Players enjoy limited-time campaign that turns non-winning tickets into cash

Dover, DE -- Delaware Lottery players around the state have caught the fever for HOT LOTTO®, and with good reason. Since the game's debut in late January, 128,598 winners have taken home $850,104. The heat wave of winnings will continue through the fall, because beginning today players have a second chance to win with their HOT LOTTO® tickets. From Sept. 15 to Oct. 31 players who submit non-winning tickets to the Delaware Lottery will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a total of $10,000 cash in prizes.

"This promotion gives Delaware Lottery players a second way to win big and enjoy HOT LOTTO®," said Wayne Lemons, Delaware Lottery Director. "If they haven't experienced the game before we're sure they'll find it both exciting and easy to play."

The prize tier for the limited-time promotion is as follows:

• Grand Prize $5,000
• First Prize $2,500

So far at least five lucky players have landed prizes of $10,000 or more by playing the game. Recent HOT LOTTO® winners include:
A 42-year-old Camden resident who purchased her winning tickets in the Sure Stop where she works,
A 49-year-old woman from New Castle who plans to use her $30,000 prize to pay for medical bills related to a lung transplant,
And a Pennsylvania woman who plans to split her $30,000 prize with two coworkers who were partly responsible for her big pay day.

"Delaware, like many smaller states, has a demand for a Lotto game on par with the jackpots offered by larger state lotteries," said Lemons. "We've heard the call for a game with larger top-prizes than Multi-Win Lotto and better odds than Powerball® and HOT LOTTO® is filling this niche quite nicely for players."

While similar to Powerball® and Multi-Win Lotto, HOT LOTTO® players select five white ball numbers from 1 to 39 and one orange Hot Ball number from 1 to 19. A $1 Sizzler® option (like the Powerball® Power Play) gives gamers a chance to automatically triple lower-tier prizes.

Odds of winning the HOT LOTTO® jackpot are one in nearly 11 million, while the odds of winning the top Powerball® prize are one in 146 million. Drawings for the multi-state game are held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Players can purchase a multi-draw ticket for up to 10 draws at a time. Jackpots begin at an estimated annuity of $1 million and increase by at least $50,000 per drawing until a winning number is drawn.
