NEW POWERBALL® CAMPAIGN FEATURING RAY CHARLES
SET TO DEBUT IN DELAWARE
DOVER, DE - Living legend Ray Charles is joining forces with
the Delaware Lottery and 14 other POWERBALL® member lotteries
to promote the popular POWERBALL® game.
Ray Charles, winner of 13 Grammy Awards (including a Lifetime
Achievement Award) and a member of numerous music halls of fame,
stars in new television and radio spots promoting POWERBALL®
as "America's Game." The campaign was developed to increase
awareness of POWERBALL® among players and to encourage trial
by non-players.
"We are excited to feature an American icon like Ray Charles,"
said Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons. "When players
see these high-energy spots, they'll feel the fun and excitement
of playing POWERBALL®."
The Ray Charles POWERBALL® campaign consists of two television
and radio spots in rhythm and blues and jazz formats that were
customized for the Delaware Lottery to promote POWERBALL®.
The radio spots began running on local radio stations in December.
The television spots will run January 14 through January 27 and
April 8 through April 21 on cable TV and WBOC-TV.
The 14 other lotteries that join Delaware in launching the Ray
Charles POWERBALL® campaign are: Colorado, Connecticut, District
of Columbia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, New
Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota and
West Virginia. Each lottery will be introducing the television
and radio spots between now and Spring 2002.
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has
contributed more than $1.1 billion to the state's General Fund
to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in
Delaware. The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®,
LOTTO, Rolldown®, Play 3 and Play 4, and assorted Instant
Games.
