Wednesday’s POWERBALL® Jackpot Reaches New Record — $1.4 Billion

The Delaware Lottery Encourages the Community to Play Responsibly

(DOVER, DE) — With no POWERBALL® jackpot winner from the Saturday, January 9, drawing, the jackpot has reached an estimated annuity of $1.4 billion—a new world record for any Lottery jackpot game that can be won with a single ticket, according to Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) officials.

If the $1.4 billion jackpot is won this Wednesday, the winner could opt for a cash option payout of $868 million. This is the 20th drawing since the most recent POWERBALL® grand prize winner on November 4, 2015.

“With a jackpot of this magnitude, we strongly encourage players to spend only what they can personally afford,” said Vernon Kirk, Director, Delaware Lottery. “A good idea to play responsibly is to join a pool with friends or coworkers.”

The winning numbers from Saturday’s drawing were 16, 19, 32, 34 and 57. The POWERBALL® number was 13 and the Power Play® number was 3. Although the jackpot remains, more than 18 million players won more than $159.1 million in cash prizes. The overall odds of winning a POWERBALL® jackpot prize are 1 in 292 million and the odds of winning any POWERBALL® prize are 1 in 25. In the past year on a national level, POWERBALL® has produced 316 second-tier winners of $1 million or $2 million.

“It’s an exciting time for lotteries across the country as a jackpot of this size can generate substantial revenue for state services,” Kirk added.

Saturday’s drawing generated approximately $372 million for the various beneficiaries supported by Lottery revenue.

Wednesday’s POWERBALL® drawing will be broadcast live from Tallahassee, Florida at 10:59 PM Eastern Time. Tickets sell for $2 per game; the Power Play® option POWERBALL® costs $3 per game.
