REHOBOTH BEACH VACATIONERS CLAIM $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

DOVER, DE -  Three women from Pennsylvania claimed a July 28, 2001, POWERBALL® $100,000 prize this afternoon at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, split their $100,000 prize equally and each received $24,166.67 after taxes.

The women, who were on vacation in Rehoboth Beach, purchased their POWERBALL® ticket at Super Wines and Spirits in Rehoboth the day before the drawing. Their winning Quick Pick ticket matched five of six winning numbers.

"We found out we won when we had our ticket checked at Super Wines and Spirits," the winners said. "Actually we were checking our ticket against the All Cash Lotto winning numbers at first, and then the Retailer checked the ticket and told us we were a $100,000 winner in the POWERBALL® game!   We were definitely surprised." The three women don't have any plans for their prize money yet.

The winners told Lottery Officials they vacation in Rehoboth Beach each summer and always play Delaware Lottery games. "You can be sure we'll definitely be back next summer to play again," they said.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, August 1, 2001, has an estimated annuity value of $58 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.
