO jackpot prize is the largest jackpot awarded
in the game since its start in 1983. The largest cash jackpot prior
to this jackpot, worth $2.275 million, was won in January 2000.
The previous LOTTO jackpot record—for an annuity with the
prize money paid in yearly installments—was set by a $3 million
annuity jackpot won in February 1992.
The LOTTO jackpot for tonight’s drawing is worth $250,000.
Tickets for LOTTO cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery
Retailers.
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has
contributed more than 1.4 billion to the state's General Fund to
help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.
The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, LOTTO, PLAY
3, PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games. More information is available
