November 22, 2002NEWARK MAN WINS HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE
DOVER, DE -- Forty-four-year-old Mark
Shaw of Newark claimed the grand prize in the Delaware Lottery HARLEY-DAVIDSON
Instant Game at a special drawing event held yesterday (November
21) at Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson in New Castle.
Shaw will receive a 100th Anniversary Harley-Davidson* Sportster*
1200 Custom motorcycle specially developed to celebrate Harley-Davidson's
centennial. He was among 61 (out of 67) second-chance winners present
for the drawing.
Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons, who was present for the
event, said that it is always gratifying to be there when a player
finds out they've won. "We work hard to create products that
provide fun and excitement for players, and its certainly a nice
perk of this job to get to share in that winning moment. The Delaware
Lottery offers its congratulations to Mr. Shaw."
An electrician with Battaglia Electric, Shaw had a feeling he was
going to win the motorcycle - even though he doesn't ride. "After
I scratched my ticket, I flipped it over and saw that there was
a second-chance drawing. That's when I told my wife I was going
to win," he said. He sent about 20 tickets in for the drawing.
Shaw buys his Delaware Lottery tickets "all over" and
said he's "won a couple of bucks here and there - but nothing
like this." He plays POWERBALL regularly and plans to continue
playing Delaware Lottery Games.
Sixty-seven second chance winners - individuals whose tickets were
drawn on October 30 at the Lottery Office - were invited with a
guest to the drawing. Each received a prize package featuring official
Harley-Davidson licensed products: telephone, wristwatch, blanket,
automobile mats, leather cap, t-shirt and playing cards.
The HARLEY-DAVIDSON Instant Game went on sale at more than 450 Delaware
Lottery Retailers in June and is scheduled to close January 1, 2003.
The two motorcycle instant prizes in the game remain unclaimed.
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has
contributed more than $1.4 billion to the state's General Fund to
help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.
The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, LOTTO, PLAY
3 and PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
