NEWARK WOMAN CLAIMS $10,000 IN JAN. 5 LUCKY DATE DRAWING
DOVER, Del. - A 43-year-old Newark woman claimed a $10,000 prize for the Wednesday, January 5, Lucky Date drawing, yesterday morning at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. Her winning ticket had the date that matched the date drawn-month, day and year-to win $10,000. The date drawn was Nov. 09, '56.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, received a check for $7,200, which represents her $10,000 prize minus $2,800 for federal taxes. She purchased her winning Lucky Date ticket at Country Tobacco in Liberty Plaza in Newark, selecting numbers based on her birthdate. "I found out that I had won when I called the Lottery toll-free number this morning. I hung up and immediately called back to hear the winning lucky date one more time," she said. "I was so excited that I drove directly to the retailer where I purchased the ticket and asked them to check it. They put the ticket through the terminal which printed out a ticket informing me that the ticket was a $10,000 winner. With that in hand, I drove to my husband's place of employment and showed him the ticket!"
When asked what she will do with the prize money, she told Lottery officials, "I plan to save it." When asked if she plans to continue playing Lottery games, she replied, "Oh, yeah!"
Lucky Date tickets cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-line Retailers. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. There have been 11 $10,000 winners since the Lucky Date game started October 11, 1999.
