DOVER, DE - A 65-year-old retired man from southern Delaware claimed an April 18, 2001, POWERBALL® $100,000 prize on Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was awarded $72,000, which represents his $100,000 prize minus $28,000 for federal tax.

He purchased his POWERBALL® ticket at Royal Farms in Fenwick Island on the Monday, April 16, before the drawing. His winning Quick Pick ticket matched five of six winning numbers.

"My wife found out we won when she checked the winning numbers this morning," the man explained. "She was in such shock that we had won, she checked the ticket three times!" He and his wife plan to use the prize money for several things, including a vacation.

The winner told Lottery Officials he's been playing POWERBALL® for the past 10 years and plans to continue playing Delaware Lottery games.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, April 25, 2001, has an estimated annuity value of $14 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.
